We are looking to recruit an Activities Organiser for the Guernsey Group. As our local group Activities Organiser you’ll play a crucial role in developing and planning activities and events with your local group. You’ll be responsible for creating and coordinating an annual calendar of events and making sure they’re run safely and effectively to make the most impact. You’ll take a lead role at events on the day and inspire your fellow volunteers to get involved.

In this role you’ll be able to develop your organisation, communication, administration and negotiation skills. 

Time commitment

We estimate this role will need around 2 hours a week. Our roles are flexible and aim to fit around you. Time commitments for this role may vary depending on your activities. This is an ongoing role.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.

Trustees play a vital role in ensuring Brent Foodbank meets its core purpose by overseeing the management and administration of the charity and ensuring that the foodbank has a clear strategy in line with our vision and goals.

What will you be doing?

The role involves acting as a charity trustee to set the strategic direction for the foodbank.  Providing good governance, ensuring that the foodbank meets its objectives and fulfils its charitable purpose.  Ensuring the foodbank operates within its budget and in compliance with its charity, legal and operational goals.

Key tasks

Key Responsibilities along with the board of trustees include:

• to approve, support, and guide the charity’s purpose, vision, strategy, goals and objectives
• to manage the charity’s resources responsibly, including ensuring the charity’s assets are used only to carry out its purpose, avoid undue risk, and not over-commit the charity
• to ensure the effective and efficient administration of the charity, responding to changes in the local community as appropriate to ensure that key risks are identified, monitored, and controlled appropriately
• to ensure appropriate financial plans are in place, budgets are monitored, and progress is evaluated
• to review and approve financial statements
• to help promote the organisation to key stakeholders and beneficiaries
• to ensure the charity has appropriate procedures to comply with current legislation and good practice, including employment, health and safety, equity, diversity and inclusion, safeguarding, and GDPR compliance/data protection
• to prepare for and regularly attend and participate in board and sub-committee meetings and any Trustee away days.

As Volunteer Activity Lead, you will provide support to people seeking asylum who live in Wakefield through delivering activities that support people’s wellbeing and integration.

We provide support to people seeking asylum in Wakefield while their asylum claims are being considered. Being new to communities, our clients need additional help to reduce isolation and help develop their confidence. We do that by organising activities that keep them busy, engaged and connected with locally available services. Your role is to lead on activity planning and delivery – you will encourage clients to come, design posters, help foster a friendly and non-judgmental environment. You will help with outings and proactively include clients in brainstorming ideas on activities that will make the most positive difference in their lives. Activities to deliver can match your own interests and skills – yoga, conversational English club, sports, sewing, arts and crafts – the list is endless!

Your role is crucial in complementing existing Migrant Help services by helping provide additional opportunities for clients to improve their skills and develop confidence.

What you will do

• Organise and deliver activities to people seeking asylum in agreed locations weekly
• Promote a safe and non-judgemental environment for people joining activities
• Organise and adapt activities centring clients’ voice
• Communicate with other volunteers and staff where needed to deliver activities smoothly
• Encourage clients’ independence and provide words of encouragement, empathy
• Pack and store items securely in agreed locations
• Organise and support outings for clients.
• Create interactive posters to encourage clients to engage in activities
• ​Be a point of contact for clients during activities and forward any concerns to staff
• Regularly communicate with volunteer coordinator and staff and openly share successes, challenges and ideas on improvement.

What will you be doing?

Volunteering in this role will mean you become a valued member of our local community fundraising team. We have peak times throughout the year when we need extra volunteers. Whether you enjoy organising behind the scenes or being out meeting the public, we need people who can offer some time on a flexible basis.

When would you be needed and where would you be based?

At Hope for the Young, our mission to support young refugees and asylum seekers in London as they overcome the many challenges of starting a new life in the UK. From navigating education systems to building confidence and social connections, our Volunteer Mentors play a crucial role in helping young people achieve their goals and fulfil their potential.

What You’ll Do as a Mentor

• Meet with a young person (mentee) once a week for 1–3 hours, usually in a local café, library, or community space in London

• Set education and personal development goals and offer guidance, support and motivation towards these

• Commit to mentoring for a minimum of six months

Why we want you

As branch chair you and your branch members will create a range of activities to help spread the word about SSAFA within your community. To ensure that our Armed Forces community know that SSAFA are here to help and that we need the public’s support to continue offering our services.

What you will be doing

· Overseeing an appropriate programme of awareness raising activities so that potential beneficiaries, volunteers and supporters are aware of SSAFA as first in mind for support.

· Building relationships with the regional and national SSAFA team, local voluntary organisations and, if applicable, SSAFA serving community teams, local military establishments, etc.

· Attending events as a key SSAFA representative.

· Providing timely reports and information to SSAFA’s central office

· Overseeing a programme of meetings including an AGM, branch meetings, committee meetings, training etc.

· Working with other volunteers, regional and national team members to attract and recruit new volunteers as required.

· Work closely with the community engagement co-ordinator to recruit, welcome, induct, support, and manage volunteers in line with SSAFA policies, such as the Volunteering Policy, Volunteer Code of Conduct, Data Protection Policy, and Safeguarding Policy.
