London National Park City is looking for a highly collaborative Community Director to join our growing team. You will help us develop and enhance the way all Londoners can participate every day in making our city greener, healthier and wilder.

London National Park City is the long term grassroots movement for everyone making London greener, healthier and wilder. London became the world's first National Park City in 2019 with aim of making our city a place where people and nature are better connected.

This new senior role will be responsible for developing a deeply participatory approach to what it means to be part of the London National Park City community and movement. You will draw upon the wealth of experiments, storytelling, and community programming which has already taken place, and shape the next stage of how we build our movement, and support grassroots communities in every neighbourhood of London.

The core of this role will be the stewardship of our Ranger programme, supporting our community of volunteer Rangers, along with recruiting and managing local Ranger Coordinators in a number of London Boroughs as funding is secured. Key to this will be developing relationships with partner civil society organisations, and working closely with our Partnerships Manager.

You’ll be experienced in building and supporting ‘on’ and ‘offline’ communities, and keen to learn and adopt new and engaging approaches to membership, while sharing what you learn with the wider team and community.

You’ll be disciplined, organised and an excellent verbal and written communicator. You’ll be creative, and willing to chip in, helping out across the organisation, and keeping all our stakeholders and partners informed.

• Experience in an equivalent community management, membership or partnership, or demonstrable experience of transferable skills.
• Demonstrable experience of movement and community building both on and offline, with strong digital skills and a strong affinity of the role of participatory membership.
• An ability to communicate, present to, and coordinate with a wide range of people at all levels of a variety of organisations.

Salary and benefits

You will be joining and fully participating in a unique and inspirational community of changemakers and storytellers, active across London and increasingly around the world.

This is a permanent role and the salary range is £45,000 to £50,000 dependent on experience. We are open to applications for part-time or other flexible working arrangements.

You will have 25 holiday days allowance per year (pro rata for part-time staff).

Following successful completion of a 3 month probationary period, we will enrol you in our Nest pension scheme, and will make additional payments of 4% as long as you contribute 4% of your salary each month.

Crisis is the national charity for people experiencing homelessness. In 2024 we embarked on our new 10-year strategy for ending homelessness. We know it is not inevitable. We know together we can end it.

• As part of our flexible working policy, you will be free to work remotely for the majority of your time if you prefer. However, you will need to be able to be in London when required for events and in person meetings with partners and trustees, team planning days and other duties as part of our senior management team. The role

This key leadership role is at the core of a very successful and ambitious directorate, one that has seen some wonderful achievements across all income streams. This includes award-winning partnerships from the corporate sector, with partners including McDonalds, KPMG and The Premier League, in addition to a fantastic array of trusts and foundations, and strategic relationships with national bodies such as Arts Council of England and the Department of Education.

The Director of Development will continue our impressive growth trajectory and inspire a team of talented and ambitious fundraisers to success. You will work closely with the CEO and fellow members of the Senior Leadership Team, as well as being a key contact for delivery colleagues and programme leads.

About you

You will be an experienced and compelling leader, someone who can demonstrate a successful track record building and delivering fundraising strategies. You will need to show success in achieving income growth, and be experienced across several income streams, including managing strategic partnerships from the corporate world, working strategically with national bodies (e.g. Arts Council) and a deep understanding of fundraising campaigns. You will have exceptional communication skills across all audiences, including working at board level, and have an excellent understanding of financial planning and reporting. You will be a natural leader, who can engage, motivate and inspire the development department, and play a key part in building a strong and inclusive organisational culture, as part of our ED&I commitments.

As Finance & Operations Director (FOD) you will be responsible for the financial stability of the organisation and maintaining appropriate financial management. Supporting the Finance Manager and Business Administration & Finance Officer to deliver the organisations’ strategies around finance and operations (IT, HR, premises, etc).

Working closely with the CEO, Deputy CEO & Director of Programmes & Impact as well as the organisation’s Board of Trustees to ensure that the delivery of the strategy and business plan is successful and that the organisations’ assets are safeguarded.

Essential Experience, Knowledge and Competencies:

• A member of one of the CCAB accounting bodies.
• Demonstable experience as a financial manager.
• Ability to think strategically about operations and organisational needs.
• An understanding off the constraints of having small staff teams and the flexibility to shift focus of activities when necessary.

Desirable Experience, Knowledge and Competencies:

• Experience of working in a small to medium sized organisation.
• Understanding and familiarisation of financial and regulatory requirements of the charity sector.
• Understanding of organisation IT and resource needs and how to use these to support staff in their roles.
• Understanding of, and/or lived experience of, the barriers that young people face, that contribute to the education and employment gap.
