Web developers and designers wanted to support East London Waterworks Park in continuing to improve its website and digital infrastructure.

East London Waterworks Park is a volunteer-led charity that has won a 2024 New London Architecture award and raised £2m towards buying land from the Department for Education to transform the 14-acre Thames Water Depot on Lea Bridge Road on the border of Waltham Forest and Hackney, into a new biodiverse park with natural swimming ponds, forest schools and community spaces.

There is opportunity to lead on projects across web development and UX and web design, and facilitate the direction of the working group.

About Jabalie

Jabalie is a UK registered charity that aims to educate and empower survivors and individuals at high-risk of gender-based violence to promote their safety, autonomy and economic independence. Our vision is a world in which people of all genders are economically empowered, free from violence and abuse, and lead full lives with freedom and autonomy.

We are currently developing an education and empowerment programme for survivors of gender-based violence, to be delivered in the UK and Kenya.

Our name is derived from the word “Jabali” meaning “strong as a rock” in Swahili, symbolising  the strength of all those we work with.

Role description

The Board of Trustees plays a vital role in making sure that Jabalie achieves its core purpose. They oversee the overall management and administration of the charity. They also ensure that Jabalie has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision.

As a small and newly registered charity, our Trustees have an active role in the organisation relating to their area of expertise, beyond the Board meetings.

General Trustee Duties

The duties of a Trustee include:

• Attending and contributing at quarterly Trustee Board meetings.
• Ensuring that Jabalie pursues its stated objectives (purposes) defined in its Constitution, including helping to develop a long-term strategy to achieve them.

Philanthropy and Development

The Associate Board Member roles have been created to support individuals who are currently under-represented in the cultural sector, providing greater access to training opportunities, and to add further diversity and richness of perspective to the organisation.

Associate Board Members will:

Practical Details

Role purpose

As a Trustee you will make a significant contribution to creating empowering opportunities for young people from under-represented backgrounds.

ShowerBox is a registered charity that has been providing free and secure showers as well as toiletries and supplies, warm drinks, snacks and haircuts to individuals facing homelessness since 2018. Our mission is to enhance our guests’ sense of physical well-being and dignity, help combat social isolation, and provide access to other essential resources such as health clinics and mobile libraries. By empowering individuals, we hope to help them make long term improvement in their lives.

Learning of individuals having passed away from preventable illnesses on the streets due to an inability to get clean and the social stigma associated with poor personal hygiene, Sarah Lamptey (our CEO) started offering weekly showers in St. Giles churchyard in Soho, London, from 2019. ShowerBox became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) in 2021 and since then has been expanding nationally. Now, we operate in multiple sites – Central London, Birmingham, and Barking – either independently or in partnership. Central London remains our biggest site, followed by Birmingham and Barking, and we are in initial discussion with others. We receive our funds through philanthropy – currently supported by National Lottery Community Fund, Vitol Foundation, HS2, amongst others.

You will be reliable and easy to contact and you need to live in or near the area the group to carry out this role.

We are looking to recruit a Fundraising Volunteer for the Preston Group. As our Fundraising Volunteer you’ll support your Fundraising Group Coordinator to organise local fundraising activities and events throughout the year.

We are seeking a proactive and skilled WordPress Website Developer Volunteer to support the ongoing development and maintenance of our website, helping us improve access to information, campaign visibility, and community resources.

Job Summary

The WordPress Website Developer Volunteer will be responsible for managing and enhancing our website’s functionality, performance, and user experience. This role includes tasks such as page creation, plugin and theme management, updates, bug fixes, and content integration, ensuring the website is accessible, secure, and reflective of Trans Celebration’s values and campaigns.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and update the WordPress website, including themes, plugins, and content.
• Ensure website security, performance, and accessibility compliance.
• Troubleshoot technical issues and apply necessary fixes or improvements.
• Collaborate with the content and design teams to implement new features or page layouts.
• Optimise site structure, responsiveness, and mobile compatibility.
• Assist with SEO enhancements and website analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics).
• Ensure consistent branding and user-friendly navigation throughout the site.
• Provide basic technical support or documentation for internal users or editors.

What We’re Looking For

Skills & Competencies:

• Proficiency in WordPress (customisation, page builders, plugins, and themes).
• Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and basic PHP.
• Experience with website troubleshooting, security, and performance optimisation.
• Understanding of responsive and accessible web design principles.
• Ability to integrate third-party tools (e.g., MailChimp, forms, social media feeds).
• Experience working with page builders like Elementor, WPBakery, or Gutenberg is a plus.

Bonus Experience (Not Required):

• Knowledge of SEO best practices and Google Analytics.
• Experience in nonprofit or grassroots digital communication strategies.
• Familiarity with web accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design.
