Job description
Creative Media Assistant – 12 Month Internship

Are you a media graduate with some professional experience of graphic design or video production? Do you have the storytelling skills to cut through jargon and present complex topics in a way that engages and excites audiences?

If so, this is an amazing opportunity to support the work of a ground-breaking organisation that’s dedicated to ending poverty on a worldwide scale.

About Development Initiatives (DI)

Our mission is to ensure that decisions about the allocation of finance and resources result in an end to poverty, increase the resilience of the world’s most vulnerable people, and leave no one behind.

We are an independent international development organisation working on the use of data to drive poverty eradication and sustainable development.

We want the world to be as passionate about data and its role in fighting poverty as we are. We know why data is so important and we know why the insight it brings is vital to reaching the world’s most vulnerable. However, many people don’t.

Our work is often technical and complex – we want to ensure it is relatable and easy to understand. As such, we’re looking for a Creative Media Assistant to join us on a 12 month internship and help create engaging multimedia content that effectively communicates our work.

The Benefits

- Salary of £21,000 per annum
- Pension (5% of salary)
- 20 days’ holiday per annum plus Bank Holidays
- Up to five days’ paid leave for charitable work (volunteering to address poverty and/or help vulnerable people)
- Smart casual dress code policy
- Flexitime and homeworking options
- Simply Health Cash scheme with employee assistance programme
- Paid professional fees and study leave
- Enhanced maternity/paternity/adoption/sick leave policies

This is an exceptional opportunity to increase your experience with an established not-for-profit organisation and contribute to our image and voice.

We are truly passionate about our vision and provide a culture of transparency and innovation where teams are encouraged to think outside the box and empowered to perform at their best.

So, if you’re looking for the chance to be a part of something bigger and utilise your creativity for a fantastic cause, we’d love to hear from you.

The Role

As a Creative Media Assistant, you will help to bring issues to life through compelling human stories, engaging infographics and other creative approaches.

Working as part of the Communications Team, you’ll ensure that our stakeholders understand exactly what we are doing, why it is so important, and what it means for them.

Specifically, you will:

- Create graphics and infographics to drive our key messages and improve the accessibility of our technical data-led information
- Manage the end-to-end production of video content
- Take photographs to support project objectives
- Ensure that our brand is maintained throughout all creative content and outputs

About You

To join us as a Creative Media Assistant, you’ll need:

- Demonstrable work experience in graphic design and/or video production
- Intermediate skills in key Adobe software (InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop)
- Proven video production skills
- An interest in the latest digital trends that could enhance content interaction and user experience
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
- The ability to present complex issues clearly and tailor your language both technical and non-specialist audiences through accessible narrative descriptions/explanations of data-led content
- The ability to communicate messages using data (such as through visualisations, infographics or charts)
- A degree or equivalent in creative media, media production or a related subject

Ideally, you’ll be proficient in other Adobe software, such as Premiere Pro and After Effects. Photography skills would also be an advantage.

Other organisations may call this role Content Assistant, Video Producer, Multimedia Content Executive, Junior Content Executive, Graphic Designer, Multimedia Designer, Video Production Assistant, or Content Production Assistant.

The closing date for applications is the 21st June 2020.

Development Initiatives is an equal opportunities employer and, in line with our policies, we aim to ensure that no job applicant receives less favourable treatment on the grounds of race, colour, nationality, religion, ethnic or national origin, age, gender, marital status, sexual orientation or disability.
