Role overview: as the Director of RAK, you'll lead our organisation in supporting refugees and asylum seekers in South West London to lead fulfilled and independent lives. Proposals for hybrid working will be considered. Your responsibilities will include:
Strategic Leadership
- Developing and implementing annual plans aligned with our strategy, in collaboration with the Board of Trustees, to achieve desired outcomes.

Media Defence is a charity that helps journalists defend their rights. We support independent media, journalists and bloggers who are under legal threat by making sure that lawyers are available to defend them. We engage in strategic litigation to improve the regulatory environment for media freedom, make grants to organisations in various countries to run media defence programmes, support individual journalists facing legal action by covering their lawyers' fees, and build the capacity of the lawyers and organisations we work with on issues of media law. Role Summary
The Grants Officer plays a key role at Media Defence, administering the grants that Media Defence makes to partner organisations, helping assess grant applications, and helping with communications via social media and through other channels.
As Grants Officer, you will also manage and administer Media Defence’s financial grants and non-financial support to journalists facing legal action and identify new potential grantees.
You will be flexible and creative, have exceptional communication skills and a good understanding of the realities faced by lawyers and journalists operating in various regions of the world, including under repressive regimes.
Main Responsibilities
Grants Management:
- Manage Media Defence’s grant support work
- Manage Media Defence’s block grant and individual emergency defence grant application processes, including assessment of applications and project proposals, proposal development, preparation of final recommendation for approval by Board and others
- Manage grant award process, including contracting, setting of KPIs and reporting requirements
- Monitoring of awarded grants, including tracking developments in litigation, assessment of partner/grantee reports and grant compliance; financial oversight of grants and grant budgets; provision of additional support as may be required by grantees

We are at an exciting stage as an organisation with an ambitious 10-year strategy to increase our choirs from six to thirty by 2033, so we are investing in our fundraising team to grow our income in line with our bold strategy and plans.
Reporting to the Head of Development, the Development Manager will take an active role in building a robust and sustainable major donor and corporate fundraising programme to help us expand our work across the UK over the coming years. They will work closely with the Head of Development to establish new and exciting partnerships with high-net-worth individuals and companies who align with our values, to grow income sustainably and guarantee the long-term stability of the organisation. - Proactively research, identify, and develop support from high-net-worth individuals.

About the role:
Reporting to the Director of Engagement, the Media Officer is a key member of the organisation’s Engagement department (comprising the Marketing team and Publishing team). We are a small but mighty nonprofit organisation which delivers impactful change and support to migrant women’s lives in Thanet.
This role will be focused on finance, governance and operations and will be a job share with the CEO for practice, development, and partnerships, who is already in post and has been overseeing this function. You will also be responsible for the line management of the Operations Manager and volunteers.
It is a crucial time for Beyond the Page and we have big ambitions for this year, including charity registration, maximising our income generation, developing, and implementing our strategy and continuing to provide high quality and impactful ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages), wellbeing and creative activities in the community to women born outside of the UK.
We are looking for a leader to help us take our next steps.
You will need to have an excellent attention to detail, previous management experience and budget oversight, knowledge of current legislation and be able to share a leadership role effectively. You will also be responsible for taking us through the charity registration process and all associated duties thereafter. The role is 22.5 hour a week which can be offered flexibly. Please note that there is a mandatory Monday afternoon meeting which finishes at 3pm. We deliver within term time, and it is therefore required that annual leave is taken outside of this time.

2. Job Description
The Head of External Engagement is a key leadership post within the organisation. The role encompasses responsibility for the development and delivery of the organisation’s external activity, including profile, brand identity and stakeholder engagement (including the public), fundraising, and driving income generation in new areas, notably commercial partnerships. It also forms part of Sound and Music’s senior management team, who under the leadership of the Chief Executive are responsible for overseeing the organisation’s programme of activity, strategic development, external profile and a positive and productive organisational culture.
An experienced fundraiser and communicator, you will lead the external engagement team and support the delivery of its strategic and operational plans. The broad remit of the role means the successful candidate will be a strong and confident communicator who builds networks easily and prioritises exceptional stakeholder management and relationship development.
Sound and Music operates a hybrid working model with a mix of in person and remote working, so we welcome applications from anywhere in the UK. Our office is in London and the minimum requirement will be to attend one day per week.

