Each year we recruit thousands of people to take part in the Macmillan Mighty Hikes, a sector-leading series of hiking events across the UK that have raised over £70m for people living with cancer.
We’re looking for an experienced and results-driven stewardship manager with excellent project management skills to oversee the delivery and development of our multi-channel stewardship campaign, registration platform and website for the 2026 series.

About the role
This role is responsible for leading our Programme Manager and Officer to plan, build and optimise our multi-channel stewardship journey – covering email, outbound calling, SMS and direct mail. You will also work in close collaboration with our Product and Digital teams to manage and develop our website and registration platform.
A typical week in this role might involve:
- Overseeing the delivery of project plan tasks across different stakeholders, to make sure everyone is meeting set KPIs and working to deadline
- Managing our relationship with our registration platform provider, using data and insight to identify improvement
- Working with creative agencies to brief and produce assets, using audience insights, that will inspire people to fundraise for their Mighty Hike
- Managing expenditure budgets to ensure spend is tracking accurately against different suppliers
- Using JustGiving data to report on fundraising performance and identify opportunities to drive growth and test new activations
- Leading on meetings with internal and external stakeholders to present the Mighty Hikes and inspire high levels of engagement and support
This role does require weekend work (although not at your desk) as you’ll be out and about cheering on our participants. A full UK driver’s license is preferred and a willingness to drive a van is a bonus. You will be compensated for your weekend work with days in lieu.

About you
We are looking for an experienced stewardship manager with a passion for project management, strong account management skills and understanding of digital optimisation.
- Stewardship skills: experience delivering multi-channel stewardship campaigns with personalisation based on customer segments
- Digital skills: experience with website management and a strong understanding of digital optimisation and SEO
- Financial skills: proven track-record of hitting financial targets and managing expenditure budgets
- Results-focussed: ability to analyse data to report on performance and make decisions for optimisation
- Project management and leadership: experience in leading individuals or teams to deliver a project, setting clear goals and delegating tasks effectively
- Communication: an ability to communicate clearly with a range of different people, with confidence to influence and negotiate to drive projects forwards, as needed
- Relationship management: an ability to build positive relationships with colleagues and external partners, which enable productive collaboration on projects

Dr Jenner’s House, The Chantry, is a site of profound global historical significance, recognized as the birthplace of vaccination. It was here that Edward Jenner, a country doctor and enlightenment figure, conducted his groundbreaking work in the 1790s, leading to the world's first vaccine and a medical breakthrough that forever changed humanity.

The Opportunity
The Jenner Trust is seeking a dynamic and experienced Development Manager to join our team during a pivotal phase of growth and development, offering a unique opportunity to shape the future of a globally significant heritage site.
Working collaboratively in a small team with the Museum Director, Chairman, and Trustees, you will be instrumental in driving our fundraising efforts, securing vital income, and building sustainable relationships that will ensure the long-term preservation and educational outreach of Dr Jenner’s House. Key Responsibilities
As our Development Manager, you will:
Strategy & Leadership:
- Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing refinement of the museum’s comprehensive Fundraising Strategy, establishing clear action plans, KPIs, and targets.
- Establish and facilitate a Fundraising Leadership Group comprising Trustees, staff, volunteers, and external consultants to leverage expertise and resources for fundraising activities.
- Ensure the Fundraising Strategy incorporates ongoing work with the National Lottery Heritage Fund, particularly for the restoration of the Temple of Vaccinia and The Chantry.
Donor Cultivation & Stewardship:
- Develop and nurture long-term relationships with new and existing individual donors, high-net-worth individuals, corporates, and foundations to build a robust pipeline of future support.
- Drive a proactive stewardship programme for all potential and existing donors, ensuring exceptional donor care and fostering sustained engagement.

Income Generation & Grant Management:
- Identify and review new avenues for potential capital and revenue grant funding opportunities (unrestricted and restricted).
- Lead and coordinate compelling grant funding applications to a diverse range of potential funding bodies, including NGOs, Trusts, Foundations, philanthropists, and local authorities.
- Inspire new and existing supporters to join the museum’s membership and/or donor schemes, significantly increasing the museum’s income (both revenue and capital) to meet agreed targets.
- Ensure grant-funded projects are appropriately managed, and all requisite monitoring and evaluation reports are submitted to funding bodies on time.
Communications & Engagement:
- Produce engaging copy and content for newsletters and assist with external communications, including social media, press releases, and other PR and marketing opportunities, to promote fundraising initiatives.
- Organise and manage fundraising and donor cultivation events, ranging from low-level individual giving activities to major high-level events, especially plans for the 50th anniversary of the eradication of smallpox in 2030.
With such a small staff team we are looking for a candidate who is able to work collaboratively and to support other staff and Trustees in securing the future for the Trust.
Skills and Experience

DELIVERY:

Provide timely and tailored support to A&OS, including:
- Responding to queries

- Creating content and campaign plans in collaboration with UnitedGMH’s communications team
- Compile regular updates to inspire A&OS staff and Ambassadors, in collaboration with their Marketing & Communications team.Liaise with the Global Mental Health Action Network team to share project updates and ensure programme delivery.
- Explore new opportunities to grow the quality and impact of the partnership, including potential new business initiatives.
Strategy & Sector Insight
- Stay informed on sector developments and competitor activity to inform innovative, legally sound partnership strategies.
- Support the Director of Fundraising in delivering the overall Corporate Partnerships strategy and operational plan.
Administration & Logistics
- Maintain a clear and accurate virtual filing system for all partnership activity and donations.
- Update relevant database records to ensure smooth tracking and reporting
- Conduct research and coordinate logistics for programme visits and events, with support from the Finance & Operations Officer

- Take responsibility for personal learning and development, participating in supervision, training, and team meetings.
