As Public Fundraising Manager (Community & Challenge Events), you’ll play a key role in growing our public fundraising programme - leading flagship events such as the London Marathon and Gameathon, developing creative campaigns, and building meaningful relationships with supporters, schools and families. You’ll be part of a passionate, supportive team, working collaboratively across the charity to turn generosity into magical wishes for children and young people across the UK.

Our Sunflower Appeal launched in June 2025 and aims to raise £5million by 2029 to open a new cancer centre at the Princess Royal Hospital, Telford. This will double chemotherapy capacity in the region, as well as adding outpatient clinics and diagnostic facilities for the first time in Telford. This is our biggest appeal to date, and we need to make sure that our fundraising team is robust and able to rise to this challenge.
We’re looking for people to support our amazing community of fundraisers and donors in the following areas:
- Corporate- we work with business from around our region, building long-term charity partnerships, engaging them in supporting events, and involving their teams in volunteering opportunities. One of our new team members will help us build on our programme of corporate engagement, looking across the region to identify and engage new supporters, as well as working closely with our existing friends in the business community. This role can be based at either our Shrewsbury or Telford office.
- Community- Community fundraising is at the heart of our charity, and we are constantly amazed by the commitment and creativity of our supporters across the region. We are looking for another member of our team to support community fundraising and make sure our community have a brilliant experience with us. This role will have a specific focus on building our support in Telford & Wrekin and will be based primarily in our Telford office.
Our Fundraisers need to be able to build successful relationships and will be motivated to make a real difference to their local community through their fundraising efforts. They will be confident, engaging and able to communicate our message to a wide range of people. They will be resourceful and able to identify opportunities, getting people involved in a way that suits them, and adds real value to our cause.
We are looking for the equivalent of two full time people to fill these roles. This could be one person working in each area, but we will consider part time and job shares opportunities for the right candidates.

About the role
We are seeking a Community Fundraising Officer to lead and deliver a small number of high-impact virtual fundraising challenges and supporter-led events each year.
This role exists to generate lumpy, time-bound income spikes through well-executed campaigns.
This is a delivery-focused, commercially minded position suited to someone who is comfortable working with data, managing budgets, and being accountable for results.
Key responsibilities
Virtual fundraising challenges (core responsibility):
- Designing and delivering 3–4 virtual fundraising challenges per year.
- Managing each challenge end-to-end, including campaign concept and structure, participant onboarding and journey, fundraising targets, timelines, delivery, and wrap-up.
- Running private Facebook Groups or similar community spaces during live challenge periods.
- Managing paid incentives and paid social advertising budgets.
- Ensuring challenges are repeatable, scalable, and cost-effective.
Supporter-led and external events
- Coordinating and promoting participation in:
- Run for Charity events
- Overseas challenge events (e.g. treks)
- Peer-to-peer fundraising (e.g. birthday fundraisers or evergreen P2P)
- Acting as the main point of contact for supporters taking part
- Providing clear guidance, materials, and support while keeping delivery light-touch
Income, data & performance
- Owning net income targets for each campaign
- Monitoring and analysing campaign performance
- Tracking: Spend, Cost per lead, Activation rates, Funds raised.
- Reporting clearly on outcomes, learning, and recommendations
- Continuously refining formats to improve performance year-on-year
About you
You will bring:
- Experience in community fundraising, events fundraising, or supporter-led campaigns
- Strong project management skills with the ability to deliver campaigns to deadline
- High-performance mindset with confidence working to clear income targets and demonstrating Return on Investment (ROI)
- Proficiency with digital platforms and tools such as:Meta Ads, FundraiseUp and/or Raisely, Google Analytics.
- Comfort interpreting data and adjusting campaigns based on performance
- The ability to work independently in a fully remote environment
- Alignment with AWIP’s mission and comfort working in a justice-led organisation
Experience delivering virtual fundraising challenges or digitally driven campaigns is highly desirable.

