Help us share the story of Mary’s Meals and our life-changing work feeding hungry children at school in some of the world’s poorest communities by giving Mary’s Meals talks to local community organisations, schools, churches and faith groups to raise vital awareness and funds.

East London Waterworks Park is a volunteer-led charity that has won a 2024 New London Architecture award and raised £2m towards buying land from the Department for Education to transform the 14-acre Thames Water Depot on Lea Bridge Road on the border of Waltham Forest and Hackney, into a new biodiverse park with natural swimming ponds, forest schools and community spaces. 

We are creating a fundraising strategy for our next phase of work: an exciting programme of community projects. If you have experience of planning or running fundraising campaigns, we would love to hear from you. Our community-led strategic process, as well as all of our work, is open for everyone to participate in.

The Fundraising Circle currently meets fortnightly on a Thursday evening on Google Meet and spends voluntary time outside of the meeting completing agreed tasks remotely. We understand that people may not have a lot of time to give, so we want to find volunteers who could give us one-off or ongoing strategic advice and support.

If you have experience in writing grants and funding applications, corporate fundraising, philanthropy, or any other aspect of fundraising, it would be great to hear from you. 

We are keen fundraisers but we are lacking professional expertise and experience and we would love your help and input. We would welcome one-off advice on the phone or in person, as well as longer term volunteers. 

East London Waterworks Park is an exciting and ambitious project that offers many rewarding opportunities for our volunteers. You will have a significant impact on the creation of a new biodiverse community-owned park with free access natural swimming ponds and forest schools. 

By leading fundraising projects that explore how diverse professionals (architects, ecologists, web developers, community researchers etc.) collaborate to shape community infrastructure, volunteers will directly contribute to the development of a park that truly reflects the needs and desires of the local community. 

Without funding we won’t be able to make it happen. Your input will help us craft experiences that inspire, educate, and engage our service users, stakeholders, funders, and the general public, ultimately driving support for the park's mission and ensuring its long-term sustainability. So you will be directly contributing to the creation of a new biodiverse community-owned park with free access natural swimming ponds.

Read Easy provides free, confidential, one to-one reading coaching for adults who struggle with reading, through a network of volunteer groups. Read Easy groups are changing the lives of individual adults across the country by providing them with the support they need to learn to read, and in turn opening doors for them to all sorts of new opportunities in life. As the Team Leader you are responsible for the proper and effective direction of your local group. This role will appeal to someone with enthusiasm and energy who will enjoy managing a team of diverse volunteers. Ideally, the Team Leader will remain in this role for at least two years.

How we will support you

You will be provided with the Management Team Handbook, training/induction, policies, and guidance specifically needed for this role, including access to support from a Read Easy UK Regional Adviser, via your Team Leader. You will also be invited to Read Easy UK’s regional forums and annual conference which gives volunteers an opportunity for networking with those from other groups.

What you will be doing

● Leading the Management Team in setting goals and planning activities so that it functions effectively in delivering reading coaching to as many local people as possible.

● Encouraging and supporting Team members to fulfil and enjoy their roles, and managing succession planning for the group.

● Leading meetings and setting agendas.

● Ensuring that tasks are delegated and effectively completed so that all on the Management Team are able to contribute to the success of Read Easy locally.

● Ensuring that the requirements of your Constitution and Affiliation Agreement are met, and that the guidance in the handbooks provided by Read Easy UK is followed.

● Acting as an ambassador for your Read Easy group and building positive and beneficial relationships with key stakeholders.

● Building strong relationships with your Read Easy UK Regional Adviser.

● Maintaining and promoting the reputation of your group and of Read Easy UK as a whole and ensuring that members of the group uphold Read Easy UK’s values

The skills you need

Service

Amy’s Place is a partnership between the Amy Winehouse Foundation and Clarion Housing Group providing supported living accommodation for young women in recovery and receiving support with drug and alcohol issues.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable and compassionate volunteer with good interpersonal skills and a desire to teach guitar, who will support young women to develop their piano skills and positively encourage their creative expression.

Location

East London.

Commitment

This is a flexible opportunity and volunteering times and frequency will vary depending on your availability and the needs of service users.  It might be every week or fortnight, 3 to 4 hours, ideally for a minimum of 3 months.

DBS

This role requires us to carry out a check through the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Activities

• Providing guitar lessons to residents, as well as supporting their individual musical goals.
• Developing and delivering individual session plans and documented session outcomes in order to assist each resident’s personal growth.

