Job description
Support Worker

Dementia devastates lives. By 2021, 1 million people will be living with the condition. But dementia won't win. Until the day we find a cure, Alzheimer's Society will be here for anyone affected by dementia - wherever they are, whatever they're going through. Everything we do is informed and inspired by them.

We are the UK's leading dementia charity. Every day, we work tirelessly to find new treatments and, ultimately, a cure for dementia. We provide expert information, training, and support services to all those who need our help. And we are creating a more dementia-friendly society so people with the condition can live without fear and prejudice.

Please note during the current COVID19 situation all services are being delivered remotely by telephone or video conferencing. Also, candidates are advised that internal applicants subject to potential redeployment may take precedence.

Support Worker Responsibilities:

Alzheimer’s Society Wakefield’s Dementia Support service involves dedicated members of staff giving one to one support, information and guidance to people with dementia or their carers and wider family or friends, to help people understand dementia, cope with day to day living with dementia and prepare for the future. We are at the core of ensuring that people affected by dementia across Wakefield have access to a clear and supportive pathway throughout their journey with dementia.

As a Dementia Support Worker with our Wakefield team you will have the rewarding opportunity to provide support and guidance to people with dementia and their carers; helping to maintain their independence, improving their sense of well-being, and putting them in more control of their lives. The service is unique to each service user as it is based upon their personal circumstances and support needs.

You will offer support and guidance to your clients in a variety of ways, whether in the client's own home, at service offices or at other locations, face to face, by phone, letter or email.

Support Worker Requirements:

We are looking for an individual who possess NVQ level 3 (or equivalent) with an understanding of dementia and the needs of those living with dementia and their carers.

Your ability to assess client needs along with the understanding of the need for client confidentially is essential to providing a valuable and worthwhile service.

To be successful in this role you will have excellent non-judgmental communication skills as well as strong organisational and time management skills in order to manage your caseload of clients effectively.

About Alzheimer’s Society:

Alzheimer’s Society embraces diversity, inclusion and accessibility for all of our people. We are committed to building a diverse organisation that represents the communities we serve and ensuring inclusion in everything we do.
