Grants & Bids Writing Volunteers Role Overview

The Africa Health Organisation (AHO) will be 25 years old on 14 August 2025. We seek Grants and Bids Writing Volunteers to join us celebrate our Silver Jubilee from across the world to help us apply for funding from major donors, development aid agencies and public sector tenders.

Duties and Responsibilities

 Grant writing

• Developing and writing grant proposals to foundations and other grant-making organisations.
• Assembling and submitting grant requests, including letters, proposals, and budgets.
• Track and create a calendar of grant opportunities - including deadline dates, required materials,
• Researches and identifies potential sources of funders and corporate and governmental funding.
• Complete and submit grant applications to secure funding

 Tender & Bid Writing

• Write and submit tenders to win contracts.
• Maintaining awareness of tenders, acquiring PQQ questionnaires and tender documentation.
• Responding to tender invitations from the UK and other governments, EU tenders, the public sector and local authorities from the UK in areas such as health and social care.
• Recruit partners for the EU grants & tenders and other tender projects.
• Collating the input of contributions to create a coherent and well-structured final tender and ensuring the timely submission of tenders and other proposals.

Funding and Finance

The role will involve seeking and securing funding and finance for the specific goals, objectives, targets, and outcomes. You will work with the AHO President, the Board and senior management to research and identify public, private, philanthropic, individual giving, and legacy funding and finance. Each volunteer will have the opportunity to choose their goal and set a fundraising target to achieve.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills Required

• Degree in any subject area that results in superb language writing skills, including grammar, clarity and style.
• Excellent writing, analytical, and research skills are essential. Candidates must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and highly organised and have experience using online databases and other sources to locate biographical, financial, and philanthropic information.
• You MUST have at least 3 years of experience writing and delivering successful grants and tenders, especially for public health contracts such as health checks, smoking cessation, etc., from the UK government, NHS, DOHSC, Ministry of Justice, London authorities, and county councils.
• An understanding and passion for issues affecting Africa's political, social and economic development and health, social care, climate change and environmental development.

Languages requirements

About the Project – “Solta o Jogo”
“Solta o Jogo” is a vibrant cultural competition and festival that celebrates Brazilian heritage through Capoeira, music, dance, acrobatics, and a Brazilian arts fair. Hosted at Kingston University Townhouse, this event engages the local community through free performances, classes, and exhibitions.

As part of this project, we are looking for a Data Analyst who can help us measure community impact, inform decision-making, and contribute to continuous improvement across programme delivery. This is a hybrid volunteer role, ideal for someone based near Kingston (travel expenses will be reimbursed). Position Overview:
The Data Analyst plays a key role in supporting Quilombo UK’s community and cultural initiatives by collecting, managing, analysing, and reporting data related to engagement, outreach, and programme impact. This role is crucial to enabling data-driven decision-making across teams and enhancing the visibility of outcomes to stakeholders and funders.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Collection & Management:

• Gather, clean, and manage datasets from sources including attendance logs, feedback surveys, fundraising data, and project reports.

• Ensure data integrity, confidentiality, and organisation across internal records.

Analysis & Insight Generation:

• Identify trends and patterns to evaluate the effectiveness of “Solta o Jogo” programming.

• Support strategy development through analysis of community engagement, volunteer participation, and performance indicators.

Reporting & Visualisation:

• Build user-friendly dashboards and visuals to support internal teams and partner reporting needs.

• Present clear summaries and insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Cross-functional Collaboration:

• Work with Programme, PR, and Marketing teams to align data insights with communication strategies and outreach efforts.

• Provide data-driven inputs for programme evaluation and future planning.

Continuous Improvement:

• Support the design of outcome tracking tools, surveys, and templates.

Required Qualifications:

Education:

• Bachelor's degree or working toward a qualification in Data Science, Statistics, Economics, Public Health, Social Research, or related field.

Experience:

• Experience working with spreadsheets and large datasets.

• Demonstrated ability to collect, clean, and interpret data using Excel or Google Sheets.

• (Desirable) Familiarity with tools like Power BI, SPSS, R, or Python.

What you can bring to our Board can be just as interesting as where you’ve been working. Ideally, you will have the relevant skills and experience set out in the profile but you should not feel prevented from applying if you do not have experience across all criteria. You do not need to have previous charity trustee experience, but you will need to be comfortable participating at a senior level with complex discussions and the need to be comfortable making pragmatic but key decisions.

Role Summary

As a Trustee of the Nistad Foundation, you will play a critical role in overseeing the governance and strategic direction of the charity. Trustees ensure that the foundation remains compliant, financially stable, and aligned with its charitable objectives. You will act as a proactive advisor to the executive director and staff, advocate for the foundation’s work, and contribute your expertise to support the foundation’s mission.

We are looking for candidates with prior charitable foundation experience who are committed to ethical governance and enthusiastic about the foundation’s mission. Trustees are expected to act as ambassadors, supporting fundraising efforts and leveraging their networks to help drive the foundation’s initiatives forward.

Key Responsibilities

1. Governance and Compliance

• Ensure good governance practices are upheld, aligning with the foundation’s charitable mission and ethical standards.
• Confirm compliance with the Nistad Foundation's governing document, charity law, company law, and other relevant legislation.
• Monitor and manage risks, ensuring timely remedial action when needed.
• 2. Board Participation and Oversight
• Prepare for and actively participate in board meetings, contributing to discussions, working groups, and the development of board papers.
• Contribute to setting the foundation’s strategic direction and evaluating performance against charitable objectives.
• Provide ongoing monitoring and support for the Executive Director’s performance.

3. Financial and Resource Management

• Maintain oversight of the foundation’s budget and financial health, ensuring sustainability and stability.
• Ensure the effective and responsible use of the foundation’s assets, financial resources, and material and human resources.
• 4. Advisory and Strategic Support
• Offer guidance in areas of specific expertise, advising the Executive Director and staff on relevant policies and procedures.
• Lead and contribute to developing policies and procedures that reflect good practice, ensuring their implementation.

• Act as an ambassador for the foundation, advocating for its work and ethical values.
