Who are we?
St. John's is a non-maintained specialist provision, working with autistic people, the majority of whom also have learning disabilities. Some of our learners have co-occurring conditions such as epilepsy, hearing or visual impairments, or mental health needs. We also support autistic learners who have an additional profile of Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) syndrome. We have a team built up of support workers, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, nurses, PBS practitioners, assistant psychologists, and more, to support us in our holistic approach to development.
Each learner's curriculum is shaped by their individual strengths, interests, and challenges. St. John's is awarded with Autism Accreditation by the National Autistic Society (NAS). We support our learners to develop their skills in the NAS's four focus areas of:
- Difference in social communication and interaction
- Self-reliance and problem-solving
- Sensory
- Emotional Well-being
What are we looking for?
We've been doing this long enough to know that, whilst desirable, experience is not everything! Our amazing learning and development team and our passionate managers have coached people new to this field into support working roles. We know that if you have, the passion and desire to learn, and the want to empower others, you already have the foundations of an outstanding support worker. We are looking for drivers to support our young people to access the community, but having a licence isn't essential.

What will you be doing?
- Supporting the young people in a classroom setting and during breaktimes
- Implementing the learner's behaviour support plan and risk assessment
- Working within a team of multidisciplinary professionals across the charity
- Tracking the progress of individuals and reporting to the teacher, care manager, and/or parents at review meetings.

The Communities Lead will lead the development and delivery of the Communities of Hope strand of the project. You’ll ensure that the Hope and Healing network, practitioners and activists have support and guidance to deliver an approach to community work that is trauma-informed and community-led.
You will manage the Hope and Healing Practitioners (likely from Year 2) and support partners in local communities. You'll work together to build capacity within local community pilots and projects, whilst also building wider connections at different levels of local systems to bring about meaningful and sustainable change.
You will play a key role in supporting project partners as well as local partners and activists, enhancing their knowledge of trauma-informed, strengths-based and asset-based community development approaches. You will help ensure that learning is gathered and disseminated, including examples of theory into practice.
You will be a person who can connect with communities in a meaningful way and who understands the pressures and realities for practitioners on the ground. You’ll be able to take the lead from what is strong, and bring local resources, assets and different people together to create hope and conditions for community-led healing. You’ll share your experience and expertise to help develop our wider work at Platfform.

We are seeking to appoint a Workforce Education and Training Development Manager to join our team at the British Psychological Society. The role delivers a variety of activity, predominantly linked to the area of pre-qualification such as accreditation, workforce development, qualifications and careers activity.
This specialist role is integral to the Society’s work in supporting new innovations in workforce development. The key purpose of the role is to manage key initiatives and programmes related to the psychological professions, including apprenticeships development, standards developments, competency mapping, CPD activity and the identification of niche or bespoke education and training offers.
The post-holder will seek to identify and nurture broader access into the psychological professions, whilst ensuring quality is maintained. The role is largely externally facing, with responsibility for building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders across both the public and private sectors and all four nations. It is responsible for identifying future trends, representing and promoting the society and the psychological professions to external audiences.
In addition, the post-holder will work closely in collaboration with colleagues across the organisation, and external stakeholders, on a wide range of projects relating to the Society’s strategic objectives for Workforce, Education and Training.
To apply, you will need in-depth knowledge of the education and training sector, and experience in quality assurance and enhancement work in an HE, professional body or membership organisation. You must have an awareness of external policy drivers and an understanding of workforce development strategies.
