Job description

Salary: circa £80K per annum

Contract: Permanent, full time hours. We are a flexible employer and welcome candidates wishing to work flexibly.

Location: Our office is in Oxford, with flexible home-working arrangements in place. A minimum average of 1 day a week in the office (ideally significantly more).

Global Canopy, the data-driven organisation targeting the market forces destroying nature, is seeking a highly experienced, senior fundraising leader to lead their Development team, drive innovative approaches for fundraising excellence and contribute to overseeing our earned income growth.

Global Canopy is an ambitious, creative and dynamic not-for-profit with a special focus on ending global deforestation, most of which is driven by agricultural expansion for commodities such as beef, soy and palm oil that end up in products we all use every day.  Their research shows that $6 trillion in private finance each year is driving this destruction, as well being responsible for climate change, biodiversity loss and human rights abuses. To tackle this, Global Canopy deliver radical transparency through their award-winning data platforms, detailing how consumer markets are linked to nature loss and enabling major companies, investors and governments to take positive action.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an organisation that is experiencing transformative growth and is at the heart of global efforts to tackle the intertwined climate and nature crises. Over the last few years, Global Canopy’s income has grown significantly to more than £6 million.

The role will be responsible for taking a holistic view over all restricted and unrestricted income streams, including institutional, trusts and foundations and individual grants and donations, as well as a managing a select portfolio of the charity’s most important funders. The post will also play a key role in building on new opportunities for earned income from the charity’s  data tools. The Director of Income will sit on the Senior Leadership team, contributing to future strategy and overall business planning.

The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, with experience of working at a senior/director level in a complex, international organisation within the not-for-profit sector, and proven success prospecting for, securing and stewarding major six and seven figure grants. They will also have a track record in engaging with and securing funding from institutional donors – or equivalent income generation experience in another sector - as well as experience of securing funding from international sources. Global Canopy are seeking a strategic and creative thinker who is a natural collaborator, able to create buy-in through influence and persuasion and with excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Finally, candidates will have knowledge of the environmental space that Global Canopy operates in.
