Job description

Are you an experienced youth worker ready to take the next step into leadership and help shape an ambitious youth programme in Battersea?

Devas Club is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Deputy Youth Lead to help lead and develop our Senior youth provision, while taking a key role in delivering our exciting Digital Expansion Programme.

This is a varied, hands-on role combining youth work, team leadership, programme development, outreach and digital innovation. Working closely with our Youth Lead, you will help create a safe, engaging and inspiring environment where young people aged 11–18, and up to 25 for young people with SEN, can build confidence, develop skills and access new opportunities.

The Role

You will take responsibility for the day-to-day delivery and development of our Senior youth provision, leading sessions and providing direction and support to Youth Workers, volunteers, coaches and activity facilitators.

A key part of the role is being present and actively involved in our face-to-face youth sessions. The regular delivery hours are:

  • Wednesday: 4pm–8pm
  • Thursday: 4pm–8pm
  • Friday: 4pm–8pm
  • Saturday: 12pm–3pm

These sessions account for 15 hours of face-to-face youth delivery each week. The remaining contracted hours will be used for programme planning and development, outreach, partnership working, staff support, administration, monitoring and evaluation, and development of the Digital Expansion Programme.

Some flexibility may be required to support events, trips, holiday programmes and other youth activities.

Leading Our Digital Expansion

An important part of this role will be helping to develop and deliver Devas Club's Digital Expansion Programme, bringing together youth work, digital skills, technology, sport, fitness and wellbeing.

You will help create opportunities for young people to develop their digital confidence, understand online safety, use technology to support their wellbeing and goals, and explore practical digital skills that can support their education and future employability.

You do not need to be an IT specialist. We are looking for someone who understands young people, is confident using everyday technology and is excited about finding creative ways to bring digital learning into youth work.

Outreach and Community Engagement

You will help us reach more young people through outreach and detached youth work, developing positive relationships with local schools, colleges, community organisations and other partners.

We particularly want someone who can help us engage young people who may experience barriers to accessing youth provision and ensure that young people's voices influence the activities and opportunities available at Devas.

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Experience of working with young people, ideally within youth work, community, education or a similar setting.
  • Experience of leading activities, sessions, projects or staff.
  • The confidence to take responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of youth provision.
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries.
  • The ability to engage and motivate young people from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • Confidence using everyday digital technology and a willingness to develop your digital knowledge.
  • Creativity and enthusiasm for developing new activities and programmes.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with schools, community organisations and external partners.
  • A commitment to equality, inclusion and ensuring young people are listened to and respected.

Experience of digital youth work, online safety, sport, fitness, wellbeing, data or technology-based activities would be an advantage, but is not essential.

Above all, we are looking for someone who can bring energy, ideas, leadership and consistency to the role.

Why Join Devas Club?

Devas Club is a long-established youth charity supporting children and young people in Battersea, Wandsworth and the surrounding community.

This is an opportunity to do more than simply deliver youth club sessions. You will have the opportunity to help shape and develop our Senior provision, introduce new ideas, build partnerships and lead an innovative programme bringing together youth work, technology, wellbeing and digital skills.

We are looking for someone who wants to develop with the role and help us shape what youth provision can look like for the next generation.
