Job description

ClientEarth is looking for a Head of Business Development. We are a non-profit that uses the power of the law to bring about end-to-end systemic change: informing, implementing and enforcing the law, drafting and advising decision-makers on policy, building legal expertise, and ensuring citizens' access to the laws that defend them.

In this newly created role, you will be leading ClientEarth's Business Development team, and leading on identifying and securing new income from trusts, foundations and other statutory and institutional funders. You will be working across all of ClientEarth's programme teams and regional offices, establishing new funder relationships, developing winning proposals, and ensuring a growing and diverse funder base for ClientEarth.

You will also be supporting the Global Director of Development in the development and implementation of the organisation's next fundraising strategy, which aims to scale up ClientEarth's work in continental Europe, US and Asia.

This is a global role that is expected to manage a fast growing funder portfolio and requires working with funders from Europe, the US and Asia, and ClientEarth offices around the world.

In this role, your main duties will include:

  • Leading on our global expansion into new fundraising territories in Europe, US and Asia
  • Setting the organisation's fundraising strategy
  • Translating objectives and targets into annual plans with the team
  • Managing the team effectively staff have support and are empowered to lead on their funding portfolios

Role requirements

  • Significant business development and income generation management experience, including experience managing multi-year and seven-figure proposals with complex funders
  • Good knowledge of international foundations, institutional, and statutory income streams
  • Excellent knowledge of relationship management, identifying prospects, and translating prospects into funders
  • Good strategic thinker, with the ability to undertake strategic planning
  • Strong influencing ability and gravitas for internal and external engagement
  • Ability to understand and analyse budgets and financial information thoroughly