Our Fundraising Assistant will provide key administrative support to the Fundraising Team. Being based primarily at our Shrewsbury office, this person will be a key point of contact for our supporters in the office, and will assist with managing online fundraising platforms, email and phone communications and ensuring fundraising materials are ready and waiting to go out into the community.

Prepare and submit high-quality, evidence-led, and compelling grant proposals in collaboration with the CEO, Director of Finance & Operations, Monitoring & Evaluation Manager, and programme leads.

Coordinate grant management and tracking: maintain accurate records of deadlines, deliverables, and reporting requirements.

Main duties and responsibilities
Individual and Community Fundraising
- Work with the Fundraising and Communications Manager and Communications Coordinator to develop and deliver three - four individual giving appeals at year (digital and offline) to increase income.
- Monitor and analyse appeal performance to inform future activity.
- Support wider donor acquisition, retention, and upgrade strategies through data-led insights.
- Work closely with colleagues in communications and service delivery to create compelling fundraising content and impact stories.
- Act as the main point of contact for community fundraisers and local events, offering guidance, support materials, and encouragement. Work closely with Communications Coordinator where needed.
- Lead on the promotion and recruitment of participants for sponsored challenge events, particularly the Oxford Half Marathon.

- Confidently represent the organisation at community events and manage a pool of volunteer speakers.

Donor Stewardship and Prospect Research
- Ensure all donors are thanked promptly and feel valued and engaged.
- Manage and maintain accurate donor data in Donorfy, producing reports on donor activity and performance.
- Monitor and manage fundraising and donation enquiries through our development@ inbox, responding and referring them as appropriate.
- Research new fundraising prospects and initiatives across individuals, community groups, small trusts, local businesses and other potential supporters. Maintain organised records of prospects and recommendations.
Trusts & Foundations (Small Grants)
- Support the Fundraising and Communications Manager and Trust and Foundations Fundraiser with the small grants pipeline, including prospect research, applications and reporting.
- Work closely with appropriate staff and service coordinators on project budgets, reporting and planning as needed.
Other responsibilities
- Support and oversee fundraising volunteers and interns as required.

Job purpose
This role will underpin the operation of our fundraising and membership programmes, with a mixture of public facing interactions and focused operational, database work.
Our long-standing membership scheme is an integral part of our fundraising at Action for ME, and we are fortunate to have a generous membership base of over 3,000 loyal supporters. You will be the main point of contact for our members, ensuring they feel valued and connected to our work, as well as supporting efforts to increase our current membership.
You will also be responsible for the smooth running of crucial operational processes for our membership, trading and individual giving income streams, both during fundraising campaigns and day to day. Membership
- Be the main point of contact for our members and provide high quality stewardship over the phone, by email and by letter, always ensuring consistent and high-quality communication.

Overview
The Campaigns and Alumni Relations Office (CAR) at the University of Sheffield is dedicated to inspiring alumni (former students) and supporters to make philanthropic gifts, as well as giving their time and expertise. A donation to the University of Sheffield can change lives, from supporting students in financial need to furthering world-leading research.
As part of the Individual Giving team in CAR, this role encourages people to make gifts of up to £10,000 using a data-driven approach and a range of communication and fundraising channels. The Fundraising Officer will also coordinate our community fundraising and in-memory programme to typically raise over £150,000 per year, as well as project managing direct mail, digital appeals and stewardship communications.
Acting as an advocate for philanthropy, you’ll support and motivate volunteer fundraisers and play a significant role in delivering the University’s flagship fundraising event, the Big Walk. You’ll also support the team to deliver fundraising and donor impact communications using a range of channels (email, print, web and video). On an ad-hoc basis you’ll manage our team of scholarship ambassadors to help engage donors, this may include coordinating small telephone fundraising sessions.
This role would suit someone who excels at managing relationships and is confident interacting with donors and fundraisers on a daily basis. The successful candidate will also be a skilled project manager and communicator, able to juggle multiple tasks and think creatively to overcome problems.
