PURPOSE

This role sits within the growing development team and will be responsible for managing a US and International portfolio of current and prospective major donors, cultivating relationships with individuals, trusts, and corporations and soliciting major gifts and stewarding donors effectively to encourage their lasting support. The Senior Development Manager will connect these stakeholders to our mission through a combination of face-to-face meetings, events, written proposals, and compelling presentations.

REPORTS TO

The Senior Development Manager  West Coast will report to the Director of Development US for the WHO Foundation. 

ACCOUNTABILITIES & FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Fundraising and portfolio management:

• Responsible for delivering major gifts from HNWIs, philanthropists, corporates, foundations in support of WHO’s strategic priorities in the US— particularly in major markets such as the Bay Area, Seattle, and Southern California.

• Manage a portfolio of 60-80 prospective donors (250K to 5 million USD capacity) and develop them across all stages of cultivation.

• In partnership with the Regional Director US, design and implement a comprehensive development strategy for the West Coast, aligned with the Foundation’s development goals.

• Meet a yearly set of agreed fundraising KPIs (including money raised, asks made, meetings secured and gift close rate).

• Efficiently use the CRM to record and report on activity: feeding into campaign data, team reporting and management information for the senior leadership team.

Relationship management:

• Develop and implement effective cultivation/ solicitation strategies with potential donors to motivate significant gifts to match fundraising priorities. 

• Initiate and grow a personal network of senior key influencers who are able to advise and make introductions to strengthen and grow our major donor base.

• Build mutually beneficial relationships with WHOF and WHO colleagues, particularly in relation to fundraising projects, and align programmes of activity where appropriate. 

• Create shared opportunities that support and advance the Foundation's fundraising priorities.

• Translate complex ideas into compelling messages tailored to supporters.

• Contribute to the concept, planning and delivery of events and other opportunities to engage with WHOF’s community of supporters.

• Work with leadership and fundraisers from across the Foundation to identify potential funding priorities that may be of particular interest to North American prospects.

Collaboration:

• Work in partnership with the Finance team, Legal, Comms and wider WHOF teams to ensure gifts are processed in line with donor wishes and financial regulations

• Work with senior stakeholders to secure transformational gifts.

• Ensure the highest standards of donor care through effective stewardship, timely reporting, gift acknowledgment and continued engagement.

Job requirements

PROFILE

• Significant experience of managing principal gift portfolios and closing 6- and 7-figure gifts

• Experience developing and implementing innovative high network individual events.

• Experience working in a target-orientated environment and operating at the most senior level. 

• Demonstrable experience of designing and executing successful fundraising strategies

• Excellent knowledge of best practice in philanthropic fundraising applied successfully in international development, higher education, health, or nonprofit sectors

• Strong experience in health partnership with health emergencies and corporate partners is also welcome

• Thorough knowledge of IT systems, database management and Salesforce.

• Experience working in an international organization and/or in international development within a complex stakeholder environment

• Knowledge of West Coast philanthropic networks and organizations particularly the Bay Area, Los Angeles, and/or Seattle is strongly preferred.

• Self motivated, target driven and aptitude to work with flexibility and autonomy both individually and as part of a multi-stakeholder team

• Comfort with and/or experience of operating in a lean, start-up and remote environment

In this rewarding role, you’ll be the single point of contact for adult patients preparing for discharge from the hospital. You’ll work closely with the Adult Social Care team, health professionals, hospital practitioners, and community services to:

• Identify needs and barriers to safe discharge
• Achieve safe and timely patient discharge
• Coordinate outpatient appointments and follow-up services
• Provide clear, compassionate advice and support to patients and their families
• Ensure patients understand their discharge plan every step of the way.

You’ll meet with patients, their families, friends, or carers to assess ongoing needs, ensuring a safe plan is in place for their return home. This could include ensuring that medication is arranged from the hospital pharmacy, someone is at home to greet them, food and heating are available, and the condition of the home is safe to return to. You may be required to liaise with Adult Social Care and other home providers to coordinate home support. You’ll follow up on calls or visits to ensure the patient is managing well at home. By providing the proper support, patients can be discharged sooner, and the risk of readmission is significantly reduced.

