Responsible to: Recovery Space Manager.

Location: Croydon Health and Wellbeing Space in the Whitgift Centre.

Main purpose of job:

The aim of the service is to divert people away from Emergency Department. The Recovery Space Workers provide a non-clinical, warm and welcoming setting to support individuals in crisis, assess their needs, provide emotional support and to help develop coping strategies.

The day crisis worker role involves running 1:1 sessions with clients, supporting the with the drop-in at the Croydon Health and Wellbeing Space, where clients in crisis can drop-in for immediate support between 10am-1pm on Monday-Saturday, running group sessions promoting coping skills to clients, engaging in managerial and clinical supervisions, engaging in team meetings and completing administrative duties as required.

The purpose of the role is to assist our clients with immigration legal advice and representation. The focus of this legal work is on non-legal aid funded matters, supporting people to preserve immigration status and for some become British Citizens. While the majority of the immigration advice and representation at RMJ is free for clients, this service we charge an affordable fee to help those who cannot find affordable and professional representation.

Key Responsibilities 

Case management:

• Manage own caseload, working to advance the best interests of the client
• Adhere to standards set out by IAA/SRA and AQS to deliver high-quality advice#
• Provide advice and representation up to IAA level 2/3.
• Engage with the Line Manager to create and follow a training plan to ensure compliance with IAA CPD, keeping up to date with changes in law, policy and guidance to ensure clients receive accurate and high-quality advice
• Liaise directly with the UKVI and related governmental agencies 
• Complete forms, letters and immigration applications in line with deadlines
• Liaise with and refer clients to Legal Aid Solicitors or other advisers, as appropriate
• Manage clients’ expectations by discussing deadlines, outcomes and timing
• Deliver legal advice outreach surgeries/drop in as and when required
• Progress cases in a timely manner in line with regulatory requirements

Education/Qualifications:

IAA accredited. Upon obtaining a higher level of accreditation, the candidateʼs salary will increase in line with RMJ pay scales.

Practising Solicitor with 1-year immigration experience.

IAAS level 2 caseworkers (non-solicitor) will be considered but if appointed must be prepared to work under supervision and qualify at IAA level 1 within 6 months (Training is provided and study leave is accommodated). Upon obtaining a higher level of IAA accreditation, the candidateʼs salary will increase in line with RMJ pay scales.

You will play a key role in supporting our residents who have left prison and are based within a residential setting to reintegrate into the community. You will develop and engage with our residents to produce tailored support plans which support their individual needs in successful rehabilitation and reintegration within the community. You will identify their needs, goals and skills, and then support and motivate them to achieve their potential. The service holds a strong focus on public protection and effective risk management.

The Programmes Executive plays a central role in making our weekly Drop-in a welcoming, well-organised and valuable space for homeless and vulnerably housed adults.

The Drop-in is the primary focus of this role. It is a hands-on operational and frontline position, with responsibility for helping the Drop-in run smoothly from preparation through to close. This includes managing deliveries and donations, ensuring the venue and kitchen are properly set up, organising resources, coordinating and briefing volunteers, working with security and overseeing the practical flow of the evening.

The role is about more than logistics. The Executive will be a key guiding presence in the space, helping to shape its structure, atmosphere and culture. They will be visible and approachable, build positive relationships with guests, anticipate and manage issues, support volunteers and help ensure that the Drop-in is calm, welcoming, safe and respectful.

The Executive will also listen to what is happening on the ground, identify what is working and what could be improved and feed this back to the wider team. They will help guests understand and access relevant RESTART LIVES programmes and opportunities. They will be an important part of the Programmes team, supporting essential data and reporting, researching and sourcing facilitators, helping with programme logistics, contributing ideas for new activities and opportunities for guests and attending selected sessions. As part of this, they will run or help to run some activities such as Zumba, film club and board games before the main Drop-in service. These provide another opportunity to build trusted relationships with guests and encourage engagement with wider support.

The Level 2 IAA Adviser will provide high-quality, regulated immigration advice within a charity setting, supporting refugees, asylum seekers, migrants and other people facing immigration-related barriers. The postholder will manage a varied caseload within their authorised Immigration Advice Authority level and category, deliver accessible and compassionate advice, prepare applications and representations, and help clients understand their rights, options and next steps. The role will contribute to the charity’s mission to promote dignity, inclusion and access to justice for people who may be vulnerable, marginalised or unable to afford private legal advice.

• Provide IAA-immigration advice within the permitted scope of Level 2.

Job Purpose

As one of our High Support Needs IDVAs, you will be part of our experienced and dedicated adult team reporting to the HSN IDVA Manager covering the Canterbury District area, and your role will include a mixture of working from Catching Lives homeless centre, community and office working.

You’ll be providing a high-quality, frontline service to survivors of domestic abuse and play a crucial role in advocacy, risk assessment, safety planning and empowerment for our clients with more complex needs. You will assist them in recognising the features and dynamics of domestic abuse which are impacting their situation and help them to regain control of their lives. You will support them to make informed and safe choices and to move forward. You will provide a weekly drop-in at Catching Lives and will co-work with clients as appropriate.

Alongside working with survivors, you will develop and maintain productive relationships with partner organisations to strengthen multi-agency working and improve service outcomes for survivors. As the HSN IDVA, you will provide enhanced casework support to individuals within the EHCF client group, delivering support in community settings, in partnership with agencies such as Porchlight and the RSI team, and remotely via telephone where appropriate.

We are looking for someone with a genuine passion for supporting people who is confident, resilient and can build strong relationships.

You will have experience of delivering domestic abuse interventions with survivors, including some whose individual circumstances are more complex. This might include clients with issues such as homelessness, poor mental health or drugs and alcohol use.

