Events and community fundraising manager jobs

To act as an enthusiastic ambassador for the charity; building strong relationships across a variety of networks to support and develop the public presence of the charity and community fundraising income. The role may involve evening and weekend working to support community fundraising activities and events, and working hours are flexible to reflect this.

Key Duties

Fundraising:

• Be the primary point of contact for new and existing supporters.
• Proactively look for opportunities to support and develop local fundraising initiatives.
• Develop and deliver a varied range of fundraising activities to a range of audiences, including events and campaigns.
• Act as an ambassador for the charity with local community groups and organisations.
• Work with the wider team to develop relationships with local businesses and corporate partners.
• Work to set targets and generate income. Work with the wider team to recruit and support local fundraising volunteers.
• Maintain up to date records of communication with funders; income generated and how this compares to budget.
• Keep up to date with the latest fundraising trends, regulations and news.

Marketing & Communications:

• Develop the charity’s public presence and brand.
• Produce marketing materials to represent the charity and its projects, including online newsletters, print media and merchandise.
• Manage the charity’s digital content including social media channels and website.
• Support with e-commerce and support the enterprise team to maximise opportunities.
• Represent the organisation at networking events, meetings and other outside events, as necessary.

Other:

• Supporting other members of the team to deliver activities; including, but not limited to, activity days and evening clubs.
• To help develop new and innovative ideas to help our target groups and meet our charitable objectives.
• To carry out any other duties within the general scope of the post, as directed by your line manager/the Co-Directors.

Requirements

Qualifications:

• Have a sound education to A-level standard or equivalent.

Experience:

• Experience of supporting community fundraisers; have a good understanding of community and events fundraising and supporter care.
• Experience of developing marketing materials in a variety of mediums.
• Be adept in using a variety of social media channels and platforms.

Skills:

• Demonstrate excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to represent the charity in a variety of settings.
• Be able to prioritise and demonstrate excellent planning, organisational and time management skills.
• Excellent IT skills in a variety of website platforms and applications which should include Microsoft Office, Wix and WordPress.
• Ability to identify needs and set up new systems and procedures

What You’ll Do

• Trusts & grants: Work with the Development & Communications Manager to write and submit compelling funding applications to trusts, foundations and grant-making bodies to secure new and repeat funding.

• Scout for, build and maintain relationships with existing and new funders, donors, and partners, ensuring ongoing engagement and support.

• Events: Plan, organise and manage fundraising events, including overseeing event logistics, participant engagement and post-event follow up.

• Work with the Development & Communications team to generate new, innovative fundraising concepts and bring them to fruition.

• Manage the database of funders and donors and ensure contact is up to date.

• Support with monitoring and evaluation, including reports to funders

• Work closely with the communications team to ensure coordinate donor and external communications, and to contribute to our social media presence

• Identify roles and responsibilities that could be delegated to volunteers to maximise their support, supervising those assigned to you.

• Represent the Sophie Hayes Foundation with colleagues at meetings and events with external stakeholders. This may include deputising for more senior colleagues on occasion.

Role Summary

We are looking for a motivated and dynamic individual who is passionate about collaboration and community-led change. As a Fundraising Manager, you will be responsible for managing a mixed portfolio of supporters with a view to growing this pool to deliver a mixture of revenue which can sustain and grow our ambitions and work. This will involve taking responsibility for nurturing and growing an existing philanthropic pool of funders whilst identifying, cultivating and mapping new high value opportunities, in excess of £75k. For your portfolio you will manage donor acquisition strategies, proposal writing and stewardship and supporter journey planning. 

The role involves securing funding from various sources, including trusts, corporations, and individuals, to support the charity’s mission. This includes developing and maintaining strong donor relationships, managing a portfolio of donors, and managing fundraising pipelines.

The ideal candidate will therefore be proactive, results-driven, and skilled in developing insight-led strategies, managing solicitations, along with the ability to create processes, gather insights, and propose budgets. Key Objectives:

• As a member of the Fundraising team, you will work across all parts of the fundraising process, from prospect research all the way through to the fundraising ask.

• You will work collaboratively within the Fundraising team and the wider organisation to develop compelling fundraising proposals for corporate donors, high net worth individuals, community appeals and trusts and foundations.

Fundraising Objectives:

• Develop a high value pipeline of prospects and funders which has a balanced approach across acquisition, retention and uplift to meet team targets and which provides the best supporter experience.

• Manage a personal portfolio through all stages of the fundraising cycle, within an overall fundraising team target, demonstrating an understanding of how to mitigate risk, maximise return on investment and give a focus to unrestricted income generation.

• Manage and cultivate prospect and funder relationships in their entirety, with responsibility for planning briefings, proposal writing, stakeholder engagement, reporting, stewardship, delivery, and evaluation.

• Research, prepare, and submit high-quality grant applications to charitable trusts, foundations, and other funding bodies utilising different funder approaches including bids, applications, proposals and EOIs, all delivering high-quality experiences and materials to secure funding. 

• Monitor and report on the progress of fundraising activities and grant applications, providing regular updates to the management team.

• Plan and write bespoke engagement plans (e.g. stewardship reports), including report-writing and impact analysis, and coordinating event and PR milestone activities.

• Work with internal & external stakeholders to develop new projects and ensure donor requirements and engagement opportunities are met.

