We are excited to announce that we are looking to appoint a new Clinical Trustee to our well-established Board. 

This vacancy has arisen as one of our existing Clinical Trustees has reached the end of their tenure and now we are seeking the ideal candidate to fill this position.

As a Clinical Trustee you will be required to provide expert guidance to our Board and will act as support to our Director of Care. You will often be required to act a sounding-board for the Julia’s House Team in matters impacting our Clinical Care and Team.

You will work alongside our other Clinical Trustees in respect of Clinical Governance providing input and advice around Clinical matters.

You’ll also build a strong relationship with the rest of the Trustee Board and Senior Leadership Team at Julia’s House.  

Qualifications/Experience:

Proven experience of working within a palliative care environment, ideally at a Senior level.  

Children’s palliative care not essential but advantageous if you have it.  

Application of sound judgement and collaboration with others is key to the success of this role.

Terms of office

• Trustees are appointed for a three-year term of office, renewal for one further term to a maximum of six years.
• This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses are reimbursed.

Time commitment

• Attending four Board meetings annually, typically scheduled in the evening.
• Attending four Clinical Governance meetings a year, typically scheduled in the evening.
• Attending annual strategy and training days.

CPRE North and East Yorkshire campaigns to protect, enhance and promote the countryside for everyone’s benefit. We also use our planning expertise to proactively campaign for local authority planning policies that safeguard and enhance our beautiful and varied landscapes.

About the roles

We are seeking two exceptional individuals to join our Board of Trustees, each bringing specialist expertise while sharing general trustee responsibilities for developing our charity in line with our strategy and ensuring compliance with all legal and governance requirements.

Trustee with Supporter Engagement, Development and Fundraising Experience

This role combines general trustee duties with specialist leadership of our supporter development and fundraising activities. You will inform and guide the Board on supporter development matters, coordinate activities to meet our agreed aims, and lead the recruitment of a new Communications and Supporter Care Officer. Following our recent strategic review with external fundraising consultants, this role is crucial to implementing recommendations that will grow and strengthen our relationships with supporters and safeguard our charity’s future.

Trustee with Local Authority Experience

This position merges trustee responsibilities with expert guidance on local authority engagement and policy development. You will lead our proactive campaigning with local authorities for planning policies that protect the countryside, particularly in meeting climate change challenges. Your expertise will be vital as we work with the newly established North Yorkshire Council and other authorities across our region to influence policy development and implementation.

Who we are looking for

Vacancy 1

We are seeking an individual with management or senior-level experience in supporter development and fundraising. You will have experience in building relationships with supporters, developing fundraising strategies, and implementing successful campaigns.

Vacancy 2

We are also seeking someone with management or senior-level experience, either in policy development within local authorities or as a policy advisor to local authorities, or with experience working with local authorities in a not for profit capacity.

You should understand how local government works, have experience in policy and possess strong communication skills for engaging with elected officials and officers.

Our Trustees are passionate about countryside protection. You will bring strong communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively, and a commitment to our charitable aims. Previous trustee experience is not required as we provide comprehensive training and support.

Time commitment

Both roles require the equivalent of circa 1-2 days per month, including attendance at trustee meetings held every 2-3 months (currently in Thirsk), an annual AGM, and collaboration between meetings. Most meetings are held in person, although some are conducted online.

Our fundraising event helpers have the exciting and varied role of helping at local fundraising events - such as cakes sales, barn dances, quiz nights – and everything in between

Time expectation

This role is really flexible! You could choose to volunteer at one event for a couple of hours or attend multiple fundraising events.

We’ll keep you up to date with upcoming local events where volunteers are needed. You’ll then be able to choose which events you’d like to volunteer at and how many hours you’d like to give. However much time you can give, your contribution will help raise much needed funds to continue the work of Cats Protection.

Organisation Overview

Clean Break provides Theatre and writing based opportunities, including workshops from our studios in Kentish Town NW5 for women who have lived experience through the Criminal Justice System or women at risk of offending with drug/alcohol and/or mental health needs. We work in a safe, women-only environment, creating opportunities for women to develop personal, social, artistic and professional skills.

Purpose/Summary of role

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to be a part of the Catering Team.  To assist with the preparation and service of nutritious food to our Members, maintaining Health & Safety and kitchen hygiene standards

Description of tasks

Food Preparation – catering for daily lunches and internal and events, tasks include prepping, cooking, dishing up and serving, washing up and clearing up kitchen.  Ingredients will be cooked, from fresh, frozen, or tinned stock to create healthy meat and vegetarian/vegan dishes.   To assist with periodic intensive cleaning of the catering space.

Time Commitment

3 months with end of season review to continue.

Flexible one day a week either on:

Mondays 10-2.30pm

or

Wednesdays 10-2.30pm

Skills and Qualifications

This role would suit someone who enjoys cooking and working as part of a team
A basic level of cooking knowledge and ability to follow instruction is essential.

