Role Overview
Joining a dynamic and passionate Board, the ideal candidate will provide expert oversight, guidance, and support for the Charity’s strategic objectives and as Chair of the People & Remuneration Committee, work closely with senior leadership on current and future strategic People (HR) matters.
Key responsibilities
- Provide Board level oversight, support and challenge of Migrant Help’s strategic objective of being a ‘Great Place to Work’
- Contribute constructively to the charity’s strategic plans, progress and decision making
- Chair the People & Remuneration Committee effectively, developing the meeting agenda with the People & Culture Director
- Lead on people matters at Board meetings in relation to the charity and its trading subsidiary Migrant Help Trading Limited (MHTL).
- Work in partnership with the CEO and Senior Leadership Team
- Oversee the governance of People (HR) Risk
- Provide input on organisational policies in line with best practice and employment legislation
- Act as an ambassador for the charity to external bodies, corporate partners and major donors
- Trustees share collective responsibility for the charity’s governance, ensuring the charity’s mission is achieved and its operations are effective. Trustees support the CEO by contributing to strategic planning, offering expertise, and working together to provide the necessary oversight and direction for the charity’s growth and success.

Mandatory Training Requirement
The Safeguarding Trustee must complete trustee governance and safeguarding training within the first three months of appointment. Additional training will follow as needed.
Terms of Appointment
- Trustees serve an initial three-year term, with the option for renewal up to a maximum of a second term of three years.

The Trans Learning Partnership (TLP) is in the process of evolving into a new, independent charity: the Trans Research Partnership (TRP). This transition will be completed by the end of 2025.

The Volunteer Co-ordinators role requires proactive and detail orientated individuals with an organised approach and an interest in supporting small charities. The Volunteer Co-ordinators are responsible for the volunteer aspects of Burning Nights CRPS Support to ensure the smooth running of the charity’s services and ensuring that the volunteers are used optimally.

We aim to provide our volunteers with a positive experience. This is by prioritising accessibility and tailoring the support we provide to the needs of the individual. We make sure our policies and processes are equitable, which means that no-one is unfairly disadvantaged while volunteering because of their background or identity.
Your skills and experience
We are looking for someone with excellent communication and listening skills who has a creative and engaging approach to telling stories. We’d like you to have experience with writing. This can be through work, volunteering or as a hobby. It’s also important you have accurate spelling and grammar and are confident with using IT. If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!
Supporting you
- You will be provided with an induction into your role, access to relevant learning and a copy of our volunteer handbook.
- The role, including learning and communications, are flexible, so can be tailored so they best suit your needs and preferences.
- You will be able to claim reasonable volunteering expenses in line with Shelter’s volunteer policy. Where financial circumstances would be a barrier to volunteering, we may be able to offer these funds in advance.
- You will be able to access our volunteer support package, including our colleague assistance programme and Shelter’s network of mental health first aiders.

Patient Lead
Location: Primarily remote, with occasional travel to London for meetings and ad hoc around the UK as required

Role Summary
Our client is seeking an enthusiastic and committed individual to serve as Patient Lead. This voluntary leadership role is central to ensuring that the patient voice is embedded in all aspects of their work. The Patient Lead will represent patients on their Board, chair the Patient and Public Engagement Network (PPEN), and guide the team of patient representatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Represent the patient voice at their Board and Executive meetings.
- Chair and lead the Patient and Public Engagement Network (PPEN).
- Develop and deliver the PPEN’s programme of work, focused on improving outcomes for surgical patients before, during, and after surgery.
- Collaborate and build relationships with a diverse range of clinical and non-clinical stakeholders to influence perioperative care policy and practice.
- Champion the views and experiences of underrepresented and marginalised patient groups, ensuring their voices inform perioperative care policy and practice.
- Contribute to strategic planning and decision-making from a patient perspective.
- Participate in bi-weekly virtual leadership meetings and quarterly in-person or virtual board and executive meetings.
- Inspire, support and mentor the patient representatives.
- Contribute to their communications (e.g. blogs, presentations, articles, interviews).
- Represent our client and patient views at national forums, conferences, and external working groups.
About Our Client
Our client is a national, multidisciplinary initiative, established in 2019. They bring together healthcare professionals, national organisations, and patients to improve perioperative care – the integrated, holistic care of patients from the moment surgery is contemplated through to full recovery. They are a collaboration of 11 key partner organisations, which together form their Board.
At its core, they are driven by the belief that patients must be partners in shaping their care. The Patient Lead plays a pivotal role in embedding this ethos across all their activities.