Support

• Volunteers receive a thorough induction and have access to any relevant in-house and external training.
• Volunteers have a named supervisor providing day-to-day support and encouragement.

Who are we?

We are Buttons & Bubbles CIC. We work with children, young people, families and other professionals associated and affected by illness and disability. We have several different services including inclusive characters, sensory workshops, resources, events, advocacy and more.

What are we looking for?

Do you enjoy art? Graphic design? Are you an amazing illustrator? Then we might just have a project for you. One of our aims is to have every type of disability in every culture, religion and ethnicity depicted through our characters. And yes, we know that’s going to mean a lot of hard work and a lot of characters! But NO we are not asking you to complete this entire project!

We’ve created 11 characters so far that depict a variety of conditions. We want to look at potentially re-developing these characters and starting work on some new ones!

What do we expect?

• Be willing to undertake our training programme which will be done virtually and at a time to suit you.

• Have an Enhanced DBS check (preferably be on the update system)

• Sign our volunteer contract. (If you disagree with anything in it please do discuss it

  with us and we will be happy to have a conversation and make small changes if

  appropriate).

• A positive attitude to disability and illness. We are happy to answer questions on this.

What will you be doing?

Depending on your skills and availability, you may support with:

You will be supported to work within WSUP’s trauma-informed and psychologically informed (TIC/PIE) approach. Lived experience is welcome but not essential.

WSUP is a grassroots charity supporting people experiencing hardship and/or housing instability across Royal Borough of Greenwich. We work with people facing poverty, homelessness, substance misuse, trauma, and health inequalities. Our support is holistic, inclusive, and rooted in lived experience.

RSBC Dorton College is an independent specialist college in the London Borough of Bromley. We offer day provision for 16 to 25-year-olds, and many of our students have additional needs.

We’re the only independent specialist further education provider for vision impaired young people in London and the Southeast. We offer a wide range of courses, and a bespoke curriculum supported by a diverse range of trained staff.

Dorton College are looking for volunteers to help assist in the general running of the college, getting hands on with lessons, movement and independance building exercises. 

Role: Learning Support Volunteer

Commitment: Due to the nature of the role, RSBC are looking for a regular commitment. 1 half day per week for example.

Location: RSBC Dorton College of Further Education, Orpington Campus, The Walnuts, Orpington, BR6 0TE 

Availability: We have shifts available between Monday and Friday, the centre is open from 8am – 4pm term time only.

What will I be doing?

RSBC Dorton College is an independent specialist college in the London Borough of Bromley. We offer day provision for 16 to 25-year-olds, and many of our students have additional needs. 

We’re the only independent specialist further education provider for vision impaired young people in London and the Southeast. We offer a wide range of courses, and a bespoke curriculum supported by a diverse range of trained staff. 

RSBC are looking for volunteers here at get involved at our Dorton College helping our young people to learn, grow and develop with your support.

Dorton college’s specialist approach which blends mainstream and specialist education creates a unique environment for students to grow their independance.

You will be helping young people to navigate their educational environment: preparing resources, assisting with movement and making sure young people are engaging with

Alongside this, you can also have the opportunity to get one on one experience, helping students to take notes and engage with the lesson, and supporting and running small group activities.

Moveover, Dorton college prides itself on helping our students to grow their independence. Volunteers would also have the opportunity to get involved in sessions designed to help grow learners independant skills such as cooking sessions, local community visits and utilising public transport.

This is a fantastic role if you are looking to gain experience in education or health and social care, especially in the SEN sphere.

Due to the nature of the role, we are looking for volunteers who can contribute 1 half day per week, and as explained below, there are safeguarding checks to complete before you can start.

Key Tasks and Main Duties 

Operational support tasks: 

• Assist in preparing learning environments and resources 

• Help supervise break and lunch periods alongside staff 

• Support student movement around campus (training provided) 

• Participate in enrichment or community-based events 

• Assist with light admin or data capture tasks, such as logging attendance or session feedback 

Learner Engagement Opportunities: 

• Act as a reader, note-taker, or scribe in classroom sessions 

• Support small group activities or one-to-one work under staff guidance 

• Help facilitate creative or independence-building sessions (e.g. cooking, tech, mobility) 

Who are you?

We welcome applications from people with a wide range of skills and experiences. You don’t need to have volunteered or worked in the sector before as full training will be provided. What’s important to us is that you are a team player, open to learning and willing to follow RSBC’s policies and can be an excellent ambassador for RSBC. We particularly welcome applications from people with lived experience of sight problems.

