SUDEP Action is the only UK charity focused on preventing epilepsy-related deaths. We have the only epilepsy bereavement service freely available to anyone suddenly bereaved by epilepsy (including SUDEP). By representing the voices of those who have died and who are bereaved, we aim to learn from deaths, and use research, policy and campaigns to raise awareness and take action that helps save lives.
Working both independently and with the wider team you will deliver a high-quality community fundraising service. We’re looking for someone who has worked in a fundraising department and/or similar role before, preferably in the charity sector. Engaging confidently with people and feeling comfortable in adapting your approach to different audiences is a key skill for this role - whether they are major donors, corporates or community fundraisers. This is particularly important as many of our supporters & fundraisers are bereaved.
Building positive supporter connections is at the heart of what we do at SUDEP Action, so setting a positive example of this through your plans and actions, and demonstrating the importance of maintaining strong, personalised supporter relationships is key. You’ll know how to follow processes to record, monitor and evaluate supporters’ engagement with community fundraising activities, so this feeds back into how the charity operates.
Much of the charity’s income comes from our motivated and passionate supporters, so this role is a key part of income generation. The successful candidate will be able to build on current processes and successes to grow our engagement across all fundraising activities, platforms and campaigns. Experience of bid/grant writing would be desirable.

About the role:
Reporting to the Community and Events Lead, you will be part of a friendly team whose aim is to raise money from community and events fundraising activities. Sensory Services by Sight for Surrey has been established for over 100 years and is the major provider of services for people who are Deaf, hard of hearing, blind, partially sighted, and deafblind in Surrey.
We are looking to recruit a dynamic and creative Corporate and Community Fundraiser to lead on the development and growth of income through businesses and local communities across Surrey. Principle Accountabilities:

Work Context:
The post holder will be highly motivated and organised to research, identify and build new and existing relationships with local businesses and community organisations in order to increase unrestricted income and engagement for the charity.
Sight for Surrey constantly needs to reassess its priorities in line with a changing funding environment and the needs identified by its members and service users. These factors are crucial to the charity’s survival and need careful attention. In order for Sight for Surrey to successfully manage these pressures there is a need for all staff to be flexible and work wherever their core skills are needed most. COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

Understanding the overall aims and objectives of the team and how these contribute to Sensory Services by Sight for Surrey’s strategic plan. Planning their work to meet agreed targets, standards, and service user needs. Working within agreed procedures to achieve team and personal objectives. Full time annual leave entitlement is 28 days per annum. Sensory Services by Sight for Surrey complies with auto enrolment, we match contributions up to 6% using the Pensions Trust. You will seek to maximise funding opportunities, expand our portfolio of grant funders, and contribute to a growth in income from Trusts & Foundations. The successful candidate will be responsible for researching and identifying prospective funders, writing, and submitting high-quality grant applications, and delivering excellent grant management.
You should be a proactive self-starter, with excellent written communication skills and demonstrable strong attention to detail. With experience of successful fundraising bids to trust, charities and local authority, working with grant applications and/or funding proposals utilising a range of tools to identify new funding opportunities, as well as some experience of philanthropic fundraising.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Community and Events Fundraiser to join a national charity in order to engage with the community served by the charity to develop and implement plans for maximising income and support from individuals, groups and businesses. This will be achieved by working collaboratively with colleagues in the support of the broad income-generating initiatives the Fundraising department delivers, with a key focus on relationship building and management.
As a Senior Community and Events Fundraiser you will:
- Manage, achieve and where possible exceed income and development targets, taking a lead and individual responsibility for specific projects, activities and events.
- Ensure an excellent level of supporter care and stewardship to ensure that relationships with supporters are maintained and developed.
- Project manage open challenges (e.g. London Marathon, skydiving, international bike rides etc.) including looking for new opportunities, liaison with third-party organisers, participant recruitment and participant support.
- Work collaboratively with other teams across Fundraising and MarComms to market and promote fundraising products, activities and events.
- Support the Community Partnerships and Events Lead and contribute to the development of annual plans and budgets.
- Senior Community Fundraiser will line management of the Community and Events Fundraising Assistant
- Work with Volunteering to recruit and train new volunteers
In order to be successful, you must have experienced :
- experience of fundraising in a community, challenge or mass participant event capacity
- Experience of establishing and maintaining strong relationships with individual fundraisers/supporters and of developing partnerships
- Experience of setting and working to budgets, targets and plans.
- Previous experience of managing staff and/or volunteers.
- Experience of delivering talks and presentations.
- Demonstrable track record in working with different audiences.
- Experience of working as part of a team.
- Understanding of and experience with using CRM databases.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise with people at all levels, on the telephone, face to face and in writing.

This role will be based on site in Surrey and can be Part time (30hrs) or full time (37.5hrs), offering £35,000 (pro rata for part time).

The Role
