ABOUT THE ROLE 

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director to oversee the efficient and effective functioning of our organisation's key operational areas, including Operations, People management, Finance, Security and Compliance. The Director will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth implementation of our humanitarian programs while upholding the highest standards of excellence, accountability, integrity, collaboration and lifelong learning. 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES 

1. Strategic Leadership: Provide strategic direction and leadership to the organisation's operational functions, aligning them with the overall mission and objectives. 
2. People Management: Develop and implement HR policies and procedures to support a diverse workforce including employees, consultants and Associate Trainers. Manage any organisational change management processes and ensure that RedR UK’s culture and values are embedded across the organisation. 
3. Financial Management: Oversee budget planning, financial reporting, and internal controls to ensure fiscal responsibility and compliance with donor regulations and legal requirements. Analysing financial data to provide insights for decision making, leading policy reviews to improve procedures, and overseeing external audits. 
4. Operations Management: Streamline and optimise operational processes and systems to enhance efficiency, quality, and scalability while availing technological advancement. This includes systems, IT, CRM, Facilities and vendor management. 
5. Security and Risk Management: Ensure security protocols are adhered to and risk management strategies are in place to safeguard staff, assets, and programme operations. Ensure that RedR’s Global Safety and Security Policy meets international standards, dealing with security concerns and incidents that arise and raising these as necessary. 
6. Resource Utilisation: Analyse resource requirements and utilisation across programmes, providing insights and recommendations; collaborate with programmes to develop strategies for optimising resource allocation and utilisation. Establish mechanisms for ongoing monitoring of resource allocation and utilisation across programmes. 
7. Compliance and Reporting: Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and donor requirements; maintain and periodically update RedR UK organisations policies and associated processes, ensuring RedR UK is compliant with relevant legislation in its countries of operation. Development and management of the risk management framework to identify and mitigate potential risks to the organisation's operations.

Role Summary

As the Director of Research and Public Affairs you lead a team working across the full range of research work (including commissioning, grant-making and in-house research) and public affairs work (including policy analysis, advocacy work and mobilising our activists). You also contribute to the charity’s strategies, leadership and governance as a member of the Executive Team. Ultimately, your role is to generate new knowledge; and communicate knowledge, ideas and emotions to change hearts and minds, creating tangible reductions in alcohol harm across the UK.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Leadership, strategy & planning

1. Lead the research and public affairs functions at Alcohol Change UK.

2. Produce and deliver plans across our research and public affairs work programmes that are ambitious for change (impact), realistic given our resources, and consistent with our strategy, our other work programmes, and our values.

3. Set budgets, tightly control costs and identify opportunities for making savings, growing income and making the case for investment.

4. Appropriately monitor and evaluate our research and public affairs work with a view to knowing, growing and showing the impact we make.

Research

5. Work closely with the CEO, Policy and Research Manager, R&P sub-committee and Wales Office to determine and oversee the charity’s programme of commissioned research, research grants, and in-house research.

6. Ensure that all research is designed with impact-in-mind and, once complete, that it delivers on that impact through active and ongoing communication of the findings to the right audiences with the right messages through the right channels.

7. Lead the research function to be the central hub for the charity on the topic of alcohol harm and its solutions, staying on top of new research.

8. Influence the research spending of other agencies (e.g. NIHR) with a view to maximising funding into alcohol research in general.

Public Affairs

9. Lead and manage the charity’s public affairs activity, deploying the CEO, Research & Policy Officer and other staff as a team.

10.  Lead our work with external alliances, such as the Alcohol Health Alliance and the Alcohol and Families Alliance, and on the APPG on Alcohol Harm.

11.  Develop excellent relationships with Parliamentarians, civil servants, charities and other important institutional actors in our field.

12.  Build Campaigner journeys for our engagement audience to best mobilise them to help us with our influencing work.

13.  Lead on the commissioning and management of any external public affairs agencies, parliamentary monitoring services and similar suppliers.

14.  Ensure our policy positions are kept up-to-date, based on emerging evidence and contemporary thinking, and consistent with our principles.

15.  Work closely with the Director of Engagement and Fundraising to effectively mobilise and deploy our activists, Community Champions and other supporters so they (i) make a difference, (ii) become better informed over time, and (iii) remain motivated to campaign for our cause.

16.  Work closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications to influence all forms of media to better support our desired outcomes.

Team Leadership and Management

17.  Lead and manage the research and public affairs team(s), ensuring excellent line management.

18.  Lead the process of recruiting and inducting new team members, as appropriate.

19.  Proactively develop your own skills and experience as well as those of staff within your team.

Cross-organisational Role

20.  Act as a spokesperson for the charity at high profile events and across media, including radio and TV.

21.  Be an active and positive member of the charity’s Executive Team.

Streatham Youth and Community Trust (SYCT) is seeking an experienced Interim CEO to navigate the organisation through a critical period of transition. The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record in turnaround management within the charitable sector, capable of implementing strategic and operational changes to address systemic issues and rebuild organisational strength and sustainability, while stabilising the relationship with the wider community.

