Job Overview
The Senior Communications Manager is responsible for developing and delivering the Society’s communications strategy to enhance its visibility, influence, and engagement with key audiences. The role ensures that the Society’s voice is clear, consistent, inclusive, and aligned with its strategic aims across all channels—web, social media, email, press, and publications. The role combines planning and budgeting with hands-on communications activity.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications
- Develop and implement an annual communications plan to support the Society’s strategic objectives, including member communication and marketing of the Society’s activities events and programmes.
- Work with the CEO, senior staff and officers to shape key messages and deliver campaigns that enhance the Society’s visibility and reputation.
Digital and Print Content
- Manage the Society’s website, ensuring it is current, accessible, user-friendly, and engaging.
- Oversee the production and distribution of newsletters, bulletins, blogs, and reports.
- Write, edit, and commission content for various audiences, including members, academics, policymakers, students, and the general public.
Social Media and Brand Management
- Manage the Society’s presence on social media (e.g. X/Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube), creating engaging and timely content.

Media and Public Relations
- Monitor performance against income and other targets and report regularly to the Chief Executive and Board.

Job Purpose

Lead Digital Communications
Manage HHA’s social media, website, email newsletters, and supporter communications to engage diverse audiences and grow HHA’s reach.

This role involves travel and occasional overnight stays (with mileage reimbursed) across England and North Wales. While we prioritise public transport use, this is not always feasible. Therefore, a valid driving licence is essential.

Multimedia Storytelling
- Create and deliver impactful, accessible multimedia content that amplifies beneficiary voices, supports advocacy, and aligns with our brand and strategic goals.
Stakeholder Engagement & Partnerships
- Develop and tailor impactful communications and materials that strengthen partnerships, engage funders, and support collaborative initiatives with partner organisations.
Press, Media & Digital Oversight
- Support on press and social media communications by managing media relationships, crafting timely content, and optimising outreach to amplify our advocacy and campaigns.

Healthwatch City of London are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced communications and engagement officer to ensure that the patient and service users voice is at the heart of Health and Social Care decision making. The successful candidate will drive engagement with the local community, creating visibility of our work to residents and partners. This part time role (4 days a week) is within a busy small team representing the residents, workers and students of the City of London. Healthwatch City of London are the independent champion for people who use health and social care services. We’re here to make sure that those running services, put people at the heart of care. Our sole purpose is to understand the needs, experiences and concerns of people who use health and social care services, and to speak out on their behalf. We also work to get services right for the future.
You’ll also be representing our organisation at network meetings across all the various Health and Social Care providers, charity partners and patient groups across North East London.
Role purpose
Working closely with the General Manager and Trustees you will develop and deliver the communications and engagement strategy for the organisation, making sure the patients voice is at the heart of everything we do. You will write monthly newsletters, daily social media posts, organise and manage engagement and information events and produce statutory publications.
