Role Requirements
To be successful in this role, you’ll demonstrate:

This role is pivotal in leading on all business development and services-marketing activity to drive and increase brand awareness to ultimately generate referrals, whilst strengthening our position to be the provider of choice to support children with acquired brain injury and neurodisability across the UK and internationally.
You’ll work alongside a cross-organisational team to promote our services to external stakeholders, in particular managing our key account plan to influence, maximise referrals and income generating opportunities. You will work with the Assistant Principal Learner Services to define, articulate and

The Philharmonia is looking to appoint an experienced and inspiring Head of Education & Community Engagement to lead on the day to day running of learning projects, with a firm focus on developing and growing this work. With a proven track record of creative leadership, innovation and producing high quality music education and community projects, successful applicants will be led by a passionate belief in the power of orchestral music to transform lives, whether as audiences or participants.
Centred around our ambition to deepen our engagement in our residencies in and out of London, this role will be responsible for the creative and strategic development and execution of both our long-established programmes (like Hear and Now, and Orchestra Unwrapped), as well as co-creating and developing new, innovative projects addressing real needs in schools and community settings. The role will have a strong direct connection with our Community Boards, the advisory bodies in our residency areas, and the Music Hubs, as partners and co-creators. Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning:

Undertake research and mapping as required to ensure that projects and programmes respond to local and regional needs and is distinctive and complementary in the context of other providers.

Leadership and Management:

Provide creative leadership and direction for the Learning and Engagement Department, reflecting and clearly articulating the Philharmonia’s vision, mission and values

Sustain and strengthen existing partnerships for funding and delivery with key stakeholders including other NPOs, Local Authorities, Music Education Hubs, community groups, arts organisations and venues, private and public development agencies and schools, colleges and universities.

Location: Hybrid with daily travel to schools in London

About the Role
As Programme Manager you will oversee the delivery of an impactful tuition programme across a group of London schools, including a Saturday programme in Southwark for one term (Time Off in Lieu granted for hours worked). This is a fantastic opportunity to combine your educational experience with programme and people management responsibilities in a mission-driven organisation.
You’ll work directly with pupils, tutors, and school staff to ensure sessions run smoothly and have real impact, helping young people double their expected progress.
Key responsibilities include:
- Planning, organising, and facilitating weekly in-school tuition sessions (term time)
- Designing and delivering tutor and volunteer training
- Ensuring safeguarding and wellbeing procedures are followed
- Analysing programme data, reporting on outcomes, and recommending next steps
- Building and maintaining school partnerships
- Contributing to curriculum development and programme improvement
- Supporting organisational growth and managing specific projects
About You
We’re looking for someone who combines educational experience with excellent organisation, people skills, and a genuine passion for improving pupil outcomes.
You will need:
- QTS and experience in classroom or youth settings
- A degree in any subject and a strong academic background
- Strong organisational and data analysis skills
- Confidence working independently and taking ownership of outcomes
- Excellent communication skills with young people and professionals
- A commitment to safeguarding and child protection
Desirable:
- Volunteer or project management experience
- Experience with Key Stage 3 or 4 exam preparation
- Existing Enhanced DBS with Childs’ Barred list on Update Service

What you’ll be doing …
We are looking for a strategic and proactive fundraiser to lead the launch and delivery of a capital campaign to refurbish our Grade II* listed Lecture Theatre at Burlington House - a flagship project to enhance accessibility, sustainability and the visitor experience at the heart of our historic home.
Alongside this, you will support income generation across a range of charitable programmes, including education, outreach and member engagement, helping to grow both restricted and unrestricted income and strengthen the Society’s long-term supporter base.
This is a highly collaborative role focused on delivery. You will lead day-to-day campaign activity, with particular emphasis on individual giving, donor engagement and external communications. You will also play a key role in building the systems, processes and approaches that will underpin future fundraising success, supporting the Society’s wider ambition to grow income and resilience over the next decade.

- Lead the capital fundraising campaign for the refurbishment of our Grade II* listed Lecture Theatre, driving income growth through individual giving, corporate partnerships and trust funding.
- Generate income to support our education and outreach campaigns, working collaboratively with colleagues in education, outreach and communications to engage a broad range of supporters.
- Shape compelling cases for support and deliver segmented donor communications that resonate with different audience groups.
- Strengthen internal fundraising infrastructure by improving systems, processes and reporting, ensuring the Society is well-positioned for future income growth.
- Support the Director of Membership & Development by preparing briefing materials, contributing to proposals, and identifying prospects for large gifts or grants.
- Manage timelines, budgets, and reporting related to campaign activity.
- Liaise with external suppliers, funders and design/marketing support as required.
What we’re looking for …
Essential
- Proven experience in a senior fundraising role, ideally within a charity, cultural or education focused setting.
- Demonstrated success delivering capital appeals and/or public fundraising campaigns.
- Track record of securing donations from individuals, major donors, companies and/or trusts.
- Experience developing and implementing fundraising strategies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong interpersonal skills.
- Organised, self-motivated and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Understanding of establishing individual giving methods, including regular giving, legacy fundraising and digital channels.
- Familiarity with CRM systems (ideally Dynamics 365).
- Knowledge of fundraising regulation, GDPR and best practice in donor data handling.
Desirable
- Experience working on heritage, science or education-related campaigns.
- Experience collaborating with senior stakeholders, volunteers or boards/committees.
- Member of the Chartered Institute of Fundraising.
