Job description

The Executive Director is an externally facing role, responsible for growing DIVA’s income, partnerships, and impact. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and dynamic leader to build on our iconic brand and deliver for LGBTQIA+ women and non binary people in the UK and globally.

A key aspect of the role will be to continue growing DIVA’s network of partners, corporate sponsors, and donors. The ED will work with the Board of Trustees to drive the future strategy and lead a small editorial and design team.

Core Responsibilities

·Act as the public face of DIVA, and support the wider team (including Board, Patrons, and colleagues) to represent DIVA to key audiences.

·Work with the Board to set and deliver the strategy for DIVA Charitable Trust and be accountable for ensuring its implementation and the appropriate governance of the charity.

·Lead on fundraising for DIVA Charitable Trust, growing our sponsorship and partnership income and establishing new charitable donation and grant-based funding streams.

·Oversee the planning and delivery of Lesbian Visibility Week, continuing to grow its global reach, and work with the team to develop new flagship projects.

·Oversee the delivery of an engaging, high quality and creative magazine in both print and digital formats, and develop a marketing strategy to increase magazine sales

·Manage the DIVA team and oversee operations at DIVA Charitable Trust, including leading on the financial strategy and business plan.

We are seeking a Business Development Manager to help us realise our plans to secure a menu of commercial contracts that all of our 175+ member library services can choose to benefit from, according to the skills and assets of their service, their focus and strategy and of course the needs of their communities.

Our Commercial Team

Currently we hold a single commercial contract worth around £3m per year delivered through 12 libraries. Our aim is to reach a point where we have a menu of commercial contracts that all of our 175+ member library services can choose to benefit from according to the skills and assets of their service, their focus and strategy and of course the needs of their communities.

In the current funding climate for local authorities and local government services, these contracts are not just about the income and the services they can provide, but about demonstrating nationally the power of the library sector, and how national services can be delivered locally through library services and the communities they serve.

This is a long term aim of ours – we are seeking to build the commercial team with this role and while it is initially a 12 month contract, our hope is that with the role in place we can generate the income to sustain and build on it.

Main purpose of role: 

• Support the delivery of commercial projects across the library sector
• Lead the bidding process for new contracts and services
• Manage the mobilisation and setup of contracts and services
• Manage the ongoing delivery of commercial contracts and services including management reporting and contract / service optimisation to increase benefit to the libraries and sector
• Support the development of commercial skills and capacity across the library sector

The Role

Job Purpose

This role is a senior leadership team member and strategic lead for all corporate and consumer communications, member business engagement and marketing.

The relationship with our business community is essential to the success of The Fitzrovia Partnership (TFP) and the delivery of the organisation’s vision and it is a key part of our strategy to ensure that businesses are aware of us and the services and projects we deliver. As such you would be responsible for the delivery of member engagement.

You will lead the marketing and communications function and manage the Marcomms team, continually developing and implementing effective marketing and communications strategies clearly articulating TFP’s vision, aims, projects and services.

Finally, you will provide strategic oversight and development for:

· Member communication strategy including BID renewal communications

· Consumer communications and campaigns strategy

· Social, wellbeing, member event and training programmes

· All communications channels including newsletter, websites, social media

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Senior Leadership

· To play a role together with the CEO and the Director of Policy and Place in setting the overall vision of the organisation and ensuring delivery specifically in relation to the agreed business plan.

· Have a key role working closely with the Board and relevant sub-groups.

· To represent the organisation publicly as required, and step in for the CEO as required.

Member Engagement

· Driving, developing and ensuring implementation of the member engagement strategy.

· Ensuring effective account management contact with member businesses.

• Overseeing market research and consultation such as surveys, customer questionnaires and focus groups to inform the development of plans, projects and services.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Programme Operations Manager is responsible for the operational delivery of our programmes being delivered to young people aged 8-19. This role ensures consistent, high-quality service provision through effective team leadership and comprehensive oversight of programme activities.

Key responsibilities include direct management of the youth work team and supervision of programme implementation to maintain service standards aligned with organisational values. The postholder ensures operational effectiveness through resource allocation, staff support, and robust quality assurance processes.

Working alongside the Programme Development Manager, this position translates organisational objectives into practical programme delivery through systematic implementation and monitoring. The role involves providing youth workers with appropriate resources and professional support to achieve optimal outcomes for young people.

The Programme Operations Manager contributes to organisational decision-making whilst maintaining hands-on programme management. This balance ensures service delivery meets established standards and regulatory requirements.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Quality Assurance and Standards Management

· Support the Programme Development Manager to develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive quality assurance frameworks for all youth programmes, ensuring consistent delivery of high standards across all activities.

· Establish quality indicators and performance metrics for programme delivery, conducting regular monitoring and evaluation to ensure continuous improvement.

· Design and implement quality audit procedures, conducting systematic reviews of programme delivery, facilities, and resource utilisation.

● Collaborate with the Engagement, Communities and Culture Manager to monitor programme attendance, engagement levels, and participant outcomes, implementing strategies to maximise positive impact.