Team and Operational Objectives:

• Help colleagues and supporters overcome any challenges and maximise their fundraising efforts.

• Manage your time and workload, and utilise our given processes, systems, and parameters to overcome barriers

• Support funder account management and compliance through planning, financial budgeting, and record keeping. 

• Ensure that systems and processes are effective, and that our database is updated and utilised as the central source of information for recording income, supporter interactions and reporting. 

• Ensure all supporters are appropriately thanked and help develop specific supporter journeys.

• Identify potential funding opportunities and contribute to philanthropic discovery exercises across new territories and themes

• Build and maintain relationships with a range of stakeholders from corporate partners through to community groups.

Person Specification

Experience (essential)

• Experience in a charity fundraising role.

• A successful track record of building strong internal and external relationships and generating income from a broad range of funders

• Experience in fundraising preferably from Trust and Foundations; both family, corporate and individual, and partnership bid development.

• Experience in all aspects of donor cultivation (research, writing, follow-up, and stewardship), required

• Experience closing gifts at the six-figure level, including complex gifts using a variety of giving vehicles

• Pipeline development and management thereof, to ensure multi year planning and team financial target contributions are reflected.

• Proven track record in achieving financial and non-financial targets and in forecasting/ setting KPI’s

• Experience in identifying and acquiring new business opportunities and creatively retaining long term funder relationships

Your responsibilities

1. Fundraising strategy (10% of time)

· Work with the CEO and Senior Leadership Team to set and deliver the fundraising strategy.

· Work across teams to identify opportunities to create projects and seek funding.

· Ensure all fundraising activities comply with legal and regulatory requirements.

· Report regularly to the Finance Committee and Board.

2. Trust and foundations fundraising (60% of time)

· Work with the Senior Leadership Team to identify projects and core costs for funding and develop realistic budgets.

· Work across teams to ensure continuation funding for existing projects and costs where needed.

3. Database management (20% of time)

· Ensure the CRM supports funding monitoring purposes and staff can use it for this purpose.

· Continually champion and develop the CRM so that it is accessible to all staff and meets the requirements of all teams.

· Work with the Communications and Engagement team to put in place good stewardship of members, advice service users and other contacts via the CRM.

· Put in place supporter journeys that provide excellent stewardship.

4. Wider fundraising (10% of time)

· Explore, test and evaluate wider fundraising opportunities. This could include appeals, corporate fundraising, events, individual giving and legacy giving.

· Support the Training, Research and Consultancy team with bid and proposal writing on an ad hoc basis.

5. General (at all times)

· Undertake any other tasks, duties or projects which may arise from time to time which are in line with the general level of this post and as instructed.

· Undertake occasional evening and weekend work as required, and take responsibility for arranging time off in lieu with your manager.

· Line manage and supervise members, contractors and staff as required.

The Individual Giving Manager will be responsible for the development and delivery of Women for Refugee Women’s (WRW) individual giving fundraising strategy, including through a variety of income streams such as regular gifts, High Net Worth giving, corporate support, events, and legacies; to develop and deliver WRW’s support engagement journey in order to generate income from individual donors and to develop strong and long-lasting supporter relationships; to oversee and develop our stewardship retention programme; and to contribute to WRW’s overall fundraising strategy and income generation.

LOCATION: Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire Headquarters – based with regular travel across designated UK regions (including regular overnight stays).

SALARY BAND: Up to £35K depending on experience (mileage reimbursement for travel).

Job Purpose

To lead and manage regional fundraising initiatives around the UK, developing relationships with volunteers, donors, and community groups to maximise income generation and awareness. This role requires a combination of strategic oversight, operational support and hands-on engagement with volunteers and supporters across multiple regions. Ideally the National Fundraising Manager will be present at the charity’s office 1-2 days per week, with the rest of the time dedicated to travel across the UK in support of our extensive volunteer family.

Key responsibilities

Fundraising development

• Identify and cultivate new opportunities for national fundraising.
• Support volunteers with fundraising ideas, materials, and advice.
• Lead and manage the delivery of national fundraising events, from planning through to execution, ensuring they meet financial and engagement goals.

Volunteer and supporter engagement

• Visit volunteers and fundraising groups in designated regions across the UK to provide guidance, encouragement, and support.

Person Specification

Experience

• 2 years minimum community fundraising experience or fast paced, target driven field sales environment with demonstrable transferrable skills.
• Experience working with, supporting, and managing volunteers, including providing guidance and fostering a positive and motivated team environment.
• Demonstrated experience in planning, coordinating, and delivering fundraising events, both small and large-scale, with a focus on community engagement.
• Experience in developing and nurturing relationships with donors, supporters, and community groups, ensuring ongoing engagement and support.
• Strong background in administrative tasks such as record-keeping, reporting, and using CRM systems to track donations and supporter engagement.
• Experience in a role that requires travel across a wide geographic area, with the ability to manage time effectively and work independently.
• Proven success in working towards and achieving fundraising targets, with a focus on both short-term and long-term objectives.

• Assist with planning and delivery of events, including volunteer recognition events, fundraising activities, and charity-led campaigns.

ECHO supports children and young people with heart conditions and their families, who have been treated within the Guy's and St Thomas' NHS network of 47 hospitals. Congenital heart disease is the most common birth defect and affects just under 1 in every 100 babies born throughout the UK.
