The region’s leading charity in tackling violence against women and girls, BSWA offers a helpline, webchat, drop in and and community support as well as emergency accommodation in six refuges across the area.  

Projects supports women in the criminal justice system, in healthcare settings, and throughout the community, offering support to women and children experiencing domestic violence. Alongside this, we also have colleagues offering training and consultancy to businesses and health and social care professionals alike, raising awareness on gender based violence issues.  

We seek like-minded women to join our enthusiastic team of workers, all of us passionate about the vital and valuable work we do to support women and children who have experienced domestic abuse, and tackling the wider issues of violence against women and girls. 

This role will develop and deliver mental health support within a refuge setting and establish links with Mental Health agencies.

Principle responsibilities

1. Deliver person centred housing related support to clients that promotes their mental wellbeing and independence supporting them to progress to a life without the need for support. To work with clients in assessing their needs to create individual personal support and plans.

2. Ensure that anti-racism, equality and diversity are central to your work addressing disadvantage, inequalities, stigma and discrimination, making sure that you take action to reach people from marginalised or disadvantaged groups and that the services you provide match their needs.

3. To network effectively with voluntary and statutory agencies to promote the needs of the clients. Working with clients so that they have the knowledge, understanding and skills to access services, support and to improve their mental wellbeing and resilience. About this key role

Our successful candidate will carry out initial and ongoing assessments of the support needs of individual participants, before providing them with essential advocacy, mentoring, guidance and training interventions that meet their needs, plus engage and case-manage eligible participants on the CFO Evolution programme by providing ongoing resettlement support.  You will be expected to create an Action Plan, plan and design appropriate activities, training programmes and interventions, and establish and deliver high-quality, engaging one-to-one and group sessions, while also monitoring participants’ progress and providing timely monthly reports.

We will also rely on you to develop strong relationships with HMPPS/agencies offering support, where appropriate provide holistic wrap-around with general elements of resettlement support and working collaboratively plan for and facilitate effective Through the Gate and warm handover to the relevant Support Worker in Community.

• Working with offenders, or those disaffected and marginalised from mainstream services, in training, guidance, advice and counselling environments would be advantageous

About the role

We're hiring a Support Coach to join our Independent Approved Premises, commissioned by Criminal Justice Service (IAP) which works with high risk offenders who have left prison. Penrose Drive is a community setting, rather than custodial where residents can go out in the community if they do not have restrictions on their license. Security is therefore flexible in both design and operation. The team work in a multi disciplinary approach, working alongside probation services, job centres, mental health teams, and other community partners. You will join the team to support in the rehabilitation and reintegration of our residents back into the community. You will engage with them through key working activities to understand their needs and goals, then provide pathways and support to enable them to independence and help reduce reoffending. 

The service hold regular activities in service, in a bright and airy environment. The team work closely with one another and support which achieving overall service KPI's, and you will be part of making a greater change. Everyday looks different so this is perfect for someone who wants a role where no two days are the same. We provide fresh hot meals to our residents which can also be enjoyed by staff. 

About you

We're looking for someone who has a background in ciminal justice services, and has a real passion for what we do. You will be able to work in a fast paced environment, be proactive, and have resilience to challenges. You will thrive working within the team as well as independently, and be comfortable with working with people who have different offending histories. We're looking for someone who can build trust and rapport with others, and has a positive outlook, which can be used to support others. 

• Ability to manage own caseload and determine priorities with time management. Able to use own initiative
• Experience of working with people of complex backgrounds, ex-offenders, mental health, substance misuse, challenging behaviours or a good understanding of the sector.
• IT Proficiency, ability to learn new software programs, basic Microsoft experience

We are looking for a Senior Mental Health Advocate – Neurodiversity Specialist

Salary: £29,000- £32,000

Location: Advance Head Office Hammersmith & Women’s Centres across London, with co- location at HMP Bronzefield

About the role:

This is a great chance to be a part of a service working alongside the Healthcare & Education Department within HMP Bronzefield to identify and support women who are identified as being neurodiverse and will be returning to the community. Of that cohort, the Advocate will focus support on women with a mental health need and improve their transition into the community, with ongoing community support; including collaborating with other healthcare professionals to their develop support plans.

The Senior MH Advocate will work in a multi-disciplinary way, including attending the weekly complex case meeting and/or the Safety Intervention Meeting (SIM) as appropriate, they will act as a specialist member of the wider Minerva Criminal Justice Service - London team, to facilitate a pathway for women with complex needs including mental health and neurodiversity needs. The Senior Advocate will create a link between prison and the community, helping women to navigate support services and to positively re-integrate into their community upon release. They will co-design a person-centred support and action plan with women accessing support, enabling to support them to address their needs and any risks. The role will combine a casework- based approach, along with a signposting and advice service for the women.

The Senior Mental Health Advocate will be based in the community and will provide a drop-in service (1-2 day per week) in HMP Bronzefield to support women who are close to release. The role will also include line management of other advocates such as; Specialist Prison & Probation Advocates who will be based in the prison and the Loss & Bereavement Worker who will be providing support in the prison as well as in the community.

A car may be desirable for this role, though not essential

About You:

To be successful as the Senior Mental Health Advocate you will need the below experience and skills:

An excellent understanding of mental health, neurodiversity needs violence against women and girls and its links to women in the criminal justice system

Experience of managing/supervising a team of advocates/caseworkers – and leading a team to achieve targets & outcomes as well as appropriately managing and leading the team on any safeguarding concerns/incidents.

You will have the ability to complete trauma informed, support and action plans in collaboration with the woman; to support in addressing their multiple and individual needs and enable them to engage with services, which will result in timely and prescribed outcomes being achieved.

You will possess excellent organisational skills, excellent communication skills and be able to work in a prison environment whilst remaining calm.

Hillside is looking for a part time Caseworker to join the Mental Health Recovery Team which supports Islington residents with:

• Person-centred, coproduced and trauma informed recovery-focused interventions.
• Promotes independence and self-management for members
• Delivers a wraparound service in partnership with local authority, statutory agencies and community partners.
• Ensures members ‘involvement in active volunteering and coproduced activities, service planning and reviews

Main responsibilities:

• Motivate, lead and encourage member participation at all levels of responsibility, working alongside members to complete tasks.

• To work as a member of Hillside Team to deliver outcomes for the Recovery Programme
• To keep systems and database up to date with members ‘information
• To provide information and support at a time of crisis to service users.
• To manage a caseload of complex adult client cases, providing client centred, practical and emotional support.

• Sensitivity to cultural differences and the ability to work in diverse settings and with people with diverse needs.
