Role description

As we begin to grow, we’re looking for a highly experienced Head of Finance & Compliance to ensure best-in-class financial governance, statutory obligations, and operational compliance.

This is a senior, hands-on role ideal for someone who has worked in a similar capacity within the charity or social enterprise sector. You’ll take ownership of our financial reporting, charity and company filings, risk management processes, and ensure we’re meeting all regulatory requirements — so our team can focus on delivery with confidence.

Key responsibilities

Finance

• Oversee day-to-day financial processes, working closely with external accountants.

• Lead budgeting and forecasting processes alongside the CEO.

• Monitor cash flow, manage financial risk, and prepare internal finance reports for the Board.

• Ensure timely and accurate preparation of annual accounts and external audit process.

• Support fundraising by preparing financial inputs for grant proposals and reports.

Governance & Compliance

• Act as Company Secretary: manage Board meetings, minutes, filings, and statutory record-keeping.

• Ensure full compliance with Companies House, Charity Commission, HMRC, and other statutory bodies.

• Maintain and update key internal policies (e.g. safeguarding, data protection, finance policy).

• Support risk register maintenance and ensure appropriate insurance coverage.

• Work closely with the CEO on contract management and legal compliance.

What we're looking for

• Significant experience in a senior finance, governance, or company secretarial role in the charity or non-profit sector.

• Strong working knowledge of UK charity finance and regulatory obligations. The organisation will be making grants from an early stage, so experience with grant-giving will be highly valuable.

• Excellent attention to detail, reliability, and professional integrity.

• Confident managing external advisers and auditors.

• Comfort with ambiguity and excitement at the prospect of an entrepreneurial, mission-driven organisation

• Passion for improving numeracy, providing opportunity, and social impact.

• Relevant qualifications (e.g. ICSA, ACCA, ACA, or CIPFA) are desirable but not essential if equivalent experience is demonstrated.

About you

About the role

The role will involve the management of the day-to-day financial activities, VAT, gift aid, payroll and the monthly, quarterly and annual reconciliations and statutory accounts preparation. The job holder will work closely with the Chief Operating Officer, Finance Officer and volunteers within the team. There will be a requirement to work closely with the income generating staff, budget holders, auditors, banks and credit card providers on a regular basis. The Finance Manager will be responsible for managing the Finance Officer and Finance volunteer.

Key Responsibilities

1. IT Coordination

About the team 

The Data Operations Team sits within the wider Supporter Experience and Operations team, within the Mass Engagement Department at WaterAid. The team is responsible for enabling a high-quality supporter experience through best in class data operations, ensuring tasks are effectively managed across the team. This role leads on all aspects of data imports, Direct Debit processing and Gift Aid claims, enabling WaterAid UK to maximise its fundraising potential, ensuring compliance with financial and data regulations and maintaining high data quality standards.

About the role 

As our Data Operations Manager, you will ensure the accuracy and efficient management of data imports and core income processes such as the Direct Debit and Gift Aid claims. You will work closely with key stakeholders in Performance and Insight, Finance and Mass Engagement to drive sustainable change.

In this role, you will: 

• Manage the day-to-day data operations (including data imports, Direct Debit submissions, submitting Gift Aid claims to HMRC)
• Line Manage two Data Operations Officers, providing support, coaching and mentoring 
• Manage the workload and responsibilities of the Data Operations Team, ensuring that tasks are carried out on schedule and within agreed SLAs 
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy through automation or system enhancements 
• Build strong operational relationships with key stakeholders in the Data Engineering and CRM teams, as well as with WaterAid’s third party agencies, to identify areas for improvements and rapid problem fixing, particularly in relation to managing data rejects 
• Champion WaterAid’s commitment to equity, inclusion and safeguarding. 

Requirements

To be successful, you will need: 

• Excellent problem solving and communication skills 
• Strong experience of using relational database packages and working with large and complex data sets 
• Experience of leading, managing and motivating others and driving change 
• Experience of measuring and reporting on team performance against Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) 
• Experience of using SQL 
• Knowledge of BACS, Direct Debit and Gift Aid HMRC regulations 

Although not essential, we’d prefer you to have: 

• Good working knowledge of the architecture and functionality of Microsoft Dynamics 365 
• Demonstrable experience in Direct Debit and Gift Aid processing 
• Experience using Azure DevOps

Every 20 minutes, someone is killed or seriously injured on UK roads. For families affected, the emotional and practical challenges are immense. As a Caseworker, you will provide direct, trauma-informed care to individuals and families suffering from the sudden bereavement or life-altering injury of a loved one. Working mostly remotely, with home visits to service users, you’ll offer vital emotional and practical support—including helping them access therapeutic resources, financial assistance, and guidance through the complexities of medical and legal processes.

This role is flexible, allowing you to structure your own working pattern within weekdays from 8AM to 6PM. While travel is required, you’ll have control over your diary. The work is challenging but immensely rewarding, requiring resilience, empathy, and a dedication to making a real difference in people’s lives.

Key Responsibilities

• Providing direct support to road victims and their families in the North Yorkshire  region, following Brake’s trauma-informed model of care.
• Managing a caseload of service users, ensuring their emotional, practical, and advocacy needs are met.
• Undertaking comprehensive needs assessments and creating individualised support plans
• Offering emotional and practical support—this can include helping families access therapeutic resources, financial aid, or even facilitating keepsakes to honour the memory of their loved ones
• Liaising with professionals, including police officers, Family Liaison Officers, mental health services, coroners, GPs, and other support organisations.
• Advocating for victims within medical, legal, and social services to ensure their voices are heard.
• Providing support through multiple channels, including in-person, remote calls, video chats, and messaging, depending on service user preferences.
• Completing safeguarding assessments and escalating concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead when needed.
• Maintaining accurate case records in compliance with data protection policies.
• Engaging in external clinical supervision to manage personal resilience and well-being.
• Participating in team meetings, training, and professional development to ensure the highest standard of service delivery.