Some experience or a desire to work with vulnerable women who have been through the Criminal Justice System or at risk of offending.

At The Advocacy Academy, we envision a world where young people with lived experience of injustice (LEofI) harness their collective power to shape a more fair, just, and equal society. Our mission is to organise and support these young people to drive systemic change on the most pressing issues of our time.

We do this by offering deep coaching, delivering transformative leadership programmes, and creating clear pathways for sustained action. Through shared learning and community-building, we help young leaders build the knowledge, skills, and confidence to launch and lead proactive campaigns. We also recognise that real change starts from within - so we’re committed to a governance structure that is values-driven, participatory, and beyond reproach, ensuring TAA is as accountable to young people as it is to the communities we serve and its wider responsibilities.

We’re now looking to recruit three new Trustees to join our Board and help steer this work. We're especially keen to hear from people with leadership experience in one or more of the following areas: Finance & Fundraising, Community Organising and Campaigns & Legal

Trustees of The Advocacy Academy play a unique role in delivery of our mission. They are collectively responsible for the governance of the organisation, represent it to the community, and accept ultimate compliance authority for the charity and its activities. As a Trustee with experience in the UK’s youth sector, you will support the Board and the Executives in ensuring that TAA continues to deliver an exceptional quality of youth work, and the role that safeguarding plays in achieving this. As a trustee:

• Work with the Chair, Trustees and Senior Leadership team to ensure there is a clear, long-term and strategic vision The Advocacy Academy.
• Work with the Board to ensure we function within the legal and financial requirements of a UK registered charity and company, our constitution and that we strive for best practice
• Take responsibility with the other trustees so that the organisation has effective practice to safeguard the people it works with
• Act as an ambassador, spokesperson and champion our work supporting our income activities, and fostering networks that can help generate income.

About Our Board of Trustees

• Our Board currently consists of four members, recruited, selected, and approved by the Board of Trustees.
• Each trustee serves a three-year term, and we are made up of individuals from diverse backgrounds and ethnicities.
• The Board meets quarterly (four times per year) to provide strategic oversight and governance. Operations/day to day are managed by the Executives.
• Given the size of the board, we expect all trustees to join at least one subcommittees meeting per year, unless there are extenuating circumstances. .The subcommittee meets are typically held prior to full Board meetings.
• Board meetings are held at our Liberation Centre in Brixton and subcommittee meets are held virtually
• The role of trustee is voluntary, though reasonable expenses are reimbursed.2• Trustees are expected to prepare in advance by reading reports and meeting papers, and are also warmly invited to attend our events throughout the year.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

1. Finance Trustee - Trustee will provide charity financial governance oversight of The Advocacy Academy, including but not limited to: Working closely with our Finance Director and the Finance & Risk Committee will:

• Provide support on financial oversight and ensure compliance with relevant charity and regulatory requirements.
• Review and co-present financial reports and key insights to the Board of Trustees.
• Actively participate in the Finance and Risk Committee, ensuring effective financial scrutiny.
• Strategic contribution to long-term financial and fundraising planning and support the organisation’s risk management framework.
• Attend Finance and Risk subcommittee meetings quarterly.

2. Community Organising and Campaigning Trustee - The Community organising and campaigning Trustee will provide organising and Campaigns governance oversight of The Advocacy Academy, including but not limited to: Working closely with our Director of Organising and Campaigns and fellow trustees, they will:

• Provide strategic oversight of The Advocacy Academy’s organising and campaigning activities and priorities.
• Ensure campaigns are ethical, legally compliant, and aligned with the organisation’s values.
• Support the development of effective, youth-led organising and campaigning strategies.
• Offer insight into advocacy trends, movement-building, and political landscapes.
• Serve as a sounding board for the team, offering critical friend feedback without operational interference.
• Help the board assess risks and opportunities related to public positioning, reputation, and partnerships.
• Good governance, diversity and teamwork are at the core of the Board’s values. We want to ensure trustees represent the young people we work with and we are particularly interested in applications from people with lived experience.

3. Legal Trustee - The Legal Trustees will provide Legal perspective on governance oversight of The Advocacy Academy, including but not limited to: Working closely with our Trustees, they will:

• Provide strategic legal perspective on compliance with charity law, employment law, using legal knowledge or by signposting to our external legal support.
• Provide legal perspective on any strategic decisions the board makes, which the board can then pursue formal legal advice on.
• Provide legal perspective on risk related to public campaigning, partnerships and public communications.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

1. Finance Trustee -

• Proven expertise in charity fundraising and financial management.
• Experience of charity finance and fundraising is essential.
• Previous board or trustee experience.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment.

2. Community Organising and Campaigning Trustee -

• Understanding of power-building, community organising, or movement strategy (essential).
• Experience in grassroots organising and campaigns, advocacy, or social justice movements.3• Familiarity with political or social justice contexts in the UK.
• Willingness to support youth leadership and work in solidarity with young campaigners.
• Previous board or governance experience is helpful but not essential.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment.

