What You’ll Do:
- Ensure high-quality care in line with our policies and Christian values;

Role Summary
Our Communications Officer plays a key role in our central Communications team, working collaboratively with colleagues to create impactful messages which are consistent, clear and well-framed. Through this work, you’ll support thousands of people across three key work programmes – Behaviour Change, Culture Shift and Information and Advice. You’ll have a particular focus on supporting people to share their experiences by working empathetically to gather and develop a diverse range of compelling personal stories on alcohol and alcohol harm, and working with colleagues to bring them to life across our channels. You’ll also play a key role in supporting the Senior Communications Manager with messaging across emails, our website and other digital channels. You will have knowledge of legal, quality and safeguarding frameworks and experience of managing safeguarding issues. You will be solution focussed, providing positive leadership and working as part of our dedicated, friendly management team.
In this developing role, you’ll be able to think strategically and be comfortable being hands on. Initially your focus will be increasing our existing mediation service and separated parents support and managing a small team of practitioners, and then setting up child contact centre services (in line with our NACCC Accreditation) and recruiting new staff and volunteers.
Flexibility in working hours to meet service needs and manage risk or safety concerns is needed and some evening hours may be required and some travelling to other offices and external meeting will be necessary. Ideally it’s a full-time (37.5 hours per week), but we are open to 4 days or part time working arrangements for the right person.

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE
Beacon, now in its second decade of operation, has experienced substantial growth over the last three years, including an organisational rebrand and expansion into international projects. We are now recruiting a Senior Patient and Scientific Engagement Officer to play a central role in delivering ambitious projects that put patients at the heart of translational research.
This role sits at the crossroads of patient involvement and scientific communication, building meaningful collaborations between patients, researchers, and other stakeholders. You’ll provide essential operational support and subject expertise to ensure projects run smoothly and reflect the real-world needs of the rare disease community.
You will contribute primarily to two of Beacon’s major collaborative initiatives: REMEDi4ALL, a European-wide drug repurposing platform with over 25 partner organisations, and the LifeArc Translational Research Centres for Rare Disease (LifeArc TrC4RD), a UK-wide partnership. In this role, you will work directly and regularly with partners across these consortia, encompassing patient group leaders, patient representatives, academic researchers, clinical trialists, and beyond. You will act as a vital interface between patients and researchers in both projects, coordinating activities, facilitating collaboration, and embedding patient perspectives throughout the work. While these will be your main focus, you will also support other initiatives across the charity, particularly those aimed at advancing scientific understanding of rare diseases and strengthening patient involvement in research.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Your main responsibilities will span aspects of project delivery, stakeholder engagement, and patient-centred scientific support. In this role, you will:
