The Diocese of Guildford is seeking a gifted and collaborative Training Lead to coordinate and ensure delivery of high‑quality training for clergy, licensed lay ministers and parish leadership teams across the diocese.
As the Training Lead, you will be a key member of the St Martha’s College (SMC) team. St Martha’s College is at the heart of ministerial formation within the diocese, bringing together a growing range of training pathways including Foundations in Ministry, Occasional Courses, IME2, CMD, Clergy Wellbeing, and leadership development. This role plays a vital part in ensuring these programmes are coordinated, accessible and effective.
The Role
Some of the Key Responsibilities include:
- Overseeing the planning and delivery of high‑quality training for clergy and lay ministers across the diocese.
- Shape and maintain the diocesan One Training Plan, working closely with Mission Team colleagues and external providers.
- Respond to training needs emerging from the Parish Needs Process and Ministerial Development Reviews.
- Support CMD (Continuing Ministerial Development) by helping allocate training allowances and coordinating diocesan training events, including Bishop’s Study Days and conferences.
- Lead the development of St Martha’s new online learning portal and line‑manage the E‑Learning Coordinator.
- Build and maintain a network of external resources and providers to help direct individuals to appropriate training.
- Manage communications with parishes, clergy and chaplaincies to ensure training opportunities are clearly and effectively promoted.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Is skilled in planning, coordinating and managing multiple activities to time and budget
- Has experience designing and delivering training programmes.
- Is highly organised, able to manage multiple activities and work to deadlines.
- Builds strong, credible relationships and works well with clergy, volunteers and colleagues.
- Is confident facilitating groups and communicating clearly.
- Is comfortable recruiting, coordinating and supporting Volunteers.
- Has excellent administrative skills and is proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Understands church life and is committed to supporting ministry and mission.

Resource Mobilisation Team
The Resource Mobilisation team at the Good Ancestor Movement helps liberate and steward financial flows in service of justice, reparation, and systemic change. The team works with wealth holders, funders, and movement partners to design values-aligned redistribution strategies, manage pooled funding vehicles, and co-create tools and practices that shift the culture of wealth. Our work includes grant and investment operations, grantee relationship support, community learning, and strategic resourcing design rooted in equity and care.
About Your Role
As a Resource Mobilisation Lead you will join our Resource Mobilisation team at Good Ancestor Movement in an exciting time for our organisation’s growth. You will be working closely with Kiki Mager, Director of Resource Mobilisation, although you will be working alongside our entire team and contribute to the organisation’s bold aims and ambitions within your role.
After having run 5 cohorts of our political education journey Reimagining Wealth, we launched a trial community of practice for wealth holders collectivising them around a pledge to redistribute. This community of practice is called Catalytic Collective and includes a pooled resourcing vehicle, the Roots Fund, to which members commit funds which are then being redistributed through a participatory governance model, the Accountability Circle, led by movement leaders. We have just completed our first pilot year of this resourcing vehicle including the release of our first round of 3-year funding commitments. To ensure the ongoing feasibility of this vehicle we are looking for a passionate new team member to tend to the ongoing development and scaling of this work.
The Catalytic Collective, Accountability Circle and Roots Fund formed in response to findings of a research and report that we commissioned with Decolonising Economics into Resourcing the Solidarity Economy. This report is the bedrock for our emergent resourcing vehicle and wider organising of wealth holders around wealth redistribution and stewardship practices centred in collective liberation. It also informs our educational programmes, our consultancy offerings and Transformative Investment Practice development.
As our Resource Mobilisation Lead, you will primarily support the management and ongoing development of our resourcing vehicle with Catalytic Collective (CC), the Accountability Circle (AC), the Solidarity Partners (SP) receiving funds and our wider wealthholder community. Your roles here will include:

Liaison with our fiscal host Social Change Nest and ensuring processes and grantees (‘Solidarity Partners’) experiences are in alignment with our mission and intentions.

Relationship management and primary contact for Solidarity Partners

Leading the development and/or fine tuning of a grant management system (GMS) to improve oversight and streamline processes together with one of our movement partners and manage the GMS once implemented, particularly as the number of grants mobilised will increase.

Supporting the AC with admin related tasks like the scheduling of meetings, direction on discussion points and the refinement of their own governance.

Administering CC agreements and resourcing commitments including confirming & signing funding agreements with CC members, sending out reminders about funding cycle renewal and exploring approaches to open up the resourcing pool for wider funders to contribute as a one-off without being a CC member.

Notice, reflect on and feed into ongoing learning and development around the processes and systems in place and what might we need to consider to further improve these in alignment with our vision and mission.