The nature of this work and being exposed to survivors’ trauma and challenges can have a negative impact on our own wellbeing as support workers, and therefore good self-awareness and the ability to recognise our own needs and put in place appropriate boundaries is essential. All team members are expected to exercise self-care and attend regular clinical supervision to mitigate the potential impact of vicarious trauma.

Main duties and responsibilities

• Provide high quality case work support and information to victims/survivors who have experienced domestic and/ or sexual violence and have high support needs.
• Support those who are experiencing domestic and sexual abuse to access services to keep themselves (and their children) safe and address their needs
• Identify and assess the needs of domestic abuse victims using an evidence-based risk identification checklist while taking a trauma informed approach
• Provide 1:1 support to survivors in the Ashford, Canterbury and Folkestone and Hythe districts, either over the phone, in community venues or at Rising Sun offices
• Manage a caseload in accordance with organisational policies and procedures and adhere to confidentiality
• Work as part of a team, supporting colleagues and building positive working-relationships with team members
• Attend regular clinical supervision and case review meetings
• Hold weekly information and advice drop in sessions and facilitate relevant programmes when required i.e. Freedom Programme
• Participate in street walks to meet and build relationships and trust with street homeless
• Advocate for high-risk victims with agencies who can help to address the domestic abuse by:
  • Understanding the role of all relevant statutory and non-statutory services available to domestic abuse victims and how your role fits into them.
  • Providing advocacy, emotional and practical support and information to survivors including in relation to legal options, housing, health and finance. 
  • Effective partnership working with all key agency partners (including housing and other specialist services, such as drug and alcohol support) to address the safety of high-risk victims and ensuring that their safety plans are coordinated particularly through the MARAC (multi-agency risk assessment conference).
• Identify training opportunities and provide training and support for housing staff and other relevant agencies as appropriate
• Provide both formal training and informal guidance/casework support to Catching Lives staff.
• Work with volunteers (where appropriate) to enhance the capacity of the service
• Be responsible for personal well-being and exercise appropriate self-care
• Attend wider team meetings to share learning and feed into organisational developments

Self-Advocacy Team Leader

Learning Disability Voices Network (LDVN)

Lead a project that helps people with learning disabilities have a stronger voice and greater influence

Brighton & Hove Speak Out is looking for an experienced, passionate and values-driven leader to manage and develop our flagship self-advocacy project, the Learning Disability Voices Network (LDVN).

This is an exciting opportunity to join a respected local advocacy charity at a time of growth and development. Thanks to new National Lottery funding, we are expanding opportunities for people with learning disabilities to build confidence, develop self-advocacy skills, influence decision-making and create positive change in their communities.

As Self-Advocacy Team Leader, you will lead the delivery of the LDVN project, support a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, and ensure people with learning disabilities remain at the heart of planning, delivery and decision-making.

About the role

You will be responsible for leading and coordinating all aspects of the Learning Disability Voices Network, including:

• Lead a team of 4 part-time project staff and volunteers across Brighton & Hove and West Sussex, supporting people with learning disabilities to identify issues that matter to them and take action to bring about change.
• Develop partnerships, local and national networks that strengthen self-advocacy opportunities.
• Support the LDVN steering group to plan and co-deliver self-advocacy events and training activities.
• Support and develop user-led self-advocacy groups, including support for an established user-led campaign group and the development of a new LGBTQ+ self-advocacy group.
• Oversee a weekly drop-in service in Brighton and the expansion of self-advocacy activity into West Sussex.
• Work with self-advocates to plan a learning disability-led regional conference
• Manage project budgets, monitoring systems, evaluation processes and funder reporting requirements.
• Work closely with the CEO to develop and strengthen the project's long-term impact and sustainability.

Above all, you will ensure people with learning disabilities are supported to gain the skills, confidence and opportunities they need to speak up, influence decisions and lead change.

About you

We are looking for someone who:

• Is passionate about the rights, inclusion and empowerment of people with learning disabilities.
• Has experience leading projects, services, staff or volunteers.
• Understands the principles and practice of self-advocacy and person-centred support.
• Has experience of supporting people who may face discrimination, exclusion or barriers to participation.
• Can inspire and support others to develop confidence, skills and leadership.
• Has excellent communication, organisational and relationship-building skills.
• Is confident managing multiple priorities, monitoring outcomes and meeting targets.
• Can build effective partnerships with professionals, community organisations and stakeholders.
• Is committed to equality, inclusion, accessibility and safeguarding.

Experience of working alongside people with learning disabilities is highly desirable.

Birmingham and Solihull Women’s Aid have for over 45 years supported women and children with services around domestic violence and abuse. Could you be a part of our team as we continue our mission to end domestic violence and abuse? 

The region’s leading charity in tackling violence against women and girls, BSWA offers a helpline, webchat, drop in and and community support as well as emergency accommodation in six refuges across the area.

Projects supports women in the criminal justice system, in healthcare settings, and throughout the community, offering support to women and children experiencing domestic violence. Alongside this, we also have staff offering training and consultancy to businesses and health and social care professionals alike, raising awareness on gender based violence issues.

Key Responsibilities - 

To work as part of a team to provide emotional and practical support to women and children affected by violence and abuse through our Early Intervention hub and helpline service.

Experience Required -

Of providing practical and emotional support to women and children affected by domestic violence

Of offering advice and information and advocating for service users on a range of issues including homelessness, benefits, legal, social welfare issues etc

Of developing and maintaining effective working relationships with external agencies 

Of working within safeguarding guidelines to protect and promote the well-being of children and vulnerable adults
