Purpose of the Job
The role is a key part of the HFEH Mind team delivering mental health services across Hammersmith & Fulham, Ealing, and Hounslow.
The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, supporting, and retaining volunteers across the charity. You will ensure that volunteers have a positive experience, receive appropriate training and guidance, and feel valued for the time and skills they give. You will also work closely with staff to match volunteers to roles.
We currently offer three types of volunteering roles at HFEH Mind:
- Client facing support– Working alongside staff supporting service users
- Events – Supporting outreach & fundraising efforts and promoting our work
- Central Support – Blogging, graphic design, administration, etc.
General/Key Responsibilities
- Interview, recruit, onboard, and induct new volunteers in line with organisational needs, maintaining around 50-60 volunteers across the charity.
- Work with staff to identify new volunteering opportunities and develop volunteer role descriptions.
- Work effectively to ensure volunteers feel a part of HFEH Mind and gain value from their time with us.
- Develop and maintain volunteer policies, role descriptions, and procedures.
- Ensure all volunteering activity adheres to safeguarding, GDPR and health and safety policies.
- Promote volunteering opportunities through social media, local networks, and community partnerships
- Develop and deliver engaging volunteer training, support sessions and recognition initiatives.
- Be the main point of contact to support volunteers, listen to suggestions and/or concerns and support in resolve any volunteering related issues or complaints.
- Provide advice and guidance to volunteers about their matched relationship (with support from the wider team) and highlight safeguarding concerns as appropriate.
- Ensure each volunteer is assigned a named supervisor and receives appropriate supervision (at least every 4–6 weeks depending on role)
Volunteering Experience
- Ensure volunteers are receiving regular supervision and support during their placement.
- Monitor volunteer satisfaction, provide ongoing recognition and celebrate volunteer contributions
- Regularly report on the volunteer experience, including both quantitative and qualitative feedback & exit interviews
Administrative
- Maintain an up-to-date volunteer database and contact list.
- Support Director of Adult Services to provide reflective practice sessions for service-facing volunteers.
- Ensure volunteer training compliance is at required levels.
Other Responsibilities
- Join monthly volunteer meeting with Operational Directors, Head of Marketing & Communications and Head of HR.
- Ensure that equity and inclusion are at the heart of our volunteering programme and share in our commitment to equality of opportunity and to eliminating discrimination.
- Contribute to our fundraising effort by embracing opportunities to fundraise yourself, to promote fundraising and to support the fundraising team.
- Share our commitment to safeguarding adults and children at risk of harm, and ensure that volunteers are trained in and adhere to safe practice.
- Ensure that information is obtained, used and stored in accordance with our Data Protection and Confidentiality policy.
- Undertake any other duties commensurate with the level of the role.
Person specification
Essential
- Experience of working with or coordinating volunteers, ideally in a charity.
- An understanding of and commitment to improving the mental health of our communities, and ability to ensure that volunteers with lived experience of mental health problems are included and supported.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work with people with from diverse communities with a range of life experiences, views and reasons for volunteering
- Ability to support, organise, and motivate people, and ensure that volunteers feel like they belong within the organisation
- Good IT and administration skills (e.g. Microsoft Office, databases)
- Commitment to equality, inclusion and the values of the charity sector.
- Understanding of safeguarding, GDPR and confidentiality.
- A proactive and flexible approach to problem solving
- Ability and willingness to travel to HFEH Mind sites.
Desirable
- Experience of working in the charity or community sector.

The role
We are looking for an experienced part-time NEBOSH or IOSH qualified Health and Safety Manager, who will lead manage and develop our health and safety requirements and responsibilities around working outside and around water.
We have a health and safety management plan which following on from our Health and Safety audit, has outlined the framework for this role and what is needed to be implemented over the next 12 months.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Work with both Head of HR and Operations Manager on certain aspects of office Health & Safety with as and where necessary
- Project manage and deliver all requirements of the new created H&S Management Plan
- Work with managers on Construction Design Management (CDM) health and safety
- Track and ensure that risk assessments are being completed within teams for events and elsewhere where required in Thames21
- Work with HR and line managers to ensure that Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS) are created, updated and reviewed periodically
- Deliver the H&S induction session with new joiners when and where applicable
- Work with the Operations Manager to ensure vehicle checks are conducted in accordance with the vehicles policy, and that all drivers are trained in the use of the inspection checklists and all aspects of vehicle inspection.
- Compile a quarterly incident report to the Head of HR
- Manage the incident reporting system, escalating serious incidents (including risks) to senior management
- Manage a programme of safety audits to reporting these to the management team
- Manage and run the quarterly H&S group meetings and keep track of progress of actions that have been assigned
- Conduct training sessions on other related health and safety as and when required
- Other duties commensurate with the role

