Communication Support Volunteers are an essential part of our work for reaching and supporting different communities. Our partners in the community hold events across the UK and online. Your support will help assist communication by translating between English and British Sign Language (BSL), ensuring attendees have a positive experience! You will provide informal communication support (this is not a qualified interpreter role). You may be on your own, or as part of a team so you’ll need to be enthusiastic and motivated.
About you
- Aged 18 years and over
- BSL signing skills at level 3 or above (with or without a formal qualification)
- Able to adapt your communication methods depending on individual needs and environments
- Willing to get involved in activities to encourage people to participate
- Communicate effectively within your role and as part of a team
When and where

What you will do
Your tasks will depend on who you are supporting and what kind of event they’re running, but they may include:
- Assisting two-way communication for children and adults with varied communication methods

Volunteer Opportunities with Beyond the Streets
Do you want to invest your time supporting women who are marginalised in Tower Hamlets? Do you feel called to social justice and want to do something about it? For over 20 years we have been supporting women involved in selling sex. Many of the women credit our Door of Hope project with being key to their sense of wellbeing whilst on the streets and for some, their exit from selling sex.
We are recruiting new volunteers to continue delivering consistent outreach, early morning, and late evening, spanning different days of the week.
We need volunteers to work with the women we support. We are looking for women with:
- A vision for reaching out to women involved in/affected by selling sex/sexual exploitation.
- Empathy, compassion and a non-judgmental approach.
- An ability to build trusting relationships whilst maintaining personal boundaries.
What you can expect from us
- An opportunity to work together to see an end to sexual exploitation.

What we ask from you
- A regular time commitment to take part in outreach, 1 session a month with 1 session as a back up.

- A commitment to reflective practice – taking good care of yourself, contributing to team or 1-1 supervision, responding reflectively to your experiences with Door of Hope
- An openness to learning and working together.
- Availability to attend team meet ups 4-5 events a year (usually on a Monday or Tuesday evening)
We are looking for local volunteers:
- If you live within 8 miles of Tower Hamlets, we can cover the cost of late night, safe transport to and from the outreach meeting place via Taxi.
- If you live outside an 8-mile radius of Tower Hamlets it would be helpful if you had access to a car or be willing to contribute to the cost of a taxi home.

As an Adult Carers Fundraiser Admin & Support Volunteer, you will play a key part in helping Carers Trust Solihull secure funding that enables us to continue and expand our vital services for adult carers across the borough.
Working alongside the manager, you will help identify and apply for funding opportunities, assist with administrative and community-based fundraising activities, and represent the charity in local events. Your support will directly contribute to improving the quality of life for carers by enabling new services, resources, and opportunities.
This role is ideal for someone with good communication and organisational skills who enjoys building connections and making a tangible difference in the community.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Research and help identify funding opportunities relevant to our work with carers.
- Support the manager with administrative tasks linked to grant applications and fundraising.
- Represent Carers Trust Solihull as a friendly and professional ambassador at fundraising events.
- Keep accurate records of fundraising activity, donations, and outcomes.
- Attend and help organise fundraising events that support our mission.
- Present pre-prepared presentations or films to funders and partners to raise awareness of our work.
- Assist or lead in writing small grant applications (and larger ones where confident).
- Collect and log donated items for our service (e.g., gift vouchers, tickets, Easter eggs, and Christmas selection boxes).
- Monitor when key funding streams renew or reopen, ensuring timely applications.
- Work collaboratively with the manager to assess the viability of opportunities within our available resources.
- Carry out any other agreed tasks related to fundraising and community engagement.

No Panic is a national charity at the frontline of accessible help for anxiety sufferers.
The No Panic Helpline is open 365 days a year between 10am and 10pm.
Those who call us can be struggling across a range of anxiety disorders: OCD; Panic Attacks; Phobias or General Anxiety Disorder.
We train our helpline volunteers to provide sufferers with all the information they need to begin the process of self-help recovery.
This is a remote volunteering opportunity where everything is done from home, including training, and there is never a need to attend elsewhere. This makes it the ideal opportunity for those with mobility or fitness issues.
Our volunteers work a 3-hour shift once a week.
Initial training is one evening a week for 8 weeks (for a small charge of £25 to cover costs), with backup support for the first 8 weeks on the helpline. There is continued support via bi-monthly support groups.

The Role

What we're looking for
We're looking for enthusiastic, creative and organised people across the nation to be a Community Fundraising Volunteer. Around 90 per cent of our income comes from our supporters and we couldn't continue doing what we do without them. That means, our community fundraising volunteers play a really important part in rallying people together to raise vital funds which help to protect children and prevent abuse.
What you'll do
To volunteer at a Christmas NSPCC event to support the NSPCC in various ways such as co-ordinating of raffle tickets; orgnanising prizes; helping on the evening such as supporting the NSPCC Christmas stall and merchandise.
You'll volunteer without regular time commitments, ‘as and when' volunteering! Engage with the public, organisations and local communities – promoting a positive image of the NSPCC! You'll be a valued part of one of our Volunteer Community Fundraising Teams across the UK, raising awareness and funds. We appreciate that work, family and friends come first and, with that in mind, this role offers flexibility to fit in with your lifestyle. You only need to commit to a couple of hours a month, but if you want to do more that would be great.
What you'll get
We'll support you with advice, skills and tools to help you fundraise and spread the word of the NSPCC. You'll learn more about how you're helping to protect children across the UK, and you'll have the opportunity to grow your skills and inspire others to support us. As a Community First Aider, you’ll deliver first aid to those in need through local events, as well as provide education to the public so that the ripple effect of First Aid grows.

Network meetings are held on Wednesday evenings between 19:30-21:00 during school term time although these are normally reduced to twice monthly in winter. It is important for applicants to generally be able to attend meetings.

Induction evenings will be held at same time and location as the regular meetings and an existing volunteer will provide direct support as a Buddy.
As well we online training, in person training will be provided. In person training is usually over one weekend.

Hospital Visitor Volunteer
Hospital Visitor volunteers visit hospital settings to ensure that people detained under the Mental Health Act are aware that they have a legal right to an IMHA qualified advocate. The volunteers are instrumental in ensuring that clients get access to an advocate and can also support the work that advocates undertake.
As a hospital volunteer, you might:
- hold drop-in sessions
- attend events and ward meetings at local facilities
- share information
- assist people to request advocacy support by completing a form online or calling our contact centre
All volunteering will take place Monday to Friday between 09:00 and 17:00. You will need to be over 18 years old and be living in the UK. Please note that there is no opportunity to volunteer at weekends or in the evening.
