About the role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and dynamic Events Manager to lead on Media Trust’s 2024 calendar of fundraising and industry-facing events, including our upcoming 30th Birthday Fundraising Gala and support with other programme-related events.
The successful candidate will have demonstrable expertise in delivering successful fundraising and other events, working across multiple projects, and finding new and innovative ways to engage corporate supporters in fundraising events and campaigns.
You will be part of the Volunteering & Events Management team and will manage a range of in person and virtual events, from fundraising events to corporate partner cultivation drinks, industry roundtables and large-scale volunteering initiatives. You will work with internal and external stakeholders to develop and deliver impactful high-quality events and ensure that all our events deliver against set targets.
This role would suit someone with a good understanding and experience of the UK charity sector and a passion for equalities and inclusion. We are looking for a strong candidate to take Media Trust’s event activity and fundraising to the next level to enable us to support more charities and underrepresented talent and engage more media and creative industry professionals in our work.
Key responsibilities
Events Management
-
Manage end-to-end delivery of Media Trust events, campaigns and projects of varying size, format and complexity, both in person and virtually

Lead on the development and running of Media Trust’s 30th Birthday celebratory events, including but not limited to our Fundraising Gala, ensuring the fundraising target is hit or exceeded

Support the Programmes team and Media Trust Films team on delivery of events when necessary, including, but not limited to, Charity Challenge Days and Film Screenings

Provide a high standard of support to key stakeholders throughout the planning, execution and evaluation of each event
-
Develop and implement consistent processes, procedures and documentation for all events across Media Trust, including event timelines, agendas, speaker and staff briefs
-
Develop fundraising and sponsorship proposals to fund core events across Media Trust
-
Manage event budgets ensuring they are run cost effectively
-
Maximise the profitability (where appropriate), sustainability and quality of all events
-
Act as first point of contact for stakeholders including corporate partners, venues, caterers, speakers, attendees, Media Trust staff and Trustees

Research and suggest relevant key speakers and work with all Media Trust teams to finalise speakers for events

Work closely with the Marketing team to develop communications to promote events and drive engagement

Monitor KPIs and evaluate the impact of events, providing reports and feedback summaries as required

Ensure all Media Trust events and fundraising activities are logged effectively and Media Trust’s CRM is kept up-to-date
Corporate Partner Activity

Liaise with our Corporate Partners and lead on bespoke events organised as part of their partnership with Media Trust

Work closely with the Partnerships team to develop and deliver volunteer opportunities, recruiting, briefing and training volunteers including presentations and pitches

Work with other members of the Volunteering & Events Management team to support with other volunteering activity including development of innovative events and opportunities
Additional Responsibilities

What we are looking for in you
Essential

Experience of end-to-end event management, including the planning of fundraising events, and delivering high-impact results in a professional or charitable organisation

About the Role
This role is central to connecting supporters of Clatterbridge Cancer Charity with the challenge of their lifetime. The Challenge Events Fundraiser will promote events such as runs, marathons, abseils, bike rides and skydives. It is key to inspiring, motivating and supporting people who are raising money for the Charity by taking part in these types of events.