We are seeking two Senior Economists, one full-time permanent role and one 12-month fixed term role, which could be either full-time or part-time. In both roles, we are looking for someone to develop and lead research projects that generate arguments, policies and ideas to address the social and economic challenges that underpin poverty and household economic insecurity in the UK today and chart a course to a different and better future.
You will devise, lead and deliver high quality economic analysis and thinking to JRF’s policy & ideas work and offer a professional economics perspective across the wider organisation – and as a trusted, expert voice externally. You will seek out and connect with people or organisations developing new ideas and strategies that can contribute to our mission; and to develop proposals for how JRF should use its platform and resources to support their development and diffusion.
About you
As a Senior Economist, we would like you to either have a professional economics training or equivalent professional work experience, advanced data analysis skills and the ability to use a wide range of tools and software to undertake large scale and groundbreaking economic analysis (including using micro-data from major national surveys).
With experience of working on policy issues relating to poverty, you will have significant experience of having initiated, designed, led and delivered projects that included original economic analysis that generated a different or better understanding of policy challenges and helped to guide new arguments and ideas. You will be able to think critically and creatively, analyse and problem solve, and contribute to the generation of new ideas and alternative ways of approaching an issue, able to communicate arguments and ideas persuasively, via writing and speaking.
You will have advanced knowledge and critical awareness of economic theory, principles, datasets and analytical techniques and how to deploy these effectively in support of understanding and addressing the drivers of household economic insecurity. With significant knowledge of one or both of macroeconomics or UK fiscal policy and a strong understanding of how policy making works across the UK, devolved and sub-national governments, you will have an awareness and engagement with relevant political, policy and intellectual debates, plus models and approaches to social change.

What will I be doing?

Role Description
The Programmes Executive plays a key role supporting our community of schools during their time on the programme across the school year. STOPAIDS mobilises civil society, parliamentarians, the public and the media to influence decision-makers in the UK and globally on the advocacy impact areas outlined in our 2022-2025 strategy.
In partnership with senior leadership, the Media and Communications Manager will oversee the design and implementation of STOPAIDS' organisational-wide media and communications strategy that amplifies STOPAIDS’ impact and reputation across our key advocacy areas. This work includes providing media and communications guidance, coordination and delivery support to our joint advocacy projects with partners.
Our joint advocacy projects are subject to change, but currently include the Digital Health and Rights Project, the UK Civil Society working group on the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria, the UK Civil Society working group for Unitaid and a new coalition to advocate on the future of the global health architecture.
The Media and Communications Manager will support STOPAIDS and our joint advocacy projects to achieve our advocacy objectives through identifying strategic media opportunities, managing relationships with media outlets, and securing external media coverage. They will also work with staff and partners to develop relevant high-quality media products and to develop and manage online communications content for our key social media and website platforms.
As a capable team leader, the Media and Communications Manager provides expert guidance to staff and partners, is comfortable coordinating and facilitating working groups and supports the leadership of people living with and affected by HIV. They also work with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure that media and communications strategies are aligned and complementary with other organisational strategies and priorities.
As with all STOPAIDS staff, and in partnership with the CEO and the Director for Development & Engagement, they will work to ensure the sustainability of the organisation by contributing 10% of their time to fundraising (to support with application and report writing) and other advocacy support.

As a member of the newly formed development team this is an exciting opportunity to grow our expertise and provide support to the Development Director in the following areas: fundraising, business/charity development, communications, marketing.
You will help us to better tell our story, significantly increase net income and ultimately reach many more individuals, making a real difference to the lives of young people and adults as a result.
