About the role:
Kinship is in our third year of delivering the first national peer support service for kinship carers in England. We are looking for a new Associate Director of Peer Support and Community to build and develop our model and to take the team to the next phase of growth and impact.
Your first priority will be to oversee delivery of the Department for Education national Peer Support Service contract in England. You will lead the development of our hub and spoke model, with an enhanced offer of national resources and support together with a continued focus on on-the-ground support for kinship carers to set up and sustain a network of peer support groups. You will ensure all members of the team have clarity and are empowered to meet new targets and ways of working.
The role will also lead on the strategic development of peer support approaches in Wales (for which we are seeking funding), ensuring innovation and good practice is shared across the nations.
Kinship peer support groups are powerful levers for change in local, regional and national ecosystems. Your team will ensure that every kinship carer in England and Wales has access to a peer support group, or support to set up and create their own. The team will be purposeful about offering developmental support to all kinship peer support groups, including independent groups, ensuring they remain or become sustainable. And that they have resources, training and peer networks to support this.
Reflecting our strategic focus on developing our Kinship Community of more than 10,000 kinship carers across England and Wales, you will lead a new community strategy, co-ordinating the development of opportunities for community connection and community power. This will include taking leadership for developing the Kinship model of community engagement and integrating across all our ‘in person’ and digital services and activities.
You will ensure a collaborative approach with services, alignment with national and local campaigning activity, and work closely with marketing and communications colleagues to support kinship carer reach and engagement with our community offer.
We’re taking an integrated approach to our services, so you’ll collaborate well across teams to ensure that support groups and their leaders have easy access to high quality advice, information and training. The team will need to work closely with colleagues delivering our new training and support contract, funded by the Department for Education.

But there’s a lot more to the Ramblers. Since 1935, we’ve been fighting for the public’s right to enjoy Britain’s landscapes. We do it through campaigning for changes in legislation, opening up green routes in cities, maintaining paths and signposts, saving lost paths … and so much more.
Purpose of Role
The Community Engagement Manager is a pivotal new role in the delivery of our refreshed strategy. Too many of the people who would benefit most from walking outdoors face significant barriers – they are under-represented in the Ramblers and the outdoors community. Ramblers has several projects at different stages of development and delivery to begin to address this, but we are aware there is a considerable body of theory and practice in public and charity sectors on outreach to excluded communities that could help us achieve our goals.
We are looking for a professional with considerable experience in this area who can help us create a common approach to our outreach and engagement work that builds on our existing experience and incorporates wider best practice.
The role
- To bring into the Ramblers expertise and best practice on approaches to community outreach and engagement from across the voluntary and public sectors.
- To establish and deepen relationships with excluded communities, particularly lower IMD communities in existing and future pilot areas.
- To support and advise project leaders within the Ramblers across GB who are engaging a range of excluded groups and audiences including refugees and asylum seekers, global majority communities, lower IMD communities, LGBTQI communities and people who are neurodivergent or have disabilities.
- To collaborate with other project leads working with excluded communities within the Ramblers, to build consensus about a common approach or toolkit and to help develop, document, and implement this approach.
- To help initiate and support partnerships with other national organisations working with excluded groups, including lower IMD communities – particularly those organisations looking to boost physical activity, involvement in the outdoors or the appreciation of nature.
- To support funder relationships by contributing to bid development and reporting, including for Sport England and the National Lottery Community Fund.
- To support efforts to build wider awareness across staff and volunteers at the Ramblers about what successful outreach and engagement with excluded groups looks like.
- To help raise the Ramblers profile as an organisation that is supporting those who face the greatest barriers to getting outdoors.
- To undertake such other duties as may reasonably be required of the postholder by the Ramblers.
The person
Knowledge and Experience
- Good knowledge of the theoretical underpinnings of outreach/engagement with excluded communities.
- Experience of best practice in the delivery of community outreach/engagement, ideally in a variety of settings including lower IMD neighbourhoods.
- Experience of delivering public health, sport and physical activity, or nature-connectedness programmes in partnership with local communities and organisations.
- Experience of working with the voluntary sector, volunteers and ideally membership organisations.
- Experience of assessing and managing risk in relation to physical activities, or a willingness to learn.
Skills and Leadership
- Experience of working with others in a leadership or co-ordination role to develop and implement new ways of working.

About Pancreatic Cancer Action:
Pancreatic Cancer Action (PCA) was founded in 2010 by a rare survivor of the disease. We are a small, creative and passionate team committed to improving early diagnosis and saving lives. In August 2020, Pancreatic Cancer Action merged with Pancreatic Cancer Scotland making our team stronger than ever.
Pancreatic cancer has only a 7% survival rate and this figure has not improved significantly for over 50 years. Despite it being the 5th biggest cancer killer in the UK, pancreatic cancer receives only 3% of overall research funding.
With a strong focus on early diagnosis, it is Pancreatic Cancer Action’s aim to improve survival rates through raising awareness, medical education, improved patient information and by funding research specifically into the early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Simply put, we want more people diagnosed in time for surgery, currently the only potential for a cure.
Main responsibilities:
- Develop and grow the annual programme of fundraising events such as the London Marathon and Great North Run.
- Grow and steward a pipeline of new and existing community and events audiences and fundraising opportunities with a particular focus on England. Ensuring to always maintain the highest quality supporter journey.
- Manage the delivery of the virtual challenge events. Add insight and support the annual Pancreatic Awareness Month Campaign and help to further develop Pyjama’s for Pan Can to new audiences.
- As a senior member of the Income Generation Team you will contribute to robust financial planning, management and reporting of income and expenditure in your own areas of expertise.
- Responsible for the delivery and recruitment into PCA’s Challenge Events programme making sure participants receive exceptional supporter care.
- Develop compelling and engaging third party fundraising materials to inspire supporters to reach their maximum fundraising targets.
- Contribute to the development of automated and integrated supporter journey and engagement plans with the support of the Head of Income Generation to ensure a consistent and efficient supporter experience.

