League Football Education (LFE) was established in 2004 by The English Football League (EFL) and The Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) to deliver the Sporting Excellence Apprenticeship to the 16 to 18 year old apprentice footballers at EFL clubs. We are also responsible for a full-time 16-19 Study Programme at various Football Club Charities (FCC), who complete sport related qualifications in order to progress to University or full-time employment.
LFE is a niche national training provider, funded by the Department for Education (DfE) to deliver the above two programmes with in excess of 1,100 apprentices and 500 Study Programme learners on programme.
The main purpose of the role is to provide oversight and support the Board, with a specialism and experience of the Education Inspection Framework (EIF), providing scrutiny and challenge to the Senior Team regarding Ofsted expectations together with an awareness of DfE requirements.
LFE is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic INED to join our Board to actively contribute to the strategic direction and evaluate performance.
LFE was judge as “Outstanding” in all aspects in February 2023 and strives to be “Exceptional” in the next inspection.
Applicants will be asked about any previous convictions and cautions. Amendments to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (2013 and 2020) provides that when applying for certain jobs and activities, certain convictions and cautions are considered ‘protected’. About the role

Board meetings take place in person at our Tadworth site in Surrey, and we have a strong preference for in-person attendance to maximise engagement and relationship building, though we maintain some flexibility for online participation in certain circumstances. Chair of Trustees
As Chair, you will provide inspirational leadership and clear direction to the Board, ensuring effective governance, long-term sustainability, and strategic excellence across all that we do. You will play a pivotal role in supporting and constructively challenging our CEO and senior leadership team to deliver lasting social impact and drive performance across the organisation.

As Chair, you will:

Chair of the Resources Committee
The Chair of the Resources Committee leads on financial stewardship, ensuring the Charity’s funds and resources are managed responsibly, transparently, and in line with our charitable objectives and legal obligations. The Committee oversees finance, investments, HR, IT, and other resource-related areas.
As Committee Chair, you will:
- Lead the Resources Committee, ensuring meetings are well-organised, effective, and aligned with the Charity’s governance framework.
- Provide strategic guidance and oversight on finance, staffing, and resource allocation.
- Advise the Board on the financial implications of major decisions and long-term plans.
- Lead the annual budget review and monitor performance against financial plans and reserves policies.
- Ensure robust management of investments, reserves, and overall financial sustainability.
- Work collaboratively with the Chief Executive and senior team to support effective resource planning.
- Liaise with the Chair of the Risk and Audit Committee to strengthen financial controls and risk management.
- Support the preparation and presentation of annual accounts, ensuring clarity and transparency.
- Keep the Board informed of its financial duties and promote openness in public reporting.
Safeguarding Trustee
The Safeguarding Trustee works closely with the CEO and Designated Safeguarding Leads to provide assurance to the Board that safeguarding remains a strategic priority across the Charity. They ensure our safeguarding framework is robust, effective, and fully compliant with legal, regulatory, and sector expectations.
As Safeguarding Trustee, you will:
- Provide assurance to the Board on the effectiveness of safeguarding practices and compliance with statutory requirements.
- Offer guidance and expertise in developing and monitoring the Charity’s safeguarding, child protection, and Prevent strategies, policies, and action plans.
- Ensure safeguarding considerations are embedded in all strategic decisions and risk management processes.
- Champion a strong, transparent, and inclusive safeguarding culture aligned with our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion commitments.
- Ensure arrangements meet legislative and regulatory expectations, including Ofsted and statutory guidance such as Keeping Children Safe in Education.
- Work with trustees and senior staff to embed safeguarding across all learning environments and youth-focused provision.
- Monitor the implementation of safeguarding and Prevent action plans, escalating risks or concerns to the Board where necessary.
- Provide assurance that safeguarding concerns are reported, escalated, and addressed appropriately, with clear routes for staff, learners, and the public to raise issues.
- Represent Central YMCA’s safeguarding commitment externally, promoting best practice with partners, funders, and sector bodies.
- Attend Board meetings, relevant sub-committees, and safeguarding briefings, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding and Prevent developments.
- Support transparency by promoting public visibility of safeguarding arrangements, including statements and reporting routes.

