Summary
- Provide strategic consultancy to help, support, advise and partner with a portfolio of dioceses in the north of the country as they develop their mission, people and financial plans in line with strategic priorities of the Church's Vision and Strategy.
- Support and advise diocesan leadership teams in the design, review and implementation of their strategic funded programmes, including missional and structural design, moving from planning to implementation, introducing appropriate programme governance, attending programme boards and advising on delivery.
- Develop appropriate resources, including strategy development tools, project and programme best practice tools to help dioceses develop their strategic plans.
- Significant experience of working as an advisor with a variety of senior stakeholders in an internal or external consultancy role.
- Significant experience of developing strategy in large and complex organisations and aligning strategy alongside people planning and financial planning.
- Excellent relationship management and communication skills (including experience of working with senior colleagues).
- The knowledge and ability to support the delivery of complex transformation programmes.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure when required.
- A salary of £66,186 per annum plus age-related pension contributions between 8-15% of salary. We will also match any pension contributions you make up to an additional 3% of salary.

The Consultant role will support the Director and Mobilise team to coordinate and deliver a range of projects supporting our clients. Race Equity in YEF’s research and evaluation
As a research organisation, we have a duty to make sure that we fund projects that build evidence on how we can reduce racial disproportionality across public services. We also need to make sure that our evaluations improve our understanding of what works for children from Black, Asian and other minority backgrounds.
A key challenge in achieving this goal is that at the moment, in England and Wales, evaluators and researchers are disproportionately White. There’s a lack of lived experience of racism, which affects the design of evaluations and other kinds of research. For example, both the economics1 and psychology2 professions, which represent two major contributors to the evaluation community have demonstrable issues in ensuring diversity in both graduates and professionals. This creates recruitment challenges both for YEF and for evaluation teams.
Last year, we built a pool of consultants that we pair with members of our evaluator, researcher, and project delivery organisations to advise on the race equity implications of their research designs. We are now looking to add to this pool of consultants.
Adopting a race equity perspective in research and evaluation can include activities such as the following:

Landscape Assessment: Understanding the historical and political context in which the research study will operate and provide opportunities for stakeholders to share their perceptions of the apparent issue or topic.

Design and Data Collection: Carefully choosing a study design and data collection methods that promote equitable outcomes.

Data Analysis: Orienting qualitative and quantitative data analysis toward uncovering root causes.

Dissemination: Devising a comprehensive dissemination strategy that considers the language used, stakeholders as the key audience, and actionable results.

Who are we looking for?
Race equity consultants will work alongside evaluators and researchers commissioned by YEF. We hope this will achieve two interconnected objectives:

To support YEF in embedding a race equity perspective in all its research and evaluations.

To increase the diversity of researchers contributing to the design and execution of YEF research and evaluations.
We are interested in applicants from a range of sectors, including research, academia, funding, government, and community engagement.
We are particularly interested in hearing from applicants who have practical experience of informing and especially driving race equity within evaluations and research. Whilst we are interested in hearing from people with a broad range of perspectives on evaluation and research, experience of working on impact evaluations such as randomised control trials and quasi-experimental designs would be an advantage.
Applicants can be freelancers, sole contractors or working as part of organisations, provided they can commit to a minimum involvement of five days on any evaluation or research project they are commissioned to support.
In summary, we are keen to hear from individuals or organisations with experience of some or all the following:

The Direct Marketing Manager, Retention, is a newly developed role at the DEC, responsible for shaping and delivering new and existing supporter journeys for DEC individual, community and legacy donors, and leading a programme of improvement across all major contact points between the DEC and the public.
The Direct Marketing Manager, Retention will:
- Contribute to and develop DEC direct marketing strategies, including the refreshing, implementation and analysis of the DEC’s segmentation, to maximise future income and continually improve the retention of individual supporters for future emergency appeals,
- Lead on the production of retention and reporting back materials for individual and community supporters,
- Manage the development and maintenance of specific supporter journeys,
- Develop and oversee the materials and supporter positioning for a light touch and mainly reactive legacy marketing programme for the DEC.
Key responsibilities include:
Strategy and Planning
- Develop and implement the direct marketing retention strategy, ensuring that past learnings are built upon, and new ideas are tested.
- Develop and implement specific audience journeys for segments across both the life cycle of a DEC appeal and between appeals.
- Ensure timely and relevant communications to all direct marketing, community, and legacy audiences on the impact of their donations.
- Build an improved supporter journey strategy for new, repeat, and lapsed donors.
- Lead, design, and monitor the collection of audience insight during appeals.
Fundraising
- Develop the DEC’s donor journeys for individuals and community supporters, monitoring the development of segments and the engagement of repeat donors.
- Provide analysis during and following an appeal of performance to measure and report performance against key indicators and develop recommendations for improving impact in the next appeal.
- Support the stewardship of community fundraisers and groups in conjunction with the Supporter Services team.
Networking and building relationships
- Develop excellent working relationships with the DEC’s suppliers including creative agencies, media agencies, SMS and email suppliers, and the print/mailing house.
- Work with permanent and temporary staff at the DEC during appeals to maximise the success of the appeal.