3. Key Responsibilities
Leadership and management
External leadership:
· Represent Sound and Music publicly, including through stakeholder and supporter events
· Work with the Head of Programmes to ensure Sound and Music’s advisory groups are meaningfully engaged
· Be the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead for Sound and Music
Internal leadership:
· Shared strategic responsibility and accountability for Sound and Music’s three core aims and their associated objectives, outcomes and outputs
· Shared accountability (with other senior management colleagues) for the successful delivery and implementation of the organisation’s Business Plan
· Lead the organisation’s External Engagements team. This team includes a Communications and Insights Manager and Fundraising Coordinator (both line managed by the Head of External Engagement) plus support from other Sound and Music team members
Development and fundraising
· Develop and support the Chief Executive on the overall business and development strategy for the organisation to ensure we meet fundraising targets (£200k in 2024-25) for annual programmes and major projects
· Develop an ambitious fundraising programme which builds our supporter base and individual funding streams, including individuals, major gifts and public funders
· Drive income growth by identifying and negotiating commercial partnerships and contribute to the development of an enhanced commercial mindset across the organisation
· Develop and cultivate the existing trusts and foundations pipeline
· Prepare documents and reports for key funders including Arts Council England
· Build and maintain positive and productive relationships with key funders, commercial organisations and stakeholders and cultivate existing relationships within the organisation
· Establish new income streams, for example, by maximising the intellectual property created within the organisation
· Engage the Board of Trustees and senior management team in fundraising activities and the ongoing strategy to optimise donor management and stewardship to develop a culture of fundraising across the organisation
· Maximise the opportunities provided by the new CRM system and contribute to the development of a data-led mindset across the organisation
Communications and campaigns
· Develop and lead the overall communications and reputation management strategy for varied stakeholders to ensure we increase our visibility and influence in the sector
· Support the Chief Executive to build the profile of our brand, drive the media messaging and oversee and power our content media campaigns
· Support the Chief Executive to build and maintain positive and productive relationships with government and culture and media opinion formers
Strategy and planning
· Work with the Chief Executive and other senior management team members to monitor, evaluate and review KPIs, strategies and activity so as to maximise Sound and Music’s impact. This includes reporting and presenting to the Board and externally to help build engagement and relationships in the sector and with funders
· Assess the reputational, financial, delivery and other risks associated with current and new projects and partnerships
· Empower, model, support and encourage cross-team working to realise the full income generating possibilities of projects
Finance and governance
· Contribute to creating and monitoring the overall organisation budget
· Work closely with the Chief Executive, Head of Programmes and Finance Manager to formulate financial strategy against specified budget areas, and to ensure that the programme activity is sufficiently resourced, planned and delivered to budget
· Ensure close monitoring of income and expenditure for relevant budget lines and contribute to senior management team financial planning and review
· Attend Board and Financial Subcommittee meetings to present and report impact on a quarterly basis
Special conditions of the post
· Travel within the UK, as required by the role
· A willingness to represent the organisation internationally on an occasional basis
· Evening and weekend working to attend and network at events will be required (time off in lieu is taken afterwards)

Essential:

· Understanding of the current political, economic, social and technological climate, including the context for culture and public funding and an active engagement with technological developments in creativity

· Excellent understanding of digital communications and infrastructure and how it can build reach and engagement, including using data to drive decision making

Thousands of people in our communities are affected by breast cancer, and many of these are compelled to help by fundraising for Breast Cancer Now. To enable us to best support our network of fundraisers, and create a sector leading programme, we've just reconfigured our community fundraising team.
This has created an exciting opportunity for a community fundraising operations executive to join our wonderful team.
In this role, you’ll help to deliver our mass market ‘DIY fundraising’ programme. This will involve looking after our fundraising pack fulfilment, supporting on our email stewardship, and managing day to day enquiries from our incredible supporters.
You’ll work closely with the wider community fundraising team to provide operational support and, reporting into the senior community fundraising operations officer, you’ll also assist on a variety of projects. This could include anything from analysis and reporting to stewardship communications and making sure our supporters have the materials they need for their fundraisers.
You’ll be well supported in your role, with the opportunity to learn from members of the wider team. You’ll also be encouraged to develop your skills by attending sector webinars and accessing our organisation learning programme.
About you
We’re looking for a brilliant communicator who thrives in a busy environment and is committed to the highest standards of supporter stewardship. You’re a team player who is eager to help others achieve amazing results but is also confident to work independently.
