JOB PURPOSE

UK for UNHCR (UK4U), the UN Refugee Agency's national charity partner, is looking for a Writer. We are a small but high-performing team with big ambitions.

As a team player, you will work with colleagues across Private Partnerships and Philanthropy (PPH), Communications and UNHCR global.

Passionate about the refugee cause and UNHCR’s contribution, you will have prior experience of writing for philanthropic audiences.

This role is integral to the development of the Private Partnerships and Philanthropy (PPH) programme. You will work collaboratively across the PPH team and with international colleagues drawing on a diverse range of content to develop high quality compelling assets which convey our organisational story and priority needs. These assets may be written tailored propositions, investment cases, impact reports, budgets and other creative materials.

Role Responsibilities  

The role operates primarily as an in-house writing and strategic support function, focused on the organisation’s highest-level donors and priority audiences.

Key responsibilities include:

• Taking the lead on drafting and delivering a bi-annually Philanthropy newsletter for existing donors and selected prospects, strengthening stewardship and positioning UNHCR’s philanthropic offer.
• Supporting the cultivation and stewardship of priority relationships through the development of bespoke, high-quality and strategically aligned concept notes, proposals, cases for support, business cases, and stewardship/impact reports for Corporate partners, Major Donors, Trusts and Philanthropists.
• Producing high value external communications for philanthropists & corporate partners, including CEO comms and timely email updates sharing relevant news and insights.
• Acting as a trusted internal service, working with colleagues to shape clear, consistent, and donor-focused narratives
• Developing trusted relationships with internal stakeholders across Partnerships & Philanthropy and relevant international colleagues to ensure messaging is accurate, aligned consistent, and reflects the supporter’s motivations and interests.
• Remaining flexible and responsive to emergency situations, supporting the development of targeted materials for priority audiences as required.
• Maintaining a bank of high quality, ready-to-use fundraising and stewardship materials to enable rapid response to new opportunities, including summaries of core thematic areas and flagship initiatives.
• Working closely with Communications colleagues to help position UNHCR’s philanthropic ambitions across external channels, including digital and social platforms. This includes occasional content development, reactive writing, and updating sections of the Philanthropy and Partnerships webpage.
• Managing deadlines effectively by setting clear priorities and timelines for drafting, review, approval, and dissemination.
• Staying up to date on issues affecting displaced communities, key campaigns, international priorities, and field-based reporting to ensure credibility and relevance.
• Maintaining strong awareness of organisational priorities and key fundraising moments throughout the year to support donor progression.
• Continuously improving ways of working by reviewing and refining processes, coordination, and core materials.
• Supporting the development of additional fundraising and stewardship materials as required by the line manager.

We are seeking a Health and Science Information Manager to lead the development of highquality health information and research communications for people affected by polycystic kidney disease (PKD). This is an exciting opportunity to shape how individuals access, understand and engage with trusted information throughout their journey, from diagnosis and day-to-day management, to the latest scientific and clinical research developments. In this role, you will oversee our extensive portfolio of patient information resources, ensuring all content is accurate, accessible, evidence-based and aligned with the PIF TICK quality standard. You will identify opportunities to create new and engaging resources that meet the evolving needs of the PKD community, using innovative approaches to improve how information is delivered across multiple channels. A key part of the role will be translating complex scientific and medical research into clear, compelling and patient-friendly content. You will help increase awareness of clinical research opportunities, communicate emerging developments in PKD science, and support greater understanding of how research can shape future treatments and care. RESPONSIBILITIES:

Health information management and quality:

• Support the development and management of the PKD Charity’s health information portfolio across digital and print platforms

• Ensure all content meets PIF TICK standards, including robust processes for development, review, updating and governance

• Maintain oversight of the full information catalogue, ensuring content is accurate, consistent and aligned with current clinical guidance

• Work with clinicians, researchers, and people with lived experience to co-produce and review content Content development and user need

Content development and user need:

• Identify gaps in current provision and lead the development of new information resources

• Ensure content is clear, accessible, inclusive, and tailored to the needs of different audiences

• Use patient insight, feedback and data to continuously improve the quality and usability of information Innovation in information deliver.

Research and science communication:

We’re looking for a Communications Officer with experience in marketing and communications who will be part of a high-paced communications team working to engage with Christians and churches in London and beyond.

The successful candidate will:

Oversee the full production cycle of the quarterly Together prayer guide

• Together is LCM’s quarterly prayer guide, sent to thousands of supporters and used daily within the mission. It is a key point of connection between supporters and missionaries, shaping how people pray for gospel work across London.

Plan and oversee the weekly LCM online prayer meetings

• Every Tuesday evening, supporters from across the UK and beyond meet on Zoom to hear from a missionary and pray for gospel work. These online meetings have become a valued community, especially for those who cannot easily meet missionaries in person.

