The Public Affairs Assistant will work with the Public Affairs Manager, Director of Policy and Evidence and the Policy and Campaigns Team to help influence decision makers and build stronger relationships with stakeholders, and ensure there is better understanding of the impact that challenges with talking and understanding words can have on a child and young person’s life. 

We are Speech and Language UK (formerly I CAN) – we want every child to face the future with confidence. For 1.9 million children in the UK learning to talk and understand words feels like an impossible hurdle. We want to reach children earlier to make sure every child has the skills to face the future. We design innovative tools and training for staff in schools and settings, give families the confidence and skills to help their child and put pressure on politicians to prioritise support for children.

The post-holder will:

· Provide the administrative support to the Speech, Language and Communication Alliance playing a key role in support the charity to foster stronger relationships with key partners

· Support the Public Affairs Manager in dissemination of briefings and correspondence with parliamentarians and civil servants, including setting up meetings

· Attend meetings as required, both in person and online to facilitate record keeping and liaison

· Maintain the Microsoft Team and SharePoint sites so that documents and notes are securely stored and accessible and version control is maintained.

The purpose of your role

There will 3 key parts to your role as a HR & Recruitment Coordinator:

• Supporting the recruitment cycle – Who we bring into Police Now's Head Office (PNHQ) is one of the most important decisions we make in terms of driving forward our mission. You will be closely involved with the complete candidate journey, ensuring candidates feel supported throughout the process. This will include supporting with sourcing applicants, liaising with hiring managers, assessing candidates, and greeting candidates during the interview process.
• Onboarding of new starters – Once recruited it's important that our new starters have the best possible start to their time at Police Now. You will be supporting new starters with their onboarding process, including issuing paperwork & conducting the relevant compliance checks. 
• Administrative and project support – Our close-knit team works on a range of exciting projects to ensure the wellbeing of our staff at HQ. You will be providing administrative support to deliver a great service, and collaborate on a wide range of projects including Learning & Development, and our Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Strategy.
   

Key responsibilities

• Manage email queries and staff/candidate communications through the HR and Careers inbox. 
• Assist with reviewing job descriptions and posting job adverts on the relevant advertising platforms.
• Update our Application Tracking System (ATS) to accurately reflect each candidate’s journey and provide feedback to candidates, as necessary.
• Support with organising interview timelines, including liaising with candidates and internal staff, scheduling and preparing interview rooms, greeting candidates and conducting Right to Work checks. 
• Prepare onboarding documentation for successful candidates including creating and sending onboarding documents and conducting DBS and reference checks. 
• Take responsibility for processing invoices and expenses as required by the team.
• Assist with conducting Telephone Interviews with candidates (training and support will be provided).
• Support with wider People Team administration, for example preparing all staff emails, monitoring yearly calendars and communicating key events to our staff.
• Supporting the HR & Recruitment Assistant Manager to prepare monthly management data for the strategic resources committee.
• Assist with office management/health & safety as required.
• Work closely with the wider team to support with projects across various streams of work including PNHQ Attraction Strategy, Learning and Development and Police Now’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy.

This role will require attending our office in London approximately 2 days per week. 

We're looking for someone with experience of verging or similar church support work. Good social skills are essential as is the ability to work as part of a team as well as on your own inititiave.  The ability to work closely with and relate well to all Cathedral staff, ministry team, congregation, volunteers, visitors, and members of the general public will also be required. 

The two Assistant Vergers and Precinct Officers (AVPOs) carry out a wide range of duties under the direction of the Head Verger and Precinct Manager.  Work includes: the careful setting up and delivery of all liturgical matters; ensuring a welcoming, clean, and safe environment for all working in, visiting, or using the Cathedral and Cathedral House and precinct and ensuring the day-to-day smooth running of the Cathedral for all.

Essential experience and skills

• Sympathy with the Christian faith.
• At least one year’s experience as a church or cathedral verger or in a similar role.
• A flexible attitude and willingness to take on a range of duties including practical ‘hands- on’ work.
• Attention to detail and an ability to assess priorities including when under pressure.

• Ability to be a good team player and work collaboratively with Ministry Team, staff and volunteers.

The Role

Tyndale House is a renowned institute for biblical studies and possesses one of the finest libraries for biblical research in the world. The Role 
 
As our Supporter Engagement Assistant, you will join our Fundraising Team to help us build strong and lasting relationships with our charity's supporters and donors.  

Reporting to the Supporter Engagement Officer, you will deliver excellent customer service over the telephone, in written (email and postal) communications and face to face and ensure that supporters' details are accurately recorded on the CRM database. You will be representing the charity, explaining its purpose, and demonstrating our charity values to donors/supporters, showing appropriate empathy to those who may have cancer or a family member/friend who does.  

This role provides a great opportunity to make a real difference to the people of Yorkshire and requires someone with a friendly manner, good team-working skills, great customer service and excellent organisational skills.  
 

Specifically, you will: 

• Ensure supporter communications are accurate, timely and appropriate to the recipient. This includes following the relevant pathways to process donations, record legacy pledges, update key information so that the communication is tailored and relevant to the individual supporter. 

• Update supporter records on our database to reflect changes in marketing permissions, personal details, the charity's relationship with the supporter (e.g. Volunteer/ Donor/ Brand Ambassador etc.) and any communications had between the supporter & the charity. 

