Job description

We are looking for an experienced Fundraiser with initiative, energy and ideas to join our hardworking and friendly team. 

SFCS is a dynamic, forward-looking Adoption Agency that works to place the most vulnerable children into stable homes and provides support through a variety of services. 

The overall purpose of the fund raising post is to generate income through applications to grant making trusts, with responsibility for managing and developing the trust programme. 

We are looking for a fundraiser with drive and ideas, ideally someone who could bring in up to £250k per annum, but realise that there could be other good candidates who would still achieve a result. The lowest amount we need to raise is around £150k a year.

You will be joining a hard-working, friendly team who care passionately about the Charity’s work.  You will be the sole fundraiser at SFCS, working closely with and reporting to the Finance Manager.

Overall Purpose:

The overall purpose is to generate income through applications to grant making trusts, with responsibility for managing and developing the trust programme. 

Additional responsibilities include raising the profile of the charity and generating other voluntary income in support of the delivery of the Society’s services.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Income Generation

  • To raise funds against agreed targets from a range of sources including trusts and foundations, companies, individual donors, business development opportunities, online channels and legacies and community groups and events.
  • To develop a strategy for identifying, cultivating and soliciting gifts and grants from new trusts and foundations.
  • To research, plan, deliver and grow all areas of fundraising; being responsible for identifying, engaging and asking potential donors for their support, as well as effectively managing existing donor relationships.
  • To work with the Marketing Officer to create effective and persuasive fundraising materials
  • To communicate with potential and existing donors through a range of media including online via social media, in writing, by telephone, face-to-face meetings, formal presentations and networking events
  • To adopt, adapt and improve existing fundraising methods and investigate new areas of fundraising; making recommendations to senior management.
  • To understand and promote tax effective giving.
  • To be aware of and compliant with the Institute of Fundraising standards of good practice.

Additional duties

  • To take responsibility for the fundraising strategy, updating it regularly
  • Agree income targets and other relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) with senior management
  • To monitor and review progress against fundraising targets and report to the management team and CEO monthly, and quarterly to the Trustees
  • To work with SFCS colleagues to understand priority funding needs, develop core and project proposals and budgets, and gather information required for donor reports.
  • To ensure that fundraising volunteers are properly inducted, supported and encouraged. 
  • To work with the Marketing Officer to ensure fundraising is promoted on Social Media and other opportunities
  • To respond appropriately and efficiently to compliments, complaints and concerns from donors and prospective donors.
  • To undertake other activities related to the objectives of the Society as may be referred from time to time.
  • To maintain accurate and accessible records, maintaining the Donorfy database.
  • To work flexibly including some evening and weekend working.
  • To undertake further duties at the request of the Management Team.