3. Legal Trustee -

• Qualified legal professional (e.g. solicitor, barrister, legal academic) with UK-based experience.
• Knowledge of charity, or employment law desirable.
• Experience in risk, governance, or compliance, particularly in the charity sector.
• A commitment to social justice and supporting youth organising work.
• Ability to translate legal concepts clearly for non-specialist trustees.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment.

EXPECTATIONS & ENTITLEMENT

• Attend at least one training programme that we run, so that you understand the work we deliver
• Attend trustee meetings, which are held four times a year in London or virtually, and last between 3 expected to attend at least three each year.
• Participate in one of our sub-committees as may be required by the trustee role.
• Demonstrate commitment to The Advocacy Academy by supporting fundraising efforts.
• Serve for a term of three years and be able to stand for re-election for a further term and possibly two.
• Work with the Chair to review your performance
• Claim reasonable travel and accommodation expenses to attend meetings -4 hours - trustees are expected to attend at least three each year.

We are looking for someone to volunteer as a Branch Treasurer for our **Lincoln Mid, NE and Lincoln Branch.** This role would play a vital role in supporting the Branches affairs so that it is governed and managed effectively, whilst continually having animal welfare at the forefront of their mind.

As a minimum, trustees would normally be expected to attend a monthly committee meeting lasting some 2 to 3 hours. However, the commitment may vary depending on whether or not the trustee takes on additional duties.

Primary responsibilities of the Branch Treasurer

•  Implement and maintain sound financial systems.
• Take a lead role in ensuring the committee set annual financial budgets and plan the branch income and expenditure.
• Provide a written financial report for every branch meeting.
• Liaise with auditors/independent examiners regarding the production of the annual branch accounts and the treasurer’s report.
• Maintain control of all bank accounts as authorised by the committee.
• Execute and operate branch committee financial decisions and act as branch co-signatory. Maintain control over all branch paying-in books and receipt books and to ensure their correct use.
• In the absence of a branch box secretary, to assume responsibility for the branch network of collection boxes.
•  Arrange payment of the annual branch contribution to the appropriate RSPCA fund.
• Coordinate financial control of all branch fundraising activities.
• Make quarterly VAT returns to headquarters promptly.
•  Ensure the production, monitoring and annual review of the branch’s financial risk management strategy in accordance with the charity commission’s requirements.
•  Liaise with branch officers, branch support specialist and Branch finance co-ordinator on Financial affairs as necessary and alert them immediately to any possible difficulties or irregularities.
•   Ensure the retention and safekeeping of all branch financial documentation for the appropriate time as set by the charity commission.

What we are looking for in a volunteer:

• Time Commitment: You will be able to commit to attending monthly committee meetings, each lasting approximately three hours.
• Financial Oversight: Between meetings, you will carry out key financial responsibilities including preparing financial reports for the committee, monitoring the annual budget set by the trustees, and ensuring financial activities align with agreed targets.
•  Professional Qualifications: You will hold, or be actively working towards, a recognised professional finance qualification such as CIMA or ACCA.
•  Charity Finance Knowledge: Ideally, you will have experience within the charity sector, with a strong understanding of areas such as Gift Aid, Charity Commission reporting requirements, and the management of restricted funds.
•  Financial Systems Experience: Proficiency in using financial software is essential, with experience in Xero being highly desirable as it is the platform currently in use.
• ·Regulatory Compliance: You should have a sound working knowledge of HMRC regulations, including PAYE, Employer’s National Insurance contributions, and VAT rules applicable to charities.

PBI’s trademark protective accompaniment teams in Colombia, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Indonesia, Kenya and Nepal are supported by PBI’s International Headquarters in Brussels, and offices elsewhere in the world, such as our UK section, which carries out high-level advocacy for improved governmental and other support for human rights defenders, as well as stronger regulation of transnational business behaviour.

About the role:

A 2.5 month volunteer placement where the selected candidate will not only play a vital role in upcoming projects but also harness their skills in advocacy, communications and administration/logistics. They will deepen their understanding and knowledge of the UK environment, gaining insights into UK politics, international human rights, legal frameworks, advocacy strategies, and communication tactics.

  • Conduct research on countries and cases that PBI works on.

• Engage in network building and maintenance:

Work Schedule

 Minimum of 15 hours a week / 2 days a week.

Location 

At least one day a week in our London office, ideally Mondays. Candidates can choose whether to work remotely on the other work days. 

Some work from other locations in London, for example around events, may be necessary and would be agreed mutually in advance.

Stipend Information

It is an unpaid volunteer placement. Though PBI UK provides a stipend for public transport costs incurred to travel to our office from within London, and for food on working days in the office. 

We can also cover any other reasonable costs incurred in carrying out the volunteer placement, so long as these are agreed in writing in advance.