• Use the CRM System to run supplied data queries to deliver campaigns (e.g. using Mail Merge) and to create and deliver supporter communications, this includes printing and posting letters and sending emails, making updates to supporter records and fulfilling requests for information. 

• Work alongside the Supporter Engagement Officer & Individual Giving Manager to improve the initial welcome for newly acquired regular donors and the onwards stewardship journey for all supporters. Conducting research and contributing ideas to improve the supporter journeys and implementing these processes independently. 

• Undertake other duties and take on a lead role in supporting projects relevant to the purpose of the role as requested by members of the CRM, Marketing, Fundraising or Research & Services teams. 

• Monitor inbound emails to the charity in the supporter care inbox, forwarding to the relevant colleague (if unable to provide a response) or responding and actioning. 

• Monitor incoming calls to the charity through the supporter engagement number, forwarding to the relevant colleague (if unable to provide a response) or responding and actioning. 

 
About You 

To be considered for this role, you will need: 

• To have a qualification in a relevant discipline and/or proven experience working in a similar role, such as customer service. 

• To have evidence of continued professional development relevant to the role purpose and level. 

• To have customer service experience in a similar or related role (e.g. telephony/ databases/ office). 

• To have high computer literacy with comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel and Outlook. 

• To have previous experience of working with databases (e.g. Access or Raiser's Edge).

• To be happy to work independently and ask for support where this is needed, but also like to both work with and support colleagues as part of a team working towards a common goal. 

• To have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with an ability to use active listening skills, and write professionally and appropriately for a range of diverse audiences. Has a good grasp of grammar, spelling and of the spoken word. 

• To have strong organisational skills and performs their work to an extremely high level of accuracy and professionalism, paying close attention to detail.

About you

We are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual with demonstrable knowledge of developing and implementing new policies and processes to ensure best practice in recruitment, retention and engagement.

You will have a background in HR, and ideally, experience working with or supporting volunteers or communities.

About the role

Reporting to the Head of People, and with support from the Director of Communities and Inclusion, the HR Officer for Communities and Volunteers will:

• Produce volunteer management policies, procedures and documents to ensure compliance with latest good practice guidance.
• Support staff working with volunteers and other unpaid members of the BES communities to embed best practice in the valuing of unpaid contributors.
• Develop and implement, monitor and evaluate processes for a fair and equitable system of volunteer recruitment, benefits, recognition and awards.
• Identify where the gaps lie in the EDI data of volunteers and actively seek to address these.

Objective: The programme assistant receives and assesses applications for support from at-risk academics.

Experience: Bachelors’ degree or comparable experience

Duration: For an initial period of 12 months, subject to review.

Hours: Full-time. Eight hours each day Monday – Friday, with flexible working by arrangement around core hours of 10am – 4pm

Location: Hybrid working - in London office in Elephant and Castle SE1 (2/3 set days per week) and working from home on the remaining days.

Organisational Background

The Council for At-Risk Academics is a UK-registered charity founded in 1933 under the leadership of William Beveridge, to rescue academics suffering persecution under the rise of Nazism and facilitate their continued work in safety. Sixteen Cara Fellows from the 1930s and 1940s became Nobel Laureates, and many more innovators in their fields, including, Nikolaus Pevsner, Lise Meitner and Karl Popper. A number of Cara’s founders and Council members also personally provided places and/or funds to help individual academics; and Cara, known in the 1930s as the AAC, later the SPSL, was closely involved in the successful effort in 1933 to bring to London the Warburg Institute art library, which had been prohibited by the Nazis, and six of its staff. The Fellowship Programme is the continuation of the rescue mission operation started in 1933.

Cara has been a lifeline to academics at risk for just over 90 years, as and when world events have placed them in the line of fire: Hungarian Uprising, Cold War, Apartheid South Africa, Iran, Latin American Juntas, Vietnam, Kosovo, DRC, Rwanda, Sudan, Zimbabwe etc. and, more recently Iraq, Turkey, Yemen, Palestine, Syria, Afghanistan and Ukraine. Cara support is typically framed as temporary sanctuary offered at times of heightened risk.

Fellowship Programme Officer Role & Responsibilities

Casework

- Receiving and processing applications for support

- Working directly with academics facing immediate risk in their home countries to carry out due diligence

- Preparing cases for eligibility review, including arranging calls to speak with applicants, booking English language tests, and gathering all relevant documentation

- Identifying funding opportunities

- Researching potential hosts for academic placements and liaising with external stakeholders in relation to applicants

- Attend weekly case review meetings with the team

Administration

- Provide general administrative and logistical support, including answering telephones

- Answer general queries about the enquiries’ process and the Programme

- Provide support to the drafting of reports to funders

- Present and collect data

- Ensure safekeeping of confidential information

- Maintain excellent detailed records of correspondence, documents, and activities

Managerial Support

- Contributing to Fellowship Programme policy changes and decision-making

Who we are looking for:

A Permanent Customer Relations and Sales Officer to work as part of a centralised sales team, which leads all Autism Know How sales, logistic and customer support enquiries.

Managing all aspects of the customer sales journey, this role will lead and deliver an effective, timely and professional customer journey and experience, maximising income potential and repeat business to ensure performance against team sales targets and to enable the society to continue to improve its offering for autistic people.

This role will work closely with colleagues across Autism Know How, Marketing, CRM and Business Development departments, and other relevant NAS teams where required.