Support missionaries in engaging their supporters more effectively

• Missionaries rely on communities of Christians who pray, encourage, and give. Their LCM web pages help supporters understand their ministry and stay connected. The Communications Officer helps ensure these profiles are compelling, accurate, and regularly refreshed, supporting missionaries in presenting their work clearly and confidently.

Create fresh content for LCM’s communications channels

• LCM provides practical, frontline insights to equip Christians in sharing their faith, especially with marginalised communities. Throughout the year, the Communications Officer contributes written content — producing blogs, stories, and practical guidance that support and encourage believers, alongside social media content that helps extend reach.

Lead occasional cross team communications projects

• The Communications Team supports the wider organisation, regularly producing promotional materials for teams such as Training, Church Partnerships, and Supporter Partnerships.

Contribute creative ideas to shape communications and marketing content

• The Communications and Marketing Team is collaborative, creative, and committed to inspiring Christians across the UK! The Communications Officer contributes actively to idea generation — taking part in brainstorms, workshops, and planning sessions to help develop fresh, engaging approaches for external audiences.

The successful candidate will be a committed, prayerful evangelical Christian, with:

• At least 2 years' experience in a communications or marketing role (ideally with churches or church-based charities), delivering a range of integrated marketing and communications activities to engage different audiences.
• Strong grasp of branding principles and techniques and how to apply these in communications and marketing work.
• Ability to work proactively using own initiative, prioritise work and meet deadlines, with well-developed time management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the proven ability to write and produce engaging communications for a range of channels and audiences.
• Experience of evaluating communications or marketing activities.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and communicate with a wide range of people.

This is a part-time role (0.4 FTE) with an expectation to work 2 days per week (16 hours per week), and a minimum of 1-day in the office per week. The position is a maternity cover position and will be offered on the basis of a 12-month fixed-tern contract.

Along with our Marketing and Comms Leads, you will be responsible for our brand, storytelling, content strategy, and creative outputs - originating concepts, internal design work, and driving conversion - ensuring that everything we do reflects our values, amplifies our impact, and deepens our reach across the cultural and climate landscape. You’ll play a key role in supporting our impact by leading our day to day communications delivery.

This will involve deputising for some of the (part time) Marketing and Comms Leads delivery on days when they are not present and contributing across the whole portfolio of work at JB.

This digital-first role includes a strong focus on content development, storytelling, and delivering varied communication campaigns. You’ll be responsible for independently creating, repurposing and distributing engaging content in a consistent voice across our digital channels. Alongside our Marketing Lead and Communications Lead, you will ensure our insights, tools, and narratives are warm, purpose-focused, clear, accessible, and optimised for reach and engagement. You will be someone who thrives on the combination of co-shaping strategic ideas and plans while driving hands-on effective delivery.

As a confident marcomms expert, you will liaise directly with our partner organisations to co-create communications, support joint campaigns, and boost JB’s voice in the broader climate and culture movement. This will involve growing our audiences, media contacts and networks, including welcoming new cultural organisations, creative practitioners, environmental partners, and funders into our network. This role needs a strategic, proactive and flexible individual with enthusiasm for and significant experience of marketing and/or communications.

You will be part of a small Marketing and Communications team and work closely with the rest of JB’s 20-person, supportive and mission-driven team.

Key Responsibilities

Content, Socials & Campaigns

• Lead on the development of timely, engaging, inclusive content across all JB’s digital channels (including copy-writing across channels, website, newsletters and social media).
• Lead on a JB bulletin strategy, with pre-planned themes aligning with our aims and a readership growth plan (working closely with our Marketing Lead and CRM manager) as well as leading on the writing, preparing and distributing segmented bulletins for the sector and key programmes (with content support from across the team).
• Maintain, manage and optimise editorial calendars that reflect our programmes, partnerships, research, and events and regularly engage the programme leads in the process.
• Alongside the Comms and Marketing Leads, oversee and support the production, publication, marketing, distribution and evaluation of JB’s full range of content including podcasts, films, events, briefings, reports, guides and resource libraries related to the climate, nature and justice crisis, ensuring appropriate tone and key messages.
• Leading on the production of marketing and comms packs for outreach on key events and announcements, including associated thought-leadership pieces, and the production of a public annual report.
• Ensure all content is optimised for audience growth, accessibility, and search (SEO, GEO), working closely with our Marketing Lead who leads on our overall web and marketing strategies.
• Sharing responsibility for driving forwards our social media strategy and developing, designing, and scheduling engaging content on social media, working closely with our Social Media Manager and wider marcomms team.
• Receptive, reactive community engagement on social media, including social listening, and supportive and timely responses.
• With support from the Marketing Lead and working very closely with the Programme Coordinator, take ownership of embedding accessibility best practice for events, marketing and across all communications, including preparing transcriptions and integrating captions and alt text, large format materials, audio description and accessible slideshows.
• Managing and optimising JB’s YouTube channel, including the creation of post-event assets to be published across the website.

