Job Title: Housing Support Worker
Location: Based in Brent. This is a floating support service which means locations may vary from outreach sites, personal homes, and our office space. Please be kindly aware that although there is step free access available at our base office, we cannot guarantee step free access in the external locations which form as part of this role.
Salary: £28,800
Shift Pattern: 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday on a rota between 08:00 and 18:00 working 8 hour shifts. You may be required to work outside these hours as per service and participant requirements.
About the Role
We're hiring a Housing Support Worker to join our team based in Brent. In this role, you will support participants who have been or are at risk of homelessness, experienced social exclusion, mental health challenges, substance use challenges, learning disabilities and/or may have previous convictions. You will support participants on their journey towards recovery, reablement, and independence within a compassionate and trauma informed environment.
In this role, you'll be at the heart of delivering high quality, person centered support through tailored support plans which provide practical interventions, to empower our participants to overcome personal challenges, develop life skills, and achieve their personal goals. You will also work closely in partnership with various organisations to support the different needs of our participants, which may include signposting. Key Responsibilities Include:
- Support residents who may be facing challenges with their housing and long-term living
- Co-create tailored support plans through one to one sessions, group sessions, and multi agency meetings
- Support residents to build skills and confidence to build confidence to move towards independent living
- Signpost participants with local providers to support with their independence such as with Job Centres, employment support hubs, community support centres, mental health trusts and other as relevant.
- Lone working is part of the role, but you’ll always have a supportive team around
- Recognise support needs in an individual and initiate appropriate interventions to prevent further deterioration.
- Complete safeguarding and other referrals where required.
- Keep support plans updated on our online portals as appropriate
About You
We're looking for a passionate individual who has a shared mission to help people reduce their risk of homelessness. You will understand that the needs of our participants may vary from mental health, substance use, lack of confidence, and social exclusion. You will be a self motivated individual who is able to be proactive in managing your own time during busy or quiet periods to ensure productivity. You will be able to work collaboratively as part of a team, and will have alignment with our SIG values. You will be keen to support our residents to achieve their individual goals and support them to be the best versions of themselves.
- Previous professional or lived experience supporting people who have experienced homelessness and other complex needs
- Ability to engage with people from different backgrounds, build rapport, and empower them to achieve their personal goals
- Ability to show empathy and compassion and the different challenges people face; ability to come up with creative solutions to support them in their journey
- Ability to use, learn and adapt to IT at an intermediate level, including Microsoft and other software programs
- Ability and willingness to show flexibility of working patterns, responding to the needs of the service and residents
- Understanding of the different needs people with multiple and complex needs have and be aware of the social marginalisation that can be attached to people who face personal challenges

About the role
As Landlord Liaison Coach, you will join our team in Birmingham at an exciting time, delivering an outstanding property procurement service across the private and social rented sector. Working alongside our team of lead worker coaches you will identify appropriate matches of tenants and homes. In addition, you will be managing your own caseload of homeless members and providing advice, guidance and advocacy. It’s a role requiring commercial acumen and creativity as you partner with both social and private landlords to source accommodation for our members. You will work collaboratively with partners and staff across the organisation to ensure tenants receive the support they need to sustain their homes and landlord relationships are nurtured. To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate the following skills, experience and knowledge:
- Experience of sourcing, procuring, and allocating accommodation and making tenancies work for tenants and landlords
- Knowledge of the Birmingham (and surrounding areas) housing market and the barriers and opportunities faced by people who are homeless
- Experience of working with homeless people and supporting them achieve a positive housing outcome

About the Service
St Albans & District Foodbank is an independent charity within the Trussell network, operating nine foodbank centres across the district alongside a central warehouse and home delivery service. Over recent years, the Foodbank has developed a “More Than a Foodbank” model, recognising that food insecurity rarely exists in isolation and that many people accessing support are also experiencing poor mental health, debt, housing insecurity, social isolation and wider practical challenges.
Alongside emergency food provision, the Foodbank has developed strong partnership working with Citizens Advice St Albans District, local mental health organisations, statutory services and community groups to create a more joined-up and person-centred support model.
The Reaching Communities partnership between St Albans & District Foodbank, Citizens Advice and Hertfordshire Mind Network aims to provide integrated practical, emotional and wellbeing support within trusted community settings. The partnership focuses on early intervention, reducing repeat crisis, improving access to support and helping people navigate systems before situations escalate further.
About the Role
The Outreach Worker role is intended to feel fully embedded within the Foodbank environment and wider Foodbank Plus model, working relationally and practically alongside the Wellbeing Team, volunteers and partner organisations to support people experiencing hardship and complex life circumstances.
The purpose of the Hertfordshire Mind Network Community Outreach Worker role is to:
- Expand employment, health and wellbeing, and community engagement
- Strengthen existing service provision for financial advice, food security, and homelessness support.
- Build strong local partnerships, volunteer networks, and stakeholder relationships.
- Deliver measurable outcomes for residents, with a focus on those experiencing deprivation and marginalisation.
- To provide advice, information, onward referral and holistic support to clients with coexisting drug and alcohol difficulties, mental ill-health, these will be clients who are presenting to the police, anti-social behaviour, tenancy enforcement, housing and environmental health services within Hertfordshire.
- To ensure that the safety and wellbeing of the client is monitored and reviewed regularly.
- To remain a source of independent support for all clients.
- Embed a person centred and solution focused approach in all aspects of the role.
- To raise greater awareness of complex needs and the effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) amongst local service providers. Supporting them to gain confidence in working positively and consistently with people who have multiple needs.

This is a fixed term contract for 1 year.
What you'll do:
* Undertake key-working responsibilities for a caseload assigned by Management staff
* Meet customers regularly for support sessions, providing emotional and practical support
* Undertake initial and continuous assessment of needs and potential risks and agree levels of support and actions
* Develop support plans with customers to identify their goals, ensuring a person centred approach, enabling the customer to establish positive change
* Support customers to take care of their living environment, providing emotional and
* practical support to ensure customers enjoy a high-quality accommodation

A Support Worker will help to enable vulnerable people with complex support needs to manage their licences and move towards greater independence within the community by providing a flexible and individually tailored support package.
The shift pattern of the role consist of: 40 hours 1 x scattered site 2 x Pound Lane Shift pro-rota 7.30-3.30 and 1.30 -9.30 shift pattern with weekends included.
What you'll do:
* Undertake key-working responsibilities for a caseload assigned by the Team Leader / Manager
* Oversee the daily running of the service ensuring all health and safety responsibilities are met
* Raise safeguarding alerts and complete incident reports within specified timeframe
* Undertake initial and continuous assessment of needs and potential risks and agree levels of support and actions
* Create support/action plans for providing appropriate support based on the assessment and reflecting the services and resources available
* Support customers to undertake domestic tasks wherever possible, including practical assistance where they have not yet developed the skills, to ensure customers enjoy a high quality of living standards
* Support customers to move on from the service through their identified move on pathway liaising with our Resettlement Officer and Brent Housing team.
* Develop and maintain links with all key agencies and service providers in the local community
* Empower customers to ensure they receive the service and benefits they are entitled to
