Details of Job

The Events and Communications Officer will work across the team to plan, produce and deliver a calendar of in-person and on-line events. They will also communicate our work to external audiences to drive the participation of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in our programmes and attract potential funding from corporates, grant-makers, and government bodies.

The post holder will work with the programme team to manage a calendar of online and in-person events and oversee the event process from beginning to end. The post holder will manage ticketing platforms, oversee event budgets and logistics and create event briefings to ensure alignment between external speakers and team members. This will include overseeing the set-up of IT and technology to ensure smooth event delivery and acting as a main contact point for external event partners. The organisation

ImpactEd Group supports education and purpose-driven organisations to maximise and realise their potential. A growing and skilled team of over 30 people, we help our partners to be consistently impactful and sustainable through a combination of specialist support and use of digital tools.

This project would support our Evaluation Practice. The evaluation team works with over 1,500 schools and organisations, analysing the impact of programmes and interventions to help them do more of what works and less of what doesn’t for young people. As well as tailored consultancy and support for our partners, we support schools and organisations to collect and evaluate educational data through an in-house digital tool (our “School Impact Platform”) – which this project would support.

The opportunity

We are seeking an experienced data engineer to help transform our data infrastructure to better manage our growing dataset of over 14 billion records and create more efficient analytics capabilities. This is a hands-on technical role that will involve both strategic advisory work and practical implementation.

Initially a fixed-term project of around 3-4 months, working to the project outcomes, there may be opportunities for longer-term advisory and technical support following completion if this is of interest.

We are happy for you to work flexibly although would expect the majority of your time to be committed to this project. We expect the work to be conducted predominantly remotely, with a few key meetings in person at our London offices, though you are welcome to use our office space throughout. We anticipate the project being outside of IR35.

What will you do?

Our School Impact Platform brings together existing data from schools (for example, on student demographics and attendance at school) and other forms of data (for example, surveys on student wellbeing and motivation) to help school leaders and educational organisations better understand the impact of their educational choices and programmes.

Part of this involves processing significant data from schools, and we are looking at options for how this could be handled more effectively and be more easily extracted for analysis.

We currently have 14 billion records in a PostgreSQL table, which we believe could be stored more cost effectively and allow for faster data retrieval by using new or alternative data stores. We would also like to develop data pipelines to take data from Postgres to serve analytics use cases, either in new Postgres tables or potentially in a data warehouse or similar.

We would like someone to help identify the best solutions for both areas, assuming our assumptions are correct, and lead the majority of the implementation. You would work closely with our in-house software development team and an existing consultant with experience in data analytics.

Main Purpose of the Role:

To be responsible for the implementation and day to day project management of the individual giving programme across both existing and new fundraising products, maintaining strong relationships with suppliers, members, volunteers and internal teams across Mothers’ Union to ensure the success of the appeals. As part of a small team you will be working closely with and under the direction of the Head of Individual Giving.

Key Responsibilities:

• To project manage multiple appeals delivering accurate campaigns on time, on budget to a high standard, meeting agreed targets.
• Analyse and interpret direct marketing campaign results, and produce regular reports, drawing conclusions, completing campaign reviews and making recommendations to improve future activity such as targeting and testing suggestions to improve performance of the programme and feed into longer term strategic plans.

• Lead on any challenge events or wider individual DIY fundraising or organisational  income generating events as assigned, meeting agreed targets set by the Head of Individual Giving.
• Monitoring, managing and reporting of key KPIs including campaign income, spend and other performance metrics on a regular basis. Work Location/Hybrid Working Pattern

This role will be based at our Head Office in central London. Mothers’ Union operates a hybrid working model. Tuesdays are our anchor days where every staff member is expected to be at the office. The 90 days includes anchor Tuesdays. This is an exciting time to join Sands as we are in a period of ambitious growth. This role will make a valuable contribution to Sands’ fundraising strategy and will help to deliver a range of new and existing fundraising activities in our programme. 

In this new role you will be responsible for the management of our online fundraising communities, assist with the promotion, recruitment, and logistics of several of our fundraising activities as well as helping to improve and streamline our stewardship processes.

The post-holder will develop and build positive relationships with our supporters to ensure that they all receive a great supporter experience, and to help to maximise our fundraiser income and supporter engagement.  Additionally, you will help Sands to recruit and deliver our fundraising activities to the highest of standards and ensure that all our fundraisers feel valued through excellent stewardship.

You will have relevant experience of event fundraising, a good understanding of social media’s role within this area and be able to demonstrate experience of digital advertising. A highly effective communicator, you will have excellent written and verbal skills and be confident in responding to supporters needs.

We’re looking for our next Paid Media Specialist to join our high performing Digital Mobilisation and Engagement team at Refuge. You will be responsible for designing and implementing digital acquisition and paid media strategies that grow our supporter base, increase income and win campaigns. You’ll support teams across the organisation by providing specialist knowledge of digital paid media to improve the overall effectiveness and efficiency of our digital programme. An expert in digital acquisition and advertising, you’ll be experienced at setting up integrated campaigns across paid social, programmatic, PPC and display - ensuring campaigns are tracked and optimised for maximum return. You’ll also bring comprehensive knowledge of digital best practice and regularly stay on top of emerging trends, threats and opportunities.

As Paid Media Specialist, you’ll play a crucial role in facilitating the team’s aim to grow Refuge’s supporter base to half a million engaged supporters over the next three years. You will also work closely with other teams such as Campaigns, Policy and Public Fundraising, enabling our ambition to change attitudes and policies around domestic abuse, and raise funds to support Refuge’s vital work through digital acquisition and mobilisation.