CRM, Partnerships & Audience Development

• Taking responsibility for the day to day management and maintenance of JB’s newly implemented CRM, ensuring audience segmentation according to latest data protection, use and access requirements (with support from JB’s dedicated CRM Manager, Marketing Lead, and Digital Champions).
• Nurturing relationships with relevant networks and partners, identifying and collating regular updates and opportunities.
• Collaborate with cultural, environmental, and funding partners to co-create engaging shared messaging, campaigns, and communications assets to bring in new business opportunities.

Brand, Creative & Strategy

• Jointly responsible for brand implementation when deputising for Marketing and Comms Leads, ensuring coherence of messaging and tone across all channels and materials. 
• Draft internal and external reference guides for JB’s work, including the preparation of marketing and comms packs for outreach on key events and announcements and the production of a public annual report.
• Take a data-led approach to maximise impact of our marketing and communications, including managing regular marketing and events evaluation, feedback, surveys and audience and engagement analysis. 
• Ensure Julie’s Bicycle’s story, brand, voice, and impact are clearly represented in all collaborations and public-facing materials.

• Extensive experience (ideally a minimum of five years) in a managerial communications and/or marketing role, ideally within the cultural, environmental, or non-profit sectors.

As Research Communications Manager, you will set the direction for research communications, developing new ways to creatively showcase the breadth and impact of the research we fund to inform and engage diverse audiences.

You will lead how research is communicated beyond the Motor Neurone Disease Association, using owned and earned platforms, ensuring it is accurate, accessible and relevant. As Research Communications Manager, you will identify opportunities and develop new ways to strengthen understanding of MND research among stakeholders and the public. This is a new role which will rely on collaboration and building strong relationships particularly with research, communications and digital engagement colleagues.

Your work as Research Communications Manager will help people understand motor neurone disease research updates and initiatives, deepening engagement across communities and supporters.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the planning and delivery of external research communications across owned and earned channels
• Develop research messages, content and use of channels based on audience needs
• Champion the involvement of people affected by MND in how we communicate about research
• Create engaging content that highlights the impact of MND research funded by the MND Association and others
• Work with press and research colleagues on media enquiries and proactive coverage
• Build strong partnerships with the Research and Innovation Directorate
• Develop clear processes to support consistent, high quality and inspiring research content
• Support media training and briefing of research spokespeople
• Line manage a Communications Officer (Research) and support ongoing development

About You

• Experience translating complex scientific or research information for non-specialist audiences
• Professional writing or journalism with understanding of media and public relations processes
• Degree-level knowledge or equivalent experience in a scientific field
• Experience managing a Communications function and delivering research communications, ideally within a health charity or similar setting
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills and relationship building experience across internal and external teams
• Excellent organisation skills and confidence managing priorities

Hybrid working expectations: Attend Northampton office one day per week

In this role, you will work closely with colleagues in the Social Value Team, the Charities Liaison Team and wider Group functions, playing a key part in ensuring our initiatives continue to improve lives and places. You will assist LHCPG’s Group and Regional Business Units in implementing the broader Social Value Strategy across our products, services and projects, whilst collaborating with associate partners and companies planning community projects and supporting them to report on the outcomes of their social value plans.

• Helping develop policies, procedures, tools and resources for social value management and reporting
• Gathering data to report on achievements and social impact

This fixed term position will support Scotland and the North of England and will involve regular travel throughout the regions. The successful candidate will be expected to offer hands-on support in various locations and collaborating with teams and clients across multiple regions. The proposed start date will be in July 2026 and is expected to cover up to 12 months.

We are looking for a candidate with strong interpersonal abilities, capable of collaborating and engaging effectively with various teams and stakeholders at all levels. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent attention to detail, possess outstanding verbal and written communication skills and evidence proficiency in IT, including familiarity with relevant systems and software packages.  You can confidently present content to colleagues and clients and turn strategic plans into measurable results.  You will also have: 

• A degree in a relevant subject or relevant experience in corporate socialresponsibilityor social impact and innovation
• Knowledge of social value approaches and measurement frameworks used in the public sector
• Demonstrable understanding of the importance of social value

About you

This role reports to the Chief Communications Officer and will requires collaborative working with members of the Society's governance structure and the Heads of Scientific Programmes and Development Opportunities respectively, responsible for creating and delivering the society's overall communication strategy across all channels including social media and website, overseeing policy and membership engagement activities, promoting member expertise to policymakers in the UK and internationally and encourage member engagement through opportunities the Society's 'Get Involved' campaign.

The postholder will have experience working within science communication, displaying strong scientific knowledge while delivering high impact engagement campaigns. It is essential to have experience in People Management as this role oversees the different branches of the Engagement and Storytelling theme covering Communication, Policy and Membership.