Alzheimer’s Research UK is a leading voice on dementia and research, and this postholder will develop a credible and comprehensive policy base for the charity and maintain strong external stakeholder relationships activity with civil servants, researchers, clinicians and decision makers. They will lead a team covering policy across our whole portfolio: prevention and Brain Health, early detection and diagnosis, dementia research, access to new treatments and clinical engagement.
The Senior Policy Manager plays a vital leadership role in the team management and delivery of ARUK’s influencing strategy. The role leads a highly engaged and high-performing policy team that brings Alzheimer’s Research UK’s influencing priorities to life. Through our deep expertise and understanding of what needs to change for people with dementia, we advocate for greater investment in dementia research, greater government action to protect Brain Health and better pathways and practice in the NHS to ensure people with dementia can benefit from breakthroughs. We have a strong reputation for identifying solutions as well as raising awareness of problems.
The Senior Policy Manager brings expertise in developing policy positions, producing compelling and influential policy publications and leading the team to develop new thinking and solutions on dementia and dementia research. Their broad remit will also lead our work to engage the dementia clinical community to build our understanding of care pathways within the NHS and new models of care including Brain Health Clinics.
The Senior Policy Manager reports into the Head of Policy and Public Affairs and works closely with colleagues across our Communications, and Information and Involvement teams to ensure that Alzheimer’s Research UK continues to be positioned as the go-to organisation on dementia and dementia research. The postholder will be experienced at managing people to achieve impact and working across multiple projects.
Main duties and responsibilities of the role:
· Leadership of the Policy team, line managing four Managers and a team of around 9 people.
· Manage the day-to-day budgeting and reforecasting process with an expenditure budget of circa £200,000 ensuring that the team operates cost effectively in meeting its objectives.
· Provide a high level of expertise on dementia and dementia research across the organisation and externally, through leadership of the policy team.
· Develop, manage and deliver a substantial programme of high-quality policy analysis and proposals for change.
· Lead the delivery, from conception to launch, of influential policy publications of the highest quality that have significant external and media impact.
· Leadership of working groups to deliver the strategic and influencing priorities for ARUK.
· Responsible for producing and maintaining policy briefings for senior colleagues, often at short notice, to support their attendance at meetings with key stakeholders.
· Representation of ARUK on external working groups, at events, and in the media.
· Provide strong leadership and support to the Policy team, through coaching, mentoring and developing individuals to create a thriving policy function.
· Facilitate team building and collaborative working to deliver the strategic and operational plans.
Policy development
· Lead the team to keep abreast of the policy environment, building and maintaining a deep understanding of current issues and trends and producing insight and analysis for the organisation.
· Work with policy managers to develop and implement a structured programme of policy work that identifies the key factors that need to change in order to ensure that the Government is taking action to ensure a pioneering and protective dementia research ecosystem, protect Brain Health, ensure people receive an early and accurate diagnosis of dementia, and new treatments are made available without delay, bringing new innovative policy ideas and solutions to make this happen.
· Identify policy areas in which ARUK is seeking greatest action and develop strategies to influence and effect positive change, ensuring a coherent narrative and strategy sitting across our various programmes of policy work.
· Commission strategic research projects or commission analysis to further the aims of the organisation.
· Responsible for working closely with the Information and Involvement team to ensure the involvement of people affected by dementia in the development of ARUK’s policy priorities and positions.
· Overseeing the timely delivery of effective and credible policy outputs of the highest quality – including reports, briefings and discussion papers.
Stakeholder relations and influencing
· Support the development of the department’s influencing strategy and deliver policy work that provides a strong evidence base and clear recommendations for Alzheimer’s Research UK.
· Work across the organisation to develop good forward planning and stakeholder management processes and mechanisms that help us to manage and derive insights from key organisational relationships and maximise the impact of our influencing work.
· Represent ARUK to a range of decision-makers and stakeholders; this will involve participating in public events, making presentations and acting as a media spokesperson.
· Build relationships with civil servants, academics, dementia organisations, think tanks and other key stakeholders, establishing opportunities for partnership working and commissioning new insights
· Work with the Senior Public Affairs and Campaigns Manager to develop a synergistic Public Affairs and Campaigns strategy that embeds and exploits our policy work
· Work across Policy and Public Affairs department to ensure there is good co-ordination and communication of policy throughout the charity in order to foster a shared understanding of ARUK’s policies and issues.
· Work closely with colleagues across the charity to ensure that ARUK’s external messaging and activities reflect our policy priorities and positions.
· Undertake any other relevant duties and projects delegated by the Head of Policy and Public Affairs in line with the responsibilities of the post.

Upbeat Communities was founded in 2005 to support refugees and asylum seekers to rebuild their lives through a whole range of support including training, social activities, befriending and hosting. Upbeat Communities became a registered charity in 2015.
In 2013, Upbeat Communities launched Derby Language School (DLS) which is a social enterprise that provides language courses to individuals and organisations in the East Midlands. Alongside generating considerable income for the charity through its private and corporate classes it also provides quality language training for many refugees through contracts with councils.
In 2021, Upbeat Clean was started in response to significant challenges that refugee women have in finding employment to support their families. Upbeat Clean’s 5-year goal is to be able to offer a Real Living Wage job to every refugee woman who needs one in Derby. Upbeat Clean is fast becoming the most talked about commercial cleaning business in Derby with contracts at key venues like Derby Museums, Getinge, Vaillant, Quad, Deda and large offices across the city.
The two social enterprises (DLS and Upbeat Clean) have grown substantially over the last two years with a combined expected turnover of around £700,000 in 2024/25 and more rapid growth ahead. We have over 30 employed cleaners and 20 freelance teachers and interpreters, with over 40 corporate contracts and 100 private clients.
Main duties and responsibilities
Strategy, Analysis & Development:

Fundraising is critical to delivering our mission and ensuring we can support as many children and young people facing disadvantage to open doors to their future. Working within a passionate team, and with a multitude of corporate partners from different sectors, you’ll be an excellent collaborator who has a keen eye for opportunities and strong initiative. With a successful track-record of developing and stewarding corporate funding and/or volunteering partnerships, you’ll have knowledge of great engagement strategies, activities and initiatives.
Qualifications criteria:
• A*-C in maths and English at GCSE (or equivalent experience).
• Right to work in the UK.
We are looking for some of the following attributes, though you might be more experienced in some areas than others:
• Minimum two years experience in leading on growing and managing successful corporate partnerships.
• A track record successfully engaging organisations with either fundraising and/or volunteering opportunities.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication with excellent interpersonal skills.
You will be likely be more successful in this role if you have:
• You have a proven track record of developing and stewarding fruitful corporate partnerships within the charity sector.
• You have a passion for educational inequality/working within the Third Sector.
• Line management experience.
• Experience working within a charity with a turnover of £3M or more.