As part of your volunteering, you will have access to Sighted Guide training, a training session designed to help you understand the issues and complexities of sight problems and give you the ability to help others navigate the world.

RSBC also provides paid expenses for your volunteering experience, you can claim up to £10 per day.

RSBC can also provide references and impact reports from your volunteering if required. 

You will be fully supported in your role by our team of expert and compassionate service delivery team.

Mary's Living & Giving for Save the Children is unique - a vibrant result of the generous gifts of local individuals and companies being turned around by the skills and passions of volunteer teams, to create a destination retail experience. Selling womenswear, menswear, shoes, and bags to household goods, our shops can be found in the London villages and bring in vital funds for Save the Children.

Our East Dulwich Shop Volunteers are in the middle of it all, and there’s plenty to get involved with. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, creating fantastic window displays or keeping our shop floor looking organised.

It’s up to you how much you commit. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week - this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied. We would also love to hear from people willing to volunteer on Sundays.

We would love to hear from anyone with experience of fundraising online or with enthusiasm and a desire to test things out and learn as you go along. Recently we raised over half a million pounds through our Crowdfunder. Now we are looking to create a sustainable medium term income stream online.

The Fundraising Circle currently meets fortnightly on a Thursday evening on Google Meet and spends voluntary time outside of the meeting completing agreed tasks remotely. We understand that people may not have a lot of time to give, so we want to find volunteers who could give us one-off or ongoing strategic advice and support.

If you have experience in writing grants and funding applications, corporate fundraising, philanthropy, or any other aspect of fundraising, it would be great to hear from you. 

We are keen fundraisers but we are lacking professional in digital fundraising expertise and experience and we would love your help and input. We would welcome one-off advice on the phone or in person, as well as longer term volunteers. 

East London Waterworks Park is an exciting and ambitious project that offers many rewarding opportunities for our volunteers. You will have a significant impact on the creation of a new biodiverse community-owned park with free access natural swimming ponds and forest schools. 

By leading fundraising projects that explore how diverse professionals (architects, ecologists, web developers, community researchers etc.) collaborate to shape community infrastructure, volunteers will directly contribute to the development of a park that truly reflects the needs and desires of the local community. 

Without funding we won’t be able to make it happen. Your input will help us craft experiences that inspire, educate, and engage our service users, stakeholders, funders, and the general public, ultimately driving support for the park's mission and ensuring its long-term sustainability. So you will be directly contributing to the creation of a new biodiverse community-owned park with free access natural swimming ponds.

Role Summary

Education Outreach Volunteers support the Reptile Centre by assisting with community education sessions, school visits, events, and public engagement activities. Volunteers help promote reptile welfare, conservation awareness, and responsible pet ownership. This role is ideal for people who enjoy working with the public, have an interest in animals, and want to make a positive impact in the community.

Key Responsibilities

Support Educational Sessions

• Assist staff during school visits, workshops, and community outreach events.

• Help set up and pack away educational materials, displays, and activity stations.

• Support the delivery of interactive demonstrations (with or without live animals, depending on training).

• Engage with visitors, answer basic questions, and help create a welcoming learning environment.

Animal Handling (Optional Based on Training)

• Handle reptiles safely during sessions once trained and approved by senior staff.

• Support welfare checks and ensure animals are comfortable during events.

• Help maintain safe handling practices with the public.

Community Engagement

• Represent the Reptile Centre positively at fairs, open days, fundraising events, and exhibitions.

• Share information about the centre’s conservation work, rescue stories, and how people can get involved.

• Encourage visitors to support fundraising campaigns and ongoing community initiatives.

Event Support

• Assist with coordinating groups during onsite and offsite sessions.

• Help manage queues, guide groups, and provide general visitor support.

• Prepare craft materials, activity sheets, or demonstration equipment.

Practical Support

• Help maintain the cleanliness and organisation of education and outreach equipment.

• Support the preparation of educational resources and displays.

• Assist with basic administrative tasks such as feedback collection or session records.

Skills & Qualities Needed

Essential

• Friendly, reliable, and comfortable speaking with the public.

• Enthusiastic about reptiles, wildlife, conservation, or animal education.

• Willingness to learn and follow safety and welfare guidelines.

• Good teamwork skills and a positive, helpful attitude.

Desirable

• Experience working with animals, children, or in an educational setting.

• Confidence handling reptiles (training will be provided).

• Knowledge of reptile care, conservation, or science communication.
