The British Society for Immunology (BSI) is recruiting a permanent full-time Senior Marketing & Communications Officer to deliver engaging communications to a variety of audiences to drive the reach and influence of the Society’s work. 

The British Society for Immunology is an influential and authoritative voice for immunology, a key scientific and health field that plays a central role in many of the most pressing global health challenges we face, including research into the COVID-19 pandemic, developing new treatments and vaccines against disease, and supporting ageing populations to experience healthier lives for longer. This role is split equally between supporting activities of the BSI and those of our publishing portfolio. On the BSI side, you will be responsible for developing and delivering our marketing and communications activity through a variety of channels. Activities can include promoting our membership offering to immunologists working in academia, industry and the clinical sector, promoting key activities such as our events or training offerings, and supporting initiatives to raise the importance and influence of immunology. On publishing, you will be responsible for developing and delivering impactful marketing activities to increase submissions and readership of our official journals, Clinical & Experimental Immunology, Immunotherapy Advances and Discovery Immunology, in particular building the reputation of our newer Open Access journals

In your role, you will be responsible for building and delivering a successful Trusts and Foundations portfolio by focusing on:

• Maximising income from grant-giving organisations to ensure sustainable growth of restricted and unrestricted fundraising.
• Working strategically to build high-impact, high-value relationships with grant funders as well as managing relationships with existing donors.
• Collaborating with teams across the organisation to create compelling fundraising proposals and produce high-quality reports and budgets.
• Proactively maintaining excellent knowledge of Trusts and Statutory fundraising practices in the sector.

• Highly numerate and attentive to detail, with strong analytical skills and the ability to think strategically.

• Experience of writing bids or applications including any key successes.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION AND PURPOSE OF THE POST

The Finance and Resources Team is responsible for responsible for HI’s finances, general services and HR in the UK. It comprises the Chief Finance and Operating Officer, a Finance Officer and an Accounting Officer.

The main purpose of this post is:

• To ensure smooth and efficient running of the HI UK office, including office services, IT, internal communications and health & safety
• To act as a key point of contact within the organisation and externally
• To undertake human resources administration for staff and volunteers, including supporting recruitment and follow-up
• To provide administrative support to the Chief Executive, Leadership Team and Board of Trustees

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations

• Maintain the office facilities and environment to agreed service levels
• Act as primary point of contact with the landlord and all suppliers for the office space, proactively dealing with arising issues
• Be responsible for the operation and maintenance of office equipment and IT equipment for all staff and volunteers, and arrange their repair or replacement, in conjunction with the Finance Officer and the Accounting Officer, as need arises
• Act as principal contact person for HI UK’s IT infrastructure and support provider, helping colleagues to access IT support when required and developing and implementing the organisation’s IT strategy
• Manage budget lines associated with running of the office and participate in procurement, primarily of office and IT supplies, liaising with external suppliers.
• Act as designated Health & Safety Officer for the office, including ensuring Health & Safety policies are up to date and being adhered to
• Continually review systems in place within the office, make improvements where required, and communicate these to relevant people

Human Resources

• Provide administrative support and advice for the recruitment of staff, consultants and volunteers, including advertising, interviews, issue of contracts and inductions, liaising with the federation manager and recruitment teams when relevant
• Assist with other HR tasks, including managing staff and volunteer files, managing the HR information system, administrative support for payroll and contributing to updates of the staff handbook
• Support teams on volunteer recruitment, contracts, induction, support and training
• Maintain an up-to-date welcome kit for new starters and provide and coordinate induction training sessions

· Make sure that HR policies and internal processes are updated and well known by all the staff

• Provide support and advice to managers on HR matters, in collaboration with the Chief Finance and Operating Officer and the Chief Executive, including leave management, payroll, pension, changes in contracts or situation, flexible working and flexible hours, diversity and inclusion, potential conflict and interpretation of the Staff Handbook

Administrative support

• Provide administrative support to the Chief Executive, including diary management, preparing and servicing meetings and filing
• Organise and support meetings of the Board of Trustees, including room booking, diary management, preparation of papers, minute-taking and organising catering
• Maintain filing systems
• Deal with enquiries, calls and emails from the public, partners and other HI entities
• Support specific projects as needed

Other tasks

• Contribute to projects led by the Finance and Resources team and the HI UK whole team.

This is a new role for the Circuit, replacing a volunteer. In designing the position, the Circuit has aimed for maximum flexibility to secure the best candidate for the role. Initially, the person will need physically to attend some meetings to familiarise themselves with the Circuit's operations and ensure a smooth hand-over. For the right person, though, there will be considerable flexibility about how the duties are fulfilled in the longer-term. It is specifically expected that the role will allow for flexible scheduling to accommodate other responsibilities, including caring.

