ROLE PURPOSE
The Site, Safety and Security Manager is an important new role at Chelmsford Cathedral. The role holder will have overall responsibility for the maintenance and security of Chelmsford Cathedral, Churchyard and its wider estate.
CONTEXT
The Site, Safety and Security Manager has a significant role in the overall management of Chelmsford Cathedral’s site and estates.
The Key aspects of this are:-
- Managing the maintenance of the Cathedral and its wider site (Cathedral church, site buildings and Churchyard) including the fabric, building services, engineering systems, utilities, security and grounds and the supervision of planned maintenance works;
- Overseeing the management of the Cathedral’s wider property portfolio in liaison with the Estate Committee, Chief Officers and Head of Property and Operations.
- Effecting and managing a robust and proactive culture to meet statutory obligations in relation to Health & Safety and other safety frameworks.
- Leading on site security particularly in relation to our public spaces, and liaising with local police and community protection services.
- Driving the Cathedral’s efforts to achieve the Church of England’s 2030 Carbon Net Zero targets, including reducing its emissions, improving energy efficiency, and promoting environmental stewardship, along with working to retain our Gold Eco Church Award
- Managing, monitoring and reporting, (as required), on the departmental budget and programme delivery.
A large 4 bedroom family home, (located on the Cathedral site), with front and back gardens and ample parking is included as part of the remuneration package. The house is deemed necessary for the performance of duties of this role so will not form a taxable benefit.
Hours of work: 35 hours per week (excluding lunch breaks). This role requires flexibility on the part of the post holder who will be required to be available, out of office hours, to perform the final evening sweep and securement of all buildings on site. The Cathedral is open seven days a week and the post holder will need to be able to work from time to time during evenings, weekends and bank holidays including at significant liturgical services such as at Christmas and Easter.

About the role
This is an exciting role with responsibility for both IT and Digital. You will actively implement new tools and platforms, oversee data protection compliance and cyber security, whilst developing effective policies and guidelines spanning our IT infrastructure. You will also take ownership of our digital strategy across all channels, driving service delivery and managing significant relationships, contracts and budgets. We will look to you to lead digital transformation and champion innovation, whilst delivering workshops and training sessions to diverse colleagues. In short, you will be the catalyst that gets the most from our online presence, our technology and our vendors and partners, ensuring best practice and value in everything you do.
Hours: 35 hours per week.
Location: Hybrid working, with one day per week at our London office.
About you
Highly experienced as an IT thought leader and manager with technical experience, you will combine a strategic mindset with a truly hands-on approach. Developing strategy, as well as leading and managing IT and digital change projects should be second nature to you. Similarly, you will be experienced in mentoring teams and controlling websites, CMS platforms and integrated digital systems. A degree in Computer Science or a related discipline would be beneficial, alongside knowledge of data protection legislation, digital accessibility and inclusion, Squiz DXP, Azure, Intune and AWS. However your ability to communicate effectively with non-technical colleagues is just as important. Above all, you will bring everything it takes to get the most out of people, systems and budgets, with real passion for cutting-edge technology and the drive and determination to make things happen.

Trusts and Grants Officer

This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious individual who is confident in managing a portfolio of small trusts and foundations and would like to gain experience working on major trust and grant applications.
We are looking for an experienced trusts and foundations fundraiser to join our team. This role will be a key part of our fundraising team, managing a portfolio of trust and foundations with the capacity to give up to £25,000 and the opportunity to assist with major grant funding bids which will enable us to drive forward our ambitious goals.
You will deliver high quality written applications and reports in line with funder deadlines and keep in touch with donors and prospects via phone, virtually and in face-to-meetings and visits.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Ability to manage tasks from start to finish and prioritise work to meet set deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to think creatively to generate income in line with our strategy.
Key responsibilities and tasks to meet the fundraising strategic targets:
- Income generation
- Managing a portfolio of Trusts and Foundations to complete funding applications and, working with the Grants and Project Development Manager, to agree an annual programme of grant and trust applications to meet defined income targets.
- Assisting the Grants and Project Development Manager on major grant-funding applications and aligning smaller funds to secure match-funding for larger projects.
- Carrying out prospect research to identify new trust and grant funding opportunities.
- Fund Relationship Management
- Stewarding an agreed portfolio of existing Trust and Foundation relationships, ensuring funder contributions are appropriately recognised and acknowledged and that grant criteria are met.
- Co-ordinating reports to funders, ensuring reports meet requirements and are sent on time.
- Developing new relationships with trust and foundation prospects identified to secure new income.
- Ensuring data on grant income and funders are updated and maintained to a high standard on the Trusts’ customer relationship management system (Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT) and SWT SharePoint.
- Assisting with the administration of the Trust’s Programme Management Board (PMB) and project development documentation, helping develop cases of support and content for funding applications.
- Supporting Wilder Fundraising Strategy
- Highlighting funding opportunities to SWT teams and contributing to funding applications led by other teams.
- Liaising with SWT Finance team to ensure grants are properly recorded, allocated and spending tracked.
- Providing additional support to the Fundraising & Marketing Team (F&M) and other SWT teams, as required and agreed with your line manager.
