Job Purpose

One Place London is a community interest company located in West London engaged in Acting for Film and Music Recording workshops for young people aged 14-25, unemployed or at risk of getting involved in crime. Say Aphasia is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled volunteer grant writer to join our small but dedicated team. As a proactive member of our charity, you will help secure funding to support people living with Aphasia—a communication disability that affects over 360,000 people across the UK.

Job description:

As our Grant Writer you will be responsible for identifying appropriate grant opportunities, and managing the grant development and proposal process from research to submitting grant applications with any supporting documents.

As our grant writer, you will:

• Identify appropriate sources of funding where we fit their criteria. 

• Write appropriately tailored grant/funding bids that meet funders’ interests and requirements and to write any additional documents in support of funding bids.

• Help develop a Trusts and Foundations strategy to help create and maintain strong and diverse income that meets Say Aphasia’s funding needs.

• Create a calendar of grant deadlines and track submitted funding proposals.

• Help us develop a case for support.

• The bid writer will receive a percentage from successful funding received from their submitted applications.

If you are an experienced grant writer or you just enjoy researching and persuasive writing then we would love to hear from you.

We are looking for a someone who has:

• Experience of being a grant writer, project proposal writer, marketing, or nonprofit development.

• Excellent writing, analytical, and research skills are essential.

You would be working closely with the charity’s Service Manager, with regular updates and remote meetings as needed. We have an induction process that will help successful applicants to understand how our charity operates. We would like to offer the volunteer a commission on successful grant applications. 

What are we looking for?

A talented, reliable and committed individual with varied commercial and charity experience, to provide additional guidance and contribute to the strategic direction of the charity, as Chair of Trustees and line manager to the centre’s General Manager.

Previous experience in a similar environment and/or third sector role will be helpful, particularly with Board or Executive Committee experience. Other specific business skills will be useful in supporting and coaching the existing team, for example:

Financial Management; Business Development/Sales; Strategy, Organisation and Planning; Operational Management; Leadership/Coaching; Law/Contracts; Governance; Facilities Management; Fundraising; Marketing; Digital/Social; Safeguarding; Health & Safety.

Most importantly, we are looking for DRIVE and PASSION that aligns with our purpose and charitable aims, and for commitment to support our strategic direction and commercial success.  We need an open, collaborative team player with talents that will complement our existing Trustee skillset, and the ability to understand and oversee the full operation.

The time commitment requires virtual or on-site attendance at quarterly Board meetings and other ad hoc committee meetings, including participating in occasional community events. Regular line management meetings and site visits will also be necessary to monitor progress, provide advice and gain the required insight to be the critical friend to the charity.

Organisation of meetings, and support to the executive team is anticipated to take around 5 hours per week, although this could vary significantly, as specific projects may involve additional work and time.  

What will you be doing?

As an individual with experience and knowledge of how successful organisations operate, you will coordinate meetings and make decisions with the Board of Trustees and the General Manager to help design, implement and support strategies that will enhance the long-term sustainability of the charity. You will work closely with other Trustees, and get to know about clients, staff, partners and beneficiaries. You will make a difference by bringing your commercial acumen, and specialist knowledge to drive efficiency within the charity’s operations and ensure that opportunities to demonstrate best practice are identified in all that we do. You will be curious and willing to challenge the status quo, but also support, coach and mentor.

As Chair of the Board you will ensure that meetings are relevant, timely, well planned, structured and concise. In doing all of this, you will play a key role in helping to secure the future of the charity by achieving its objectives in the immediate and long term.

Preference may be given to individuals who are connected to our community, with local knowledge and networks. We will also welcome diversity on the Board, in our quest to represent our community fully, particularly youth, disability and ethnic minorities.

EASTLEIGH YOUTH AND COMMUNITY TRUST - What do we do?

We are an independent charity, based at the Pavilion on the Park in Eastleigh. We exist to promote active and flourishing lives by creating a variety of energising and enriching experiences which connect people and build community. We do this by:

-   managing a purpose-built inclusive community building, available for public hire;

-   engaging people in social, recreational, and cultural activities which promote personal development, wellbeing and connection;

-   working with other local organisations towards a shared common purpose of developing a thriving community and improving lives in Eastleigh;

-   adopting a ‘whole-systems approach’ to place-making in Eastleigh;

People come together regularly at the Pavilion on the Park for many different reasons. On average, around 500 people a week benefit from the numerous, varied activities and events that take place. These include participants in both Trust-led and hirer-led activities, private bookings, and customers of our café.

We are delighted to have recently secured almost £500k from the National Lottery Reaching Communities Fund to deliver a five-year community project. This will enable us to develop new activities and opportunities which are led by the communities we serve.

Our current Trust-led programme of activities include:

One4all – a social and recreational programme for adults with additional needs.

Little Pixies & Pixies Plus – stay, learn and play activities for 0–8-year-olds and their adult carers.

Cycles4all – adapted bikes available for hire five days a week.

Sensory4all – specialist sensory therapy in a purpose-designed space

Connect2Thrive –activities which bring the community together in collective action to promote sustainable and self-sufficient living and good physical and mental health.

