Job description

The role

At the Canal & River Trust, we believe that life is better by water. We take care of 2,000 miles of canals and rivers, and those waterways have a vital role in the health and wellbeing of local communities and economies. Every role here plays its part in transforming our canals and rivers into spaces where local people want to spend time and feel better. And yours is no exception.

Reporting directly to the Head of Marketing & Supporter Development, you’ll take the lead on our individual giving programmes, shaping the way we attract and engage with long-term supporters. If you’re an experienced fundraiser looking to make your mark, then this is a fantastic opportunity to build on our growing individual giving programmes and take them to the next level.

The role comes with a wide range of responsibilities – everything from developing supporter journeys to ensuring care and engagement programmes are fit-for-purpose and efficiently run. You’ll also need to build strong relationships with people inside and outside the Trust, while leading, motivating and developing a highly skilled professional team.

What we look for

To develop individual giving programmes that inspire colleagues, trustees and supporters alike, you’ll need to be able to draw on extensive fundraising and direct marketing expertise. This should include experience of overseeing individual giving fundraising strategies and campaigns, developing supporter journeys and managing care and engagement programmes. You’ll also need proven experience of leading a multi-disciplinary fundraising team.

We’re looking for a natural leader who combines a strategic mindset with a hands-on work ethic, and who knows how to leverage data, insights and other people’s expertise in order to secure excellent results. Other important qualities we’re looking for include creative thinking, a love of numbers and great networking and relationship-building skills.

The impact you’ll have

The waterways our charity looks after contribute to the health and wellbeing of local communities and economies, creating attractive and connected places to live, work, volunteer and spend leisure time. These historic, natural and cultural assets form part of the strategic and local green-blue infrastructure network, linking urban and rural communities as well as habitats. Our waterways are on the doorstep of 8 million people and reach some of the most deprived communities within the UK. By caring for our waterways and promoting their use we believe we can improve the wellbeing of our nation. Come and be part of it.

Our diversity

We aim to represent the diverse communities we are part of and welcome applicants from across all sectors of the community. We strongly believe that a diverse workforce brings with it a diversity of ideas, thinking and ways of working which enhances what we do.