The Director of External Engagement at Girls Not Brides devises and oversees implementation of fundraising, communications, advocacy & campaigns strategy to help realise Girls Not Brides’ vision of a world free of child marriage, where girls and women enjoy equal status to boys and men and can fulfil their potential in every aspect of their lives. Uses leadership skills and extensive experience of global and local fundraising, communications, campaigns and advocacy to support the organisation’s strategic objectives - movement building, influencing and learning - to empower others, opening spaces for voices to be raised, and drive transformational change. Works as part of a globally-dispersed and diverse team, and closely with members, National Partnerships and coalitions. Contributes to the organisational strategy as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE
Strategic planning and organisational leadership
- Lead the implementation of the Secretariat’s communications, advocacy and fundraising strategies which deliver on the vision, mission and goals set out in the Secretariat and Partnership strategies, 2022-25.
- Set out how the team will use creative campaigning tactics, targeted policy and advocacy,impactful communications and fundraisning to help build the movement to end child marriage, influence those with power to make change, and share evidence and learning.
- Contribute to broad organisational leadership and strategic development, as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

- Work with the Communications team to leverage a wide range of communications channels, including media, website, social media, and events to convey the key messages and findings from Girls Not Brides’ work in a way that enables those without power to be heard, and convinces those with power to support positive change for girls.
- Oversee and explore ways of landing Girls Not Brides stories and policy and campaign asks at the local, national, regional and international level in a way that is context specific and impactful. Be creative and unconventional in your use of content and tactics to reach, engage and influence target audiences.
- Lead the communications team in inspiring audiences to support and join the movement to end child marriage and Girls Not Brides, through documenting and showcasing the results of collective action and developing compelling calls to collective action.
- Oversee the work of the communications team to hone and harness the potential of the Girls Not Brides brand, history, and global network to inspire change and increase member engagement.
Effective advocacy
- Oversee and facilitate direct and indirect engagements with policymakers and decision makers at the local, national, regional and global level, as well as those who influence and advise to take action to end child marriage.
- Lead on ensuring strong synergies between advocacy at national, regional and global levels, coordinatoring between advocacy team members in the regions and the global advocacy team.
- Lead global stakeholder engagement including working with relevant UN organisations, sector leaders, and thematic international organisations to ensure that child marriage is reflected in their policies, budgets and programming.
- Lead Girls Not Brides sector integration agenda, maintain strong existing partnerships, and identify new allies to enhance broader sector integration of ending child marriage.
- Support colleagues, National Partnerships and members to develop and use advocacy skills, and monitor, analyse, influence and respond to relevant legislative and policy opportunities at the global, regional and national level.
- Oversee production and dissemination of policy and advocacy content including fact sheets, policy briefs, updates, and position statements.
- Oversee trainings and development programmes for the secretariat and global partnership, including webinars and learning series.
Transformational campaigns
- Grow and strengthen the movement, harness its potential, ensure Girls Not Brides connects, empowers and amplifies diverse groups around the world united behind a shared cause.
- Oversee Girls Not Brides’ work with local groups, activists, girls and their families to use campaigning and engagement to shift socio-cultural attitudes, including among elders and community leaders, about how girls can and should expect to be treated, respected and empowered.
- Work with the Adovocay team to identify and plan for at least four big moments in the year, either at the global, regional or national level where members of the wider movement can come together to collaborate for change, engage young activists, and support and learn from each other.
- Work closely with the Development and Outreach team to support and deploy champions, ambassadors, youth leaders and high-profile influencers to advance the cause of ending child marriage.
Impactful fundraising
- Direct and lead the implementation of Girls Not Brides’ global and regional fundraising strategy for the secretariat and the wider movement, to ensure a diverse and sustainable income portfolio.
- Lead the creation and diversification of a business development plan, targeting new actors such as businesses, high-net-worth individuals, legacies, etc.
- Lead the cultivation and strengthening of donor relationships, alongside the CEO, to bring in new funding and grant renewals, build donors as champions.
- Oversee and ensure long term projection for income, also overseeing pipeline and prospecting and directing the development of concept notes and proposals.

Essential experience
- Significant professional experience in a comparable role at a senior level in the not-for-profit sector, international/intergovernmental organisation or social enterprise.
- Degree-level qualification in a relevant area such as public policy, development studies, international relations, communications, human rights or gender issues or proven experience in a related field plus extensive relevant professional training.
- Proven experience of working with coalitions and the ability to inform international policy discussions with the realities of grass-roots work.

We are looking for an experienced Operations Manager to cover parental leave.
The successful candidate will have accountability for several key areas of operational delivery of BITC’s programmes across England, Scotland and Wales. This role will ensure the high quality and consistency of performance through these aspects of operational delivery and development, working closely with businesses, internal stakeholders and external partners. This role is responsible for leading and managing a high-performing team, delivering programmes and contractual obligations across their patch. The post holder will lead on driving programme/contractual performance (both KPI’s and financial) motivating and inspiring the team. They will also have responsibility for ensuring continued funding from key partners and securing new income; monitoring and reporting on this important activity as it contributes to BITC's vision within a set geographical area or programme/project areas.