● Collaborate with the Programme Development Manager to ensure all programmes operate within approved budgets, monitoring expenditure and resource utilisation.

● Coordinate programme scheduling, space allocation, and resource distribution to maximise efficiency and participant experience.

● Implement risk management procedures for all programme activities, always ensuring health and safety compliance.

● Collaborate with the Programme Development Manager to oversee marketing and recruitment activities for programmes, working with relevant teams to ensure optimal participation levels.

Safeguarding and Compliance

● Ensure that full compliance with safeguarding policies and procedures are adhered to.

● Implement comprehensive safeguarding training for all team members, maintaining records and ensuring regular updates.

● Manage safeguarding incidents and concerns.  In the absence of the Designated Safeguarding Leads liaise with external agencies including social services, police, and other statutory bodies.

● Monitor and maintain health and safety standards across all programme areas, conducting regular risk assessments and safety audits.

● Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, including data protection, health and safety, and equality requirements.

Data Management and Reporting

● Oversee collection, analysis, and reporting of programme data, ensuring accuracy and compliance with funder requirements.

● Contribute to the preparation of regular reports for leadership team, funders, and external stakeholders on programme performance and quality indicators.

● Maintain comprehensive records of all programme activities, participant outcomes, and quality assurance measures.

● Implement feedback mechanisms for participants, parents, and stakeholders, using insights to drive continuous improvement.

Partnership and Stakeholder Management

● Develop and maintain relationships with local schools, community organisations, and partner agencies.

● Represent the organisation at multi-agency meetings and sector networks, promoting collaborative approaches to youth work, as required.

● Coordinate with external providers delivering services within AYP premises, ensuring quality standards are maintained.

● Build positive relationships with parents and carers, maintaining regular communication about programme delivery and young people's progress.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES 

· In conjunction with your Line Manager to continuously develop the role to ensure that all tasks are being undertaken in an effective and appropriate manner which meets the strategic aims and objectives of The Avenues. 

· Participate in internal/external meetings as required, and attend training events, conferences, and other functions as necessary. 

· Participate in regular supervision and annual appraisal and help in identifying your own job-related development and training needs.

About this role

As a Communications Manager your responsibilities would include: -

About you

The Role

We’re looking for experienced, energetic and confident freelance facilitators to help us deliver our tried-and-tested activities — from team-building and orienteering to improv games, problem-solving challenges, debates, archery, and axe throwing. We don’t expect anyone to be experienced in all of these - every member of our team of freelancers has their own areas of expertise and choose to be deployed on particular activities that most suit their skills and experience.

You’ll be working with a diverse range of schools, from primary and prep schools, right through secondary to sixth forms, facilitating sessions to inspire teamwork, communication, resilience, and leadership.

You’ll always be working on a day under the guidance of one of our Founder Directors, Tom and Alex. 

Important to know

We are looking for freelancers who may be available for work and who fit our ethos, values and activities to whom we can offer as and when it comes in. 

We couldn’t do what we do without our core team of trusted freelancers. We look after those we work with by offering regular training and observation opportunities so they can expand their repertoire. 

However, joining our pool of freelancers will not involve a fixed contract of employment or a guarantee of regular work. Our existing freelancers work with us anywhere between 3 - 15 days per/year. Such work offers very useful supplementary income alongside other roles at other organisations (or their own) rather than a core income. Our busiest times of year are:

September — where we deliver team building/bonding days for new year groups

May, June and July — where we deliver similar days but usually as part of school activity weeks

We anticipate further growth at these times, and also are looking to expand our offer to more indoor/lower cost days in the Autumn/Spring term. And to deliver these we will need more staff!

• Confident communicator and able to deliver exceptionally engaging sessions to groups of up to 30 to all ages from KS2 to Sixth Form

• Reliable, punctual, and comfortable arriving at a school to help us set up at 8am, and be packing down with us afterwards

• A big sense of fun and joy in what you do - we don’t do dry

• The ability to relate to young people in a way that isn’t “teacherly” but at the same time firm and in-command

• Strong situational awareness and ability to manage group safety effectively

• Flexible, adaptable, and able to think on your feet to differentiate activities in the moment

At Habitat for Humanity’s upcycling initiative we take things and bring them into the workshop and give them a new lease of life.

Overview  

Habitat for Humanity GB (HFHGB) engages corporate volunteers in practical upcycling workshops as part of its social impact programme. These workshops involve the restoration or creation of furniture and home goods for people experiencing housing precarity. We are seeking an experienced freelance consultant to manage and deliver this programme on a flexible, per-project basis. 

Less than 2% of social housing actually comes with furniture. Our upcycling workshop aims to part-furnish these properties with high quality repaired and upcycled items and create opportunities for other households and communities experiencing economic hardship to furnish their own space.