Chair of Resources Committee
The ideal candidate will bring:
- A recognised financial qualification (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or substantial senior financial management experience.
- A strong understanding of education and charity finance, SORP, and relevant regulatory requirements.
- Excellent analytical and evaluation skills, with the ability to exercise good judgement and interpret complex information.
- The ability to chair meetings effectively, foster collaboration, and build consensus.
- A solid understanding of governance principles, business models, finance, funding, and charity regulation compliance.
- The interpersonal skills to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.
Safeguarding Trustee
The ideal candidate will bring:
- Experience of overseeing safeguarding arrangements in an education or youth care setting (including children’s social services or local authority), with direct experience managing safeguarding issues affecting young people aged 14+.
- Strong working knowledge of government safeguarding, Prevent, and child protection strategies, as well as safer recruitment practices.
- Familiarity with Charity Commission guidance on safeguarding and governance expectations for trustees.
- Commitment to promoting and supporting equality, diversity, and inclusion across all areas of the Charity’s work.
- Experience of working at a senior level in post-16 or vocational education, or within a local authority involved in education policy or strategy.

One Tenth Human is an award-winning theatre company based in Lancaster, led by Artistic Director Sarah Punshon. We are a registered charity (no. 1195497), on a mission to empower primary-age children with better stories about their own potential. We explode myths and expectations when it comes to science, technology, engineering, arts, and maths (“STEAM”) because too many children reach adulthood believing these subjects are not for “people like me”. We want to change this.
We create and tour interactive theatrical adventures nationally to arts venues, libraries, schools, and village halls. Since our formation in 2016, we have been commissioned and co-produced by Shoreditch Town Hall, Z-arts, China Plate, Polka Theatre, Tutti Frutti, Big Imaginations, ARC Stockton, The Dukes Lancaster, and Lancaster Arts. We reach nationally, but are deeply embedded in our local region, working closely with schools, community groups, charities, and higher education partners to incubate new work and give more children the chance to take part in our life-changing adventures.

The Board meets for 90 minute meetings every quarter on Zoom, with occasional in-person Away Days.
Written information is sent out a week before each meeting, requiring careful reading and consideration. Trustees may take on additional tasks suitable to their area of expertise between meetings, but the role is fundamentally one of governance and strategic guidance.
We are currently recruiting for Board members with the following skills:
(A) Financial Management Trustee. We are seeking a Board member who would be able to support our financial management, working with the Treasurer (and our accountant) to oversee financial planning, processes, and compliance. Your experience might be an accountancy qualification, experience with charity financial management, experience in business, or similar. Your role would include joining our Budget Working Group, which meets quarterly, one to two weeks before each Board meeting.
(B) Board Members. More broadly, we are keen to recruit Board members who have any one (or more!) of the following areas of expertise:

Founded in 1997, the Islington Centre for Refugees and Migrants provides a place for refugees, migrants, and people seeking asylum to rebuild their life with support and community. About You
We are looking for a new governor with professional experience accounting or financial management. The successful candidate will become part of a Governing Body comprising 18 members, all of whom are representatives of the school, and join the school’s Finance & Resources Committee.
Time Commitment
Governors usually spend ~20 hours per term on core governing duties.
The Governing Body meets four times a year to undertake its regular duties, with occasional meetings for urgent or time critical decisions. Regular meetings currently take place on Wednesdays during term time, usually at 5/5.30pm. Governors also need to allow time to read papers and prepare for meetings.
The Girls’ School Governing Body has three sub-committees – Finance & Resources, Curriculum, and Health & Safety and Personnel. These meet at least termly.
We encourage governors to attend one governors' day per term when specific topics central to educational outcomes are highlighted for discussion with staff and students. Governors are also invited to attend public events such school play performances, music concerts and prize-giving ceremonies.

Being a Foundation Governor
Governors come from a wide range of backgrounds and professions and include some appointed by the staff of the school, parents and the Tower Hamlets Local Authority. A majority of the governors are appointed by the Central Foundation Schools of London. As an Educational Charity we support two schools in inner London, the Girls' School and also Central Foundation Boys' School in Islington. This appointment will be a joint appointment by the Foundation and the Girls' School governing body.
Training on the of role of governor will be provided for successful candidates.
Becoming a Girls’ School Foundation Governor
The governing body has three core functions:
- Ensure clarity of vision, ethos, and strategic direction of our school;
- Hold the executive leaders to account for the educational performance of our school and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff; and
- Oversee the financial performance of our school and make sure its money is well spent.
The successful candidates will join the governing body in Spring 2026 and will receive a full induction which is supported by ongoing training and development for all governors.