This is an interesting and stimulating opportunity to play a crucial role leading our client services team. The post holder will be responsible for overseeing all client facing activities, using their skills and experience to guide and support those delivering front line services. The creation and maintenance of an atmosphere of acceptance, empathy and empowerment are crucial. Thereby, improving the lives of all we work with.

The Client Services department encompasses our Employment Project, Counselling Service, a wide range of Wellbeing Activities, Bridge the Gap and a Safe Haven facility.

Main duties & responsibilities

1. Oversee all client facing activities ensuring KPI’s are met, and staff, volunteers and clients are actively supported.

2. Recruit and line manage Client Services department inc. Paths to Success, Bridge the Gap and Safe Haven teams, and ensure staffing level meets funding requirements and client need.

3. Ensure all staff, volunteers and activity leaders have the appropriate DBS checks and training to safely support our clients.

4. Develop, motivate, and support client facing teams alongside researching appropriate training. Including being hands on and supporting with key components of the role such as client reviews and engagement when demand requires.

5. Work closely with statutory providers and VCSE organisations to ensure service delivery and cohesive management of staff.

6. Assist with negotiations at all levels from venue hire to major funders in the development and provision of client facing activities.

7. Provide ad-hoc, on call, operational and clinical support to staff working out of hours.

8. Ensure reporting is completed on time and accurately to the Chief Executive, key funders and Statutory partners.

9. Maintain an awareness and in-depth working knowledge of challenges faced by Oakleaf clients’. Maintaining good working relationships clients and volunteers, ensuring Oakleaf services are in response to their needs.

10. Work closely with fundraising team to develop new services and regularly review and report on existing projects.

11. Maintain an awareness of project end dates and work with the senior management team to create a realistic, achievable and sustainable plans.

12. Ensure the client database is kept up to date and is regularly reviewed and adapted in line with different projects.

13. Work within the senior management team and play a strategic part in ensuring organisation wide decisions are in Clients best interests.

14. Work with accounts to ensure budgets are recorded accurately, all invoices are accurate and assigned to the correct funding stream.

About the role

We are looking to recruit a support worker to be the main point of contact for a specific set of service users who access housing, EET (education, employability, and training) and mental health support through First Choice Housing. You will work closely with those service users that you support to develop support plans, identify appropriate activities and services, and collaborate with internal and external partners to help each person achieve their goals and deliver great impact. You will work with the Programmes and Impact Manager and external partners to develop programmes or projects of interest to our service users and encourage engagement. As support worker you will also support the delivery of discreet streams of work including one to one or group digital skills sessions.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Responsible for coordinating tailored support for each client to help them ultimately enter sustainable independent living (likely in the privately rented sector). This includes supporting service users to: access internal and external opportunities and services; liaise with voluntary and statutory agencies; and maintain their tenancies with FCH and to access privately rented housing.
• Managing the onboarding of clients who are newly accessing FCH services. This includes assessing client needs and co-producing support plans; supporting their integration into their shared accommodation with their housemates; and helping them identify local amenities.
• To maintain weekly contact with service users assigned to you as part of building strong relationships and delivering high quality services.
• Develop and strengthen relationships with external stakeholders including the local authority, other charities and community leaders. Maintain awareness of the activities and services on offer locally and disseminate knowledge to the broader team as appropriate (please note this is a shared responsibility across the team).
• Update and accurately maintain First Chocie Housings database, including collecting timely data for monitoring and evaluation purposes. This data will include recording interactions with service users, progress towards achieving or meeting goals, baseline and subsequent outcomes stars and client surveys.
• Where appropriate, work with the Programmes and Impact Manager to manage volunteers delivering discreet programmes.
• Proactively working with the broader team to improve service delivery and drive impact.

This energising role will see you supporting individuals and groups within our local community, to organise their own events and fundraise for our vital care. It’s a fun and varied role and no two weeks are the same.

You need to be someone who’s compassionate but can bring bags of energy to the position! One day you might be supporting someone to open their garden or hold an afternoon tea and the next you’ll be dressing up and joining the team to deliver our Reindeer Run’s at local schools. There’s also the space for you to think creatively and bring new fundraising ideas and campaigns to our community fundraising calendar.
