Diabetes UK has witnessed a significant change in how we engage with people living with and at risk of diabetes. We are expanding our team to more effectively reach out to, engage and support more people to live well with all types of diabetes using our online platforms, and ultimately to achieve our vision of a world where diabetes can do no harm.

As Digital Engagement Officer, you will work closely with the Communications Manager, and the wider team, to support the development and delivery of an effective local digital engagement plan, building meaningful engagement journeys and fostering long term relationships with the diabetes community. Through agreed targeted plans, you will help to increase our reach, profile, reputation and influence, using online platforms to engage with people affected by diabetes and the wider public. You will promote the work of Diabetes UK, raise awareness of diabetes among the public and providers of healthcare service/system, support people living with diabetes and influence improvements in services for people with diabetes.

Main Responsibilities

As Digital Engagement Officer you will use your considerable experience to contribute to the development and delivery of a strategic local digital engagement plan to support team and organisational objectives. You will develop and deliver proactive communications to raise the profile of Diabetes UK in a geographically defined area using various social media channels. You will work collaboratively with other Regional, National and wider organisation colleagues to share best practice and agree effective ways to digitally communicate and mobilise stakeholders from all communities, incorporating key messages across the UK. You will build and maintain digital engagement with existing and new stakeholders, to inform and strengthen Diabetes UK's social media and online activity and overall profile.

Ideal Candidate

As Digital Engagement Officer you will have a strong track record in digital engagement. You should be able to demonstrate understanding of the reputational, legal, GDPR, consent and safeguarding risks involved with media relations and social media and be able to mitigate against these. You should have experience of motivating and supporting others to deliver digital and social media communications and be familiar with online content management systems. Knowledge and experience of carrying out communications projects and plans across a variety of digital platforms, including websites and social media, is essential along with the ability to maintain, review and improve online information and resources.

This is role is based within the south west and south central region, allows for hybrid working and is connected to the regional office in Taunton, Somerset. The person must therefore be based within this region.

Job Description

Communications:     

• Develop, contribute to and implement impact-driven and strategic communications campaigns that build Kineara’s fundraising capacity and raise awareness of the issues
• Develop brand identity for Kineara’s new charitable arm, ensuring it is consistent across all activities in the organisation, while maintaining Kineara’s overall ‘look and feel’ to ensure coherence in branding, colours, messaging, style and approach.
• Oversee the creation, development, distribution of compelling, impact-driven story-telling about Kineara’s work and beneficiaries using interviews, blogs, case studies, etc.
• Use a range of platforms to distribute print and electronic content including, but not limited to, newsletters, brochures, leaflets, posters reports, e-newsletters, and Kineara’s website
• Work closely with IT and business managers to ensure smooth running of internal communications

We are now seeking a Digital Communications Lead (maternity cover) who will develop and deliver our digital communications to build awareness, understanding and engagement with Rewilding Britain and our mission. To lead the development and delivery of Rewilding Britain's digital communications output, to inform, engage and activate audiences in support of our charitable aims.

Objectives of the role: 

Social media

• In line with our organisational objectives, lead on building our profile, reputation and engagement on social media with key audiences.

• Plan and deliver inspiring and effective social media content, including as part of engagement campaigns, fundraising appeals, and initiative launches, and in support of our partners and members.

• Experience in managing and optimising website content.

• Familiarity with Google Analytics and digital monitoring tools.

• In-depth experience and understanding of current social and digital communications tools, landscape and trends.

Skills

Terms and conditions and staff benefits

This role is as maternity cover (9 months with possibility of extension).

This is a full time 5 day (35 hour) a week position, but we are open to a conversation with candidates who are seeking a role of 28-35 hours a week.

Marketing and Communications Officer

We are recruiting a Marketing and Communications Officer to champion and manage the PAPYRUS brand and support the delivery of our projects and services through data-driven campaigns, across email, organic social, and paid digital marketing channels.

What you will do:

Support the day to day running of social media platforms to promote our services, increase brand awareness and drive engagement with our audiences.

The Regional Communications Officer role is an exciting, varied position working with Emmaus communities located in the South East region of the UK to increase their profile and engage supporters.

This is a part time position working four days per week (30 hours), Monday to Friday.

Within this role, you can be based at home or in an Emmaus community. Wherever you are based, maintaining positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders is vitally important.  The current patch for this role is Emmaus Brighton & Hove, Emmaus Greenwich and Emmaus Dover. Regular travel to these three communities will be required (usually one community visit per week). Travel to team meetings, usually held in Birmingham, and other locations will also be required on occasion.

Who are we looking for?

We require someone with a strong skillset and at least two years’ experience working in a busy communications, public relations or marketing role. Although not essential, knowledge and understanding of homelessness and the charity sector would also be an advantage.