We have strong support from the UK public, who are keen to make donations of furniture and materials, as well as support from the UK private sector. This project will combine these offers of support by enabling a creative workshop space where teams of volunteers can be supervised to upcycle donated items. Our upcycling project aims to furnish properties with high quality repaired and upcycled items and create opportunities for other households and communities experiencing economic hardship to furnish their own space. Upcycled furniture also goes to our Restore in Romford which is our Charity DIY shop and a community space for low-income households to purchase essential furniture items and access tailored DIY and construction information to help them make affordable improvements to their home.   

Scope of Services 

The consultant will be contracted to provide services under two categories: 

A. Workshop Delivery (Per Event Basis) 

• Lead upcycling workshops for groups of up to 15 volunteers 

• Demonstrate furniture painting, sanding, or assembly techniques 

• Provide safety briefings and facilitate an inclusive and engaging volunteer experience 

• Ensure venue is prepared (tools, PPE, materials) and tidied post-event 

• Capture basic event data (e.g., attendance, photos, testimonials) 

B. Planning & Admin (Hourly Basis) 

• Liaise with HFHGB staff to scope each workshop 

• Procure or prepare necessary materials (paint, wood, furniture) 

• Coordinate with donors and suppliers on logistics 

• Maintain inventory of workshop tools and supplies 

• Maintain inventory of food/refreshments e.g. water, milk, tea etc

• Support design of new upcycling activities for different skill levels 

Scope of Consultancy 

The Upcycling Programme Consultant will be engaged to deliver HFHGB’s Upcycling Workshops. We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative and supportive individual to fulfil this role. The ideal consultant will have experience working with individuals from a mixture of backgrounds and with different experience levels:

• Overseeing workshop delivery in line with agreed project scope, developing and managing a process to ensure that donated items of furniture are upcycled to a high quality and providing input into volunteer coordination and inductions as agreed. 

• We are looking for someone with the creativity and drive to grow the project and workshop outputs, and existing experience of furniture upcycling, such as varnishing, painting, knowledge of furniture restoration is essential as this is the focus of the existing work.

• There will be times where the Upcycling Programme Consultant will be required contribute to related activities if mutually agreed, such as meeting with various partners and helping with collections or deliveries.

Furniture Upcycling   

• To coordinate with a team of designated supervisors who will oversee day to day upcycling with Corporate Partners, e.g. volunteers. This includes involvement in appointment, oversight and assisting with necessary training for supervisors etc. 

• To develop creative and engaging ideas and processes about what to do with the furniture from start to finish.

• This includes identifying which pieces of furniture will be upcycled for each session, in what way they will be painted and finished and what products will be used. Ultimately creating a process for each piece which supervisors can use in the sessions as a guide for the day and with participants.

• To oversee the donation and collection of stock and materials from partners and donors, including liaising with Restore and procuring from local sources.

• To complete regular stock checks to ensure adequate stock of all items needed to creatively upcycle furniture in available including but not limited to paint, sandpaper, waxes, varnishes, and tools.

Programme Support Activities/Project Logistics and Liaison/Project Co-oridnation. 

• Act as the primary liaison for all Upcycling enquiries, working with suppliers, media and supporters as required. Representing Habitat at workshops, internal and external events with current and potential donors.

• Track and report on expenditure for the project, as agreed with Habitat for Humanity and the Director of Programme Delivery ensuring value for money and adherence to, and review of budget expectations. 

• Facilitate relevant meetings relating to the project, including setting agendas, writing, distributing, and following up on agreed actions.

• Co-ordinate with HFHGB staff to develop all marketing materials using all the charity’s communication channels. 

• Adhere to HFHGB health and safety procedures while on-site. 

• Provide excellent customer service to ensure all stakeholders have a positive experience of the project.

• Evaluate the success and impact of the project by monitoring pieces upcycled and diverted from landfill, and GIK (Gift in kind) donated to support the project, 

• Ensure all registration forms, health and safety and inductions forms are completed and saved according to GDPR practices.

• Ensure before and after photos of the furniture and volunteer involvement on the day is captured and downloaded onto the appropriate system.

• Provide information to ensure the Impact Team can prepare narrative and financial reports required by donors.

Consultant Profile 

The consultant is expected to have: 

• Demonstrable experience in furniture upcycling, including restoration, varnishing, and upholstery. 

• Experience working with volunteers in a workshop or creative environment. 

• Strong organisational skills and ability to deliver on time and within budget. 

• Confidence in liaising with donors, corporate volunteers, and suppliers 

• A current clean UK driving licence and access to transport 

• Experience coordinating creative workshops or similar hands-on activities 

5. Key Deliverables 

• Up to 3 workshops per week (subject to bookings) 

• Basic post-event summary submitted within 5 working days of each session 

• Workshop area maintained in good order 

• Regular inventory updates and re-stocking requests submitted quarterly 

Fees & Payment 

• Workshop Delivery Days: £200/day (inclusive of preparation and facilitation time) 

• Planning/Admin Time: £25/hour (pre-approved, capped per project) 

• Invoicing: Monthly in arrears, based on completed activities and submitted timesheets 

• Payment Terms: Within 30 days of receipt of invoice