The Richmond & Hounslow Circuit comprises seven churches in southwest London. As with all Methodist circuits, these churches function autonomously yet collaborate closely in their ministry and mission efforts. The Circuit oversees joint resources, including staff and property. Presently, it employs four full-time ordained ministers, one full-time lay pastor, and a part-time administrator. As a part of the Methodist Church, its mission is “to respond to the gospel of God’s love in Christ and to live out its discipleship in worship and mission”. To fulfil this mission, the Circuit fosters a broad spectrum of ministry within its congregations, focusing on worship but also engaging in outreach to the homeless, asylum seekers, new parents, and various other groups. The West London Women’s Service is a specialist gender and trauma informed Assessment Centre for women with complex needs who are at risk of, or have experienced domestic abuse, violence against women and girls (VAWG); and have multiple disadvantages.

We have a great opportunity for someone interested in working as part of an innovate women’s only service in an Assessment and Reconnection role and becoming part of this exciting team achieving positive outcomes to support women in their recovery and move on journey.

In this role you will:

• Be part of a busy team environment working closely with women new to, or at risk of rough sleeping.
• Provide a personalised case management service to clients, turning assessment recommendations into practical action plans which fully involves the client. 
• Build and maintain effective relationships to support clients throughout their recovery. 
• Develop a knowledge of relevant legislation such as, welfare benefit and housing legislation. 
• Work on a weekly rota including early, mid and late shifts (some evening and weekend work may be required).

For this role staff can claim an additional 20% pay premium for hours worked between 8pm and 8am Monday to Friday, and all hours worked on Saturday and Sunday.

The End Violence Against Women Coalition (EVAW) is looking for a Public Affairs Officer to help drive forward our campaigning to end violence against women in all its forms.

The last few years have seen a huge increase in awareness of violence against women and girls, and support for our work. With this crucial human rights issue on the public and political agenda like never before, now is the time to disrupt the status quo and lay the foundations for a different world. 

ABOUT THE ROLE

EVAW’s public affairs officer will help persuade policy makers and stakeholders to prioritise tackling violence against women and girls (VAWG) and develop policy and practice that is effective, inclusive and rooted in equalities and human rights.

Typical tasks for this job might include reviewing and synthesising political speeches and debates, drafting briefings for MPs and other stakeholders and supporting with the organisation of stakeholder events such as parliamentary and party conference meetings.  

Candidates are likely to have some experience in public affairs or policy work on VAWG or a related field connected to social justice, human rights and equalities.  and will be seeking an opportunity to work in a highly impactful, agile and dynamic feminist organisation.

A background in VAWG will of course be an asset, but regardless you’ll need to show us you can keep abreast of key political developments, identify challenges and opportunities to pursue an organisation’s aims, and work to influence key decision-makers in a given field. Senior Philanthropy and Research Officer

What You'll Be Doing:

• Engaging with mid-value major donors and small trusts and foundations to secure crucial funding, ensuring the successful achievement of personal and team income targets.
• Managing and nurturing existing donor relationships, providing exceptional stewardship and ensuring continued support.
• Leading the development and implementation of a robust Prospect Research strategy to identify potential funders and build a strong pipeline of opportunities.
• Playing a key role in cultivating and stewarding prospective donors, fostering meaningful relationships and driving income growth for the team.
• Collaborating with operational colleagues to develop compelling cases for support and inform fundraising strategies.

BMS World Mission is looking for someone to support mission personnel from recruitment to end of service, and to play an important role in the team that takes care of them. As part of the team, you will contribute to creating a positive, engaging and professional working environment, where our people can thrive. As our Mission Personnel Officer, your role will involve acting as the first point of contact for our mission enquirers, providing warm and friendly support through the application process and beyond! This role provides ongoing administrative and HR support to our Mission Personnel to enable them to thrive in the places they serve. This includes enabling the:

• selection, preparation, support and debriefing of Christian mission workers
• collation, updating and advertising of overseas recruitment opportunities
• updating of policies and procedures, including insurance, personnel handbooks, and travel
• maintenance of accurate records using an electronic database
• strengthening of internal communication.

The successful applicant will be a committed Christian. The nature of this role means that this is a specific occupational requirement.

Key information

Location:                     Didcot, Oxfordshire / Flexible working.

This role can be office-based or hybrid. The role includes hosting visitors to the office and so is required to be present in the Didcot office on those days.  There is scope to work from home some of the time.  The cost of travel to BMS Didcot whether on a regular basis or infrequently, would be borne by the employee.