In addition, The Blackbird Café is open seven-days a week and provides locally sourced, home-cooked cakes and savouries. It is a social hub for dog walkers, park runners, activity groups and friendship groups. It is a popular choice for people with disabilities who have the confidence of an inclusive environment and a Changing Places facility on hand. We are also home to many regular hirers, including Aspire Martial Arts, Thrive Church, 4th Eastleigh Scouts, Laura Green Yoga, Harmony Twirlers, and many more.

We level the playing field for athletic sponsorships enabling more athletes to reach their full potential.

Large brands and agencies dominate the sports sponsorship marketplace. As a result, many athletes, including female, disabled, and LGBTQ+ athletes from various ethnicities or lower socioeconomic backgrounds, are often left without sponsors and access to what they need to reach their potential.

In addition, many sponsors need help finding and developing a genuine connection with an athlete, which leads to issues connecting with their audiences. There is no way to search for sponsors or athletes directly without involving costly agencies. Transparency and self-management are crucial in democratising the marketplace. The opportunity to make this sector more equitable is now.

We have built an innovative self-managed athlete-sponsorship platform focused on unique connections between sponsors and athletes. Sponsors, athletes, and fans can sign-up. Athletes create a public profile page with information and media about themselves. Sponsors create campaigns which athletes & teams search and apply for. In addition, all users can follow athletes who post on our social feed. Negotiation steps are in-built before the contract is confirmed; secure payment is taken for the sponsorship amount and held securely. As milestones are reached, an athlete's payment percentage is released, protecting both sides. our latest build has developed our campaign area, where marketing assets are now auto-generated in the brand and athlete voice through AI and ML implementation. Once a campaign has gone live, there is now a dashboard that shows its engagement success and delivers the data points you would expect to understand for each campaign alongside a social value calculation that maps to the SDGs and other CSR markers.

Letchworth Foodbank is seeking an inspiring and strategic Chair of the Board to lead the next chapter of our growth.

We have a clear mission: the prevention or relief of poverty in Letchworth, Hitchin and Baldock in particular, but not exclusively, by providing emergency food supplies and financial support to individuals in need and/or charities or other organisations working to relieve poverty.

Receiving donations and grants of over £200,000 per annum, the Foodbank distributes over 40 tonnes of food and £50,000 of food vouchers every year to those that need it most.

Our strategy is not to stand still, but to increase our reach and impact, and we require a Chair that shares our ambitions and will help drive a clear strategy forwards with the Trustees, working closely with the Foodbank Director.

They implement and manage research projects, collect and analyse data, and report findings of said research. Their work helps shape IWI’s policy decisions, social reforms, and human interactions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

o Understand the needs of the project, i.e. the research questions it needs to answer;

o Design an appropriate methodology to deliver the project;

o Design and write survey questionnaires;

o Apply a range of research techniques to gather relevant information, including document analysis, surveys, case studies and interviews (face-to-face, telephone and online);

o Liaise with and direct social research field interviewers to gather information;

o Gather information by directing or carrying out qualitative fieldwork;

o Conduct reviews of relevant literature and evidence;

o Analyse and evaluate research and interpret data using a range of analysis packages;

o Prepare, present and disseminate results in the form of reports, briefings, research papers and presentations;

o Offer research-based briefings and advice, which may involve writing action plans;

o Advise external bodies on social policy;

o Prepare and present tenders for new research projects or respond to research tenders prepared by others.

SKILLS

o Quantitative and qualitative research skills for undertaking tasks such as interviewing, survey design and controlled trials;

o Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills;

o The ability to think logically and creatively;

o A natural sense of curiosity to understand social issues and the impact policy can have;

o Good verbal and written communication skills, to write reports and present findings;

o Strong interpersonal skills for developing and maintaining relationships;

o Teamworking skills and the ability to work well independently;

o Confidence in using Microsoft office software and a range of digital tools and platforms;

o Project management skills to oversee all aspects of a research project right through from initial plans to the final report;

o Accuracy and attention to detail for handling data and reporting research findings;

o A flexible approach to work, with the ability to work on several different research projects simultaneously;

o Organisation skills, good time management and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

REQUIREMENTS

o Fluency in English is a MUST. Additional UN languages are a plus;

o At least 4 years of research experience;

o At least 2 years of experience working for a government authority, INGO and/or private sector.

Our fundraising volunteers use their passion for cats and people to raise the vital funds needed to help more cats and kittens in need. As a fundraising volunteer we want to support you to fundraise in whatever way suits you best, whether that’s organising a fundraising event, fundraising online, promoting fundraising activities on social media, completing administration or supporting the development of new fundraising ideas! Whatever your skill set, this could be the role for you!

What we need from you

This is a really flexible role, you can choose what you’d like to get involved with, for example: 

• face-to-face fundraising. Organising or helping with fundraising events, running supermarket collections and fundraising stands, monitoring collection tins 

• online fundraising. Setting up online appeals and writing impactful cat case studies that maximise donations

• marketing. Spreading the word about our fundraising activities, for example on social media and with the local press  

• completing administration. Processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, completing Gift Aid paperwork

● championing our work. Getting involved with developing new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement

● photography. Capturing images of cats in care, cats we are helping, events and all things Cats Protection

Time expectation

This is a flexible role that can fit around your other commitments to suit you. You’ll be part of a team raising vital funds while having fun in the process!