Creativity and passion are a must. You will have a broad range of communications skills, love seeing your creative ideas come to life and keen to develop your skillset within a national homelessness charity.

Context of the role.

The successful candidate will be guided by the Communications & Fundraising Officer to communicate the experiences of refugees and asylum seekers and demonstrate the impact of Upbeat Communities to our supporters and followers, as well as to new audiences. They will have a positive attitude and love communicating what we do as a charity.

The role can mostly be done remotely; however, it will be required for the candidate to travel to our base in Derby a minimum of 1 day a week to stay connected to the team, and for team meetings and training as and when they occur.

About us.

Upbeat Communities was founded in response to the needs of refugees arriving in the UK and the stories they shared of their lives and their journeys. Through building relationships with those from refugee communities we were able to identify their needs and the best ways to respond.

One of the best resources a refugee can have to help them settle in their new home is a good social network. Relationships and connectedness can help overcome the many challenges faced by those seeking refuge. With this aim, we want to help connect refugees into community.

Our name reflects our vision to see thriving, positive communities where refugees can contribute and make the most of opportunities.

We greet new arrivals with our Welcome Boxes befriending project. We offer free English classes and community activities to help refugees (adults and children) integrate. We empower refugees to rebuild their lives through Host Derby (temporary accommodation), mentoring (careers guidance) and the UK Refugee Resettlement Scheme, which local authorities contract us to deliver. We also empower the local community through awareness raising.

Main duties and responsibilities:

Content creation

•  Creating written and visual content for social media and our website.
• Finding useful resources, articles, and news to be shared on our website, blog and social media.

Social media and website

•  Day-to-day management of Upbeat’s social media accounts including creating and scheduling content, replying to messages, and interacting with followers.
•  Updating the website with relevant images, statistics, and news.

Supporter stewardship

• Following Upbeat’s donations process, ensure donors are thanked in an appropriate and timely manner, and that all communications are logged on to our database (Donorfy).
• Researching local fundraising or awareness-raising opportunities and events.

Other

• Working with Upbeat’s Communications & Fundraising Officer on larger-scale fundraising campaigns throughout the year, as well as the communication of these campaigns.
• Making an active contribution to the overall work of Upbeat Communities through team meetings, staff training, awareness and fundraising events, and any other appropriate activities.

The Role 
 
As our Communications Officer, you will be responsible for planning and delivering a wide range of communications that contribute to increased brand awareness of the charity, demonstrate the charity’s expertise and impact, educate the public about cancer prevention, signs, symptoms and screening and support the generation of income for the charity. 

Specifically, you will: 

• Plan, research, create and distribute creative media content, including press releases, blog posts, case studies and videos, to support research, services, cancer insight, fundraising, events, retail, corporate partnerships and campaigns. 

• Proactively seek, identify and engage in media opportunities, such as attending events, organising photo opportunities and meeting face-to-face with case studies.

• Manage third-party suppliers such as photographers and film production agencies, obtaining quotes, providing clear briefings and ensuring work is delivered on time and within budget.

• Respond to press enquiries efficiently and to a high standard. Understand which media enquiries are appropriate for the charity’s brand and key messages and those which are not, so that the charity prioritises only those which are value-adding. 

• Organise TV, radio and press interview opportunities for the Chief Executive, Directors and Heads of. Prepare clear briefings for interviewees. 

• Demonstrate and convey professionalism at all times and represent the charity when communicating with the media, members of the public, volunteers and supporters to demonstrate the charity’s core values.

• Monitor and evaluate the charity’s media coverage and the digital impact of PR content, providing a monthly media clippings report. 

• Provide PR input to the charity’s Leadership Team, Board reports and performance dashboards. 

• Maintain continuous awareness of industry news and regularly update colleagues on key developments. 

 
About You 

To be considered for this role, you will need: 

• To be educated to a degree or equivalent level of education or have relevant experience in a similar role at a similar level. 

• Previous media experience, whether through journalism or a PR / in house media assistant role. 

• Experience in building relationships with colleagues and journalists and managing media opportunities such as interviews, broadcast opportunities and photocalls. 

• An ability to write compelling copy for multiple audiences, and media channels, often translating complicated information into a format that is easily understood by readers. 

• An agile media mind, able to spot the key storyline that will maximise the possibility of media coverage and attract the attention of the media. 

• An evaluative mindset, supporting continual improvement by analysing coverage and associated data from media activity. 

• An ability to keep a calm head when faced with a reactive media situation in a manner that best protects the reputation of the charity 

• A thoughtful and empathetic outlook, able to engage with people affected by cancer with sensitivity and respect.

JOB PURPOSE

This role will support the planning and delivery of digital projects and campaigns that aim to raise awareness of the Start Network, build engagement across membership and support the Start team to work in effective ways. The postholder will create, edit and share digital content, manage online communities and will support the planning, development, maintenance and management of digital platforms.