Manage the process of mobilising resources from our wider wealth holder community and others to commit boldly.

Support with story telling proposition and narrative pieces to support building momentum around the resourcing vehicle
Alongside this workstream, you will also:

Steward our Capital Campaigns process to support ad hoc relational and strategic resource mobilisation opportunities meeting needs of aligned organisations in the new and regenerative economy space.

Role Summary

The primary focus of this role is to establish and lead our UK mid-major level (HNWI) donor function alongside our Co-Executive Director. You will be the architect of this new HNWI income stream - researching, qualifying, and securing transformational gifts from scratch.
While philanthropy experience is essential for this role, you will also collaborate with our Development Manager to oversee our established T&F portfolio. We are predominantly seeking strong philanthropy specialists and are happy to provide training on grant applications where needed.

Establish the HNWI Pipeline by leading the proactive research and identification of new UK-based major donors. You will manage the full prospect lifecycle, from cold outreach and initial "discovery" meetings to the final ask and bespoke stewardship.

Conceptualise, launch, and manage a new donor circle (e.g., an 'Impact Club') to create a structured engagement programme for mid to high-level supporters alongside the Co-Executive Director.

Qualifications
Essential:

Purpose of the job:
Management and leadership of the PCS Finance Team and the provison of strategic financial advice to the National Executive Committee and other bodies.
Responsible for the management of the compilation and production of all management accounts, PCS annual audit, budgets, cash-flow and financial planning reports and annual reports.
Responsible for the integrity and completeness of the accounting records, ensuring taxation compliance.
To manage the modernisation of PCS finance system and to work with our providers to introduce digital products to support PCS primary financial accounting management system.
To engage stakeholders and drive strategic change to optimise the efficiency of the financial operations and contribute towards PCS overall strategic direction of the PCS Union.

Main duties and responsibilities
1.People Management
- Manage work allocation and workflow, future planning and support for Finance Team and Director of Central Services
- Motivate and manage individuals and the team as a whole to provide a high standard of service to develop and improve the skills and efficiency of the Finance team
- Check work standards and maintain consistent quality of delegated tasks
- Seek to continuously improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the team
- Through induction, the appraisal system and one-to-ones, identify staff training and development needs, train or organise formal/informal training for the Finance Team
- Proactively promote diversity and inclusion in line with the wider PCS approach
- Apply the staff conduct policies as and when required e.g. discipline, grievance, capability, dignity at work and IT security policies
- Provide advice and deal with complex issues related to staff management including disciplinary or grievance in consultation with line manager
- Ensure that the health, safety and welfare of staff is maintained and improved, in accordance with PCS and statutory policies

2.Strategy and Advice

4.Finance Systems
- Manage the introduction, implementation and continuous monitoring of a new finance system to provide effective budget management at every level of the union
- Provide detailed financial data and reporting, including management accounts and strategic advice, to the National Executive Committee/Senior Management Team
- Provide straightforward access to budgets for all budget holders to facilitate better planning and cash flow management
- Ensure resources are optimised to enable good decision-making across each command area
- Review and update where necessary current audit processes to ensure compliance with the Trade Union Certification Officer
- Provide investment oversight, forecasting, and asset management to the Director of Central Services, and produce relevant information to support spending and investment decisions
- Ensure controls are in place and adhered to, to manage management override risks
- Maintain professional financial relationships with suppliers and customers
5.Operational Management
- Oversee and ensure the integrity of the unions transaction processing at all times
- Ensure all liabilities are recorded, payments made, receipts banked and ledgers managed in line with best practice
- Ensure all service level agreements are adhered to by the Finance department, and developed where necessary
- Ensure data protection adherence and finance systems are secure
- Assist the Director of Central Services in managing relationships with suppliers
6. Group and Branch Funding
- Oversee PCS work with Special Member Auditors to ensure the completion of union group and branch audit procedures in line with rules and Finance Committee requirements
- Provide assistance to group and branch treasurers, including training courses
- Provide reports as required for the Finance Committee
- Ensure expenses are paid in line with Service Level Agreement requirements
7. Finance Training and good practice
- Participate in the dissemination of financial knowledge across the union. Organise and participate in periodic financial training programmes for budget-holders, treasurers and members
8. Communication
- Draft complex communications including briefs, reports, business cases, for internal and external stakeholders
- Draft papers, policies and regulations in relation to financial management
- Communicate with members by producing circulars and briefings, and by addressing meetings and conferences etc
- Represent PCS where necessary and liaise with outside professional bodies such as auditors
- Provide financial information as required by other areas of the Union, in particular treasurers, or other bodies
9. Team Working
