We are looking for a highly organised, pro-active and confident Digital Communications Officer to join our Campaigns and Communications team. You will work closely with the Digital Communications Manager to support all things digital including social media and website content, as well as coordinating digital content for EUmetriosis, a European funded endometriosis research project. This role is part-funded by the EUmetriosis project.
You’ll be confident working across multiple projects to varying deadlines and enjoy working as part of a small but driven communications and campaigns team, who are passionate about raising awareness and driving change for those with endometriosis.
Endometriosis impacts the physical and mental health of 10% of women and those assigned female at birth, from puberty to menopause - although the impact may be felt for life. Yet it’s a disease most people have never heard of, do not understand and currently has no cure. It costs the UK economy around £8.2 billion every year in healthcare costs, loss of work and treatments and yet it isn’t recognised by most employers. As the UK’s leading charity for all those affected by endometriosis, we’re determined to change this and ensure that everyone gets prompt diagnosis and the best treatment and support.

Job purpose
The Communications & Digital Officer delivers creative, high-quality communications that promote the College’s work, products and services, supporting membership recruitment, retention and engagement. Key responsibilities

In the last 12 months alone the IOP communications team has led the UK in helping celebrate the UNESCO International Year of Quantum, produced agenda-shaping policy work on the need to ensure every young person has a specialist physics teacher and raised the alarm about the financial challenges facing university physics departments. The Role
What will I be doing?
- Working with the media as a point of reactive and proactive content – supporting and advising colleagues on their projects and providing a full communications service for IOP policy work.
- Working to support our digital and social strategy, filming content for social media and supporting our online engagement
- Supporting out of hours and monitoring work as required. Playing a full role in the horizon scanning and planning work of the communications and marketing team.
Projects you work on may include:
- IOP policy work and influencing programme
- IOP campaigns and advocacy
- Department support – you will have your own ‘patch’ within the IOP where you will be expected to build relationships and develop your own proactive body of work.

The Role
The objectives of the Communications and Campaigns team are to increase the public profiles of Rethink Mental Illness and Mental Health UK, mobilise public support to bring about change and ensure that all colleagues are aware of, bought into and engaged in contributing to the values and direction of the charities.
A natural storyteller, you will have a talent for creating shortform video content that engages key audiences across our social media platforms. Person Specification
Essential:
- Degree in marketing, visual communications, journalism, or related field, or equivalent professional experience
- Proven experience in a digital communications or media role
- Experience in audio-visual storytelling such as video work or podcasting
- Excellent written and spoken English, with strong copy-editing and proofreading skills
- Professional-grade skills in graphic design, web design, and audio/video production
- Demonstrated ability to manage websites, social media channels, and digital campaigns
- Strong analytical skills, including experience using digital analytics to inform strategy
- Familiarity with email marketing or CRM platforms (e.g., Mailchimp)
- Technically fluent, with creative and storytelling flair
- Highly organised, collaborative, and attentive to detail
- Ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Desirable:
- Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field
- Experience working in a think tank, NGO, research, or public policy organisation
- Experience in media relations or crisis communications
- Knowledge of global security, defence, or nuclear policy issues