The post-holder will produce and edit a wide range of digital content, including written content and digital media. The post-holder will also support the day-to-day engagement of stakeholders on digital platforms, such as social media, collaboration platforms and other engagement tools. The post-holder will have a good knowledge of best practise in digital while being able to use data to evidence the effectiveness of content and campaigns.

The post-holder will also manage or support new digital developments, such as data visualisation, that will increase stakeholder engagement in our work. Working closely with stakeholders and colleagues, the post holder will support projects to ensure they meet business and audience needs and that they are delivered on time and on budget.

This role will also coordinate third party suppliers in this process.

This role will be full time, based in the UK or another country of Start Network’s operations with occasional travel required.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

COMMUNITIES AND CONTENT

• Coordinate the day-to-day communications of Start Network programmes on social media channels. Take part in planning and coordination of content for all social media channels, in line with digital engagement strategy.

• Create and share multimedia content for social media and website (such as gifs, images and video) to build engagement with audiences around the world. Collaborate with Graphic Designer, Communications Officer and external agencies and freelancers in production of high quality content, in line with Start Network’s brand guidelines.

• Manage day to day interaction with online communities (including social media, internal and member communities), track engagement, respond to enquiries and generate conversation.

• Advise colleagues on how to use and manage social media and digital communities for greatest impact – Work with the Digital Manager and Communications Manager to deliver training for staff, introducing new platforms and digital tools to the team.

• To assist with the marketing and promotion of Start Network’s content across the website, newsletters and social media channels and to contribute to Start Network’s marketing strategy as required.

DIGITAL PLATFORMS AND WEBSITE

• Work together with the Digital Manager to manage the development of digital platforms, working with internal colleagues and external developers to identify and deliver a range of projects.

• Maintain website content day-to-day, publishing news and blogs, resources, events and updating landing pages. Working with teams across the organisation on updating all pages regularly.

• Make changes to the website based on data, audience, (UX) and expert research to improve accessibility, search engine optimisation (SEO) and the overall experience of our users.

• Maintain the Start Network website day-to-day, identifying bugs, escalating internally and working with the developers to deliver solutions. Provide website, social media and newsletter activity reports and statistics and evaluate them in conjunction with the Communications Officer.

• Maintain a Digital Asset Management system Canto; collating and storing photos and sourcing appropriate stock images.

• Support the day-to-day delivery of digital projects fulfilling the organisations communications and digital objectives. These might include development of maps or other data visualisation tools and microsites. 

• Support effective development and use of internal platforms, Including our data management and CRM platform (Salesforce), and document management tool (Box) while maintaining high standards of data security and privacy.

• Ensure inspirational, informative and educational content for Start Network and its key programmes is shared regularly through the Start Network website and other digital channels, including e-newsletters and social media.

• Work with colleagues and members to edit high quality content in a variety of media, including photography, design, animation and video content.

• Contribute to building a strong organisational digital culture, design and support training delivery to all staff.

• Work together with the colleagues from the Communications team to provide advice and support to colleagues to raise the quality and effectiveness of content across the Network, through templates, guidance and training.

• Together with Events Coordinator and Digital Manager, provide technical support to online events, meetings and webinars.

• Manage the digital inbox and ensure enquiries are dealt with swiftly.

PERSON PROFILE

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL

• Experience of managing social media platforms, including advertising and using scheduling and monitoring tools such as Sprout Social

• Experience of digital marketing and the use of different tools, formats and channels

• Graphic design and/or video editing skills - including experience of using Adobe design software and Canva

• A strong understanding of digital content best practice. This includes SEO, accessibility and UX.

• Passion for creating quality digital content that is informative, engaging and inspires change.

• Confident using a content management system (CMS) to create and edit content on a website (preferably Drupal)

• Proficient use of Google Analytics and other digital tools to review the performance of content and make changes to improve it.

This exciting role will ensure that we offer our audiences the best possible experience through the Foundation’s website and other digital platforms. Using a data-led approach, you’ll be able to use your user experience expertise to help drive the adoption of a digital-first way of working across the Foundation’s activities.

What does the role involve?

· Managing the relationship with our website development agency. Making recommendations for areas of improvement and further development.

· Managing our analytics and other insight platforms to ensure that we collect robust data and can make informed, evidence-based recommendations to ensure we’re using digital to deliver against the Foundation’s strategic objectives.

· Support and develop the implementation of an SEO strategy for our website content to ensure that our audiences can find our content.

What skills, knowledge and experience are we looking for?

· Ability to interpret complex requirements and user needs and make recommendations of implementable solutions.

· Knowledge of the fundamental of Agile and Scrum

· Knowledge of website analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics, Google Looker Studio)