SYCT is currently facing significant financial and operational challenges. In this context, the board and the newly appointed CEO have had to make a number of difficult but necessary decisions. The recent closure of the charity-run nursery due to a combination of quality and financial viability concerns has resulted in a significant amount of noise. As a result, she has decided that she is not the right person to lead the turnaround efforts. She will stay in post until 28th June 2024 if needed, but is happy to step back after a brief handover as soon as a suitable Interim CEO can start in the role.

Top priorities for the Interim CEO will be leading the organisation through a period of restructuring, focusing on rebuilding core services, stakeholder relationships, processes and systems; and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, including health and safety standards and HR protocols.

• Role: Interim CEO at Streatham Youth and Community Trust
• Salary: c.£75,000 per annum, pro rata.

About the role

The Technical Expert works alongside Sightsavers’ DID-IE TO45 team to coordinate and support implementing partner organisations to successfully implement approved activities. The post-holder will liaise with partners to support effective planning and strengthen collaboration with district level educational officials, the department of social services and relevant authorities.

Advocating for disability inclusion and inclusive education with relevant authorities and on behalf of Sightsavers. The role will oversee financial and asset management of implementing partners, whilst reporting to the Country Director. The Technical Expert will work closely with the Deputy Director of Education and the Senior Global Technical lead of Education.

Responsibilities

Technical support to programme:

• Provides strategic and technical guidelines for the program, including comprehensive support around different technical training for a diverse group e.g. Master trainers, teachers, SMCs    

• Provides technical support in the selection of assistive devices, whilst considering appropriate measurements and distribution among children with disabilities   

• Provide technical support to the DID-IE consortium members and partners regarding inclusive education and the aspects related to education.   

• Provide technical support to conduct SLIP training ensuring highest quality at field level with teachers    

• Supporting consortium partners to successfully ensure quality service of the project   

• Maintaining strong working relationships with government level offices such as MOPME/DPE/NAPE/NCTB/DSS/URC  

• Develop strong collaborative, supportive, and mutually respectful relationships with diverse team members, consortium members and key stakeholders.    

• Ensure program activities are implemented on schedule, within budget, and coordinated to maximise efficiency and effectiveness

Project financial planning and execution (20%)

• Coordinate with the relevant internal and external finance teams on budget preparation, forecasting, advances, requisitions, adjustments, and financial documentation.   

• Monitoring partner activities implementation, budget spend, and analyse expenditure variances, equity and inclusion throughout program implementation

Project advocacy and communication (20%)

• Liaison and coordination with DC office, UNO office, District level Education Officials, Department of Social Services (DSS), Local Government Authorities (LGA).    

• As per the guidance of Sightsavers’ Advocacy and Communication Coordinator, support partner/s in the district to deliver advocacy activities and campaigns for the project.

Project monitoring and evaluation (10%)

• Ensure regular project performance monitoring of partners as per the guidance of Sightsavers’ country and global colleagues.   

• Contribute to monthly, quarterly report writing along with management of participant database to ensure the quality and consistency of the activities offered from the project.

As a member of Making The Leap’s senior management team, you will take responsibility for the organisation’s growth and outward facing initiatives. You will lead and manage the organisation’s portfolio of social mobility leadership strands, and develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders. TPP are recruiting an Executive Office Lead and Personal Assistant on behalf of our client, a non-profit organisation focused on promoting research and academia.

The Role:

As the Executive Office Lead and Personal Assistant, you will contribute to the management and coordination of the President, Officers, and Executive Director, ensuring the seamless delivery of administrative services within the organisation. You will also be responsible for managing a team of up to four other Personal Assistants providing direct administration and diary support to five Officers and the Executive Director.

Main responsibilities:

• Team Leadership: Lead and manage a team of personal assistants, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and ensuring the delivery of exceptional service.
• Executive Support: Provide proactive support to the President, managing diary commitments, correspondence, travel arrangements, and expenses.
• Strategic Oversight: Anticipate forthcoming issues and ensure the leadership team is well-briefed, coordinating with colleagues to maintain strong relationships and diplomatic communication.
• Correspondence Management: Oversee incoming correspondence, preparing responses for action or signature by senior leaders, and maintaining effective systems for tracking treatment and replies.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a primary point of contact within the organisation, maintaining its reputation and ensuring accessibility to internal and external stakeholders.
• Project Management: Manage and deliver ad-hoc cross-organisational projects as directed by the Executive Director.
• Secretariat Provision: Attend and take minutes of sensitive meetings, arrange meetings of the Advisory Board, and provide effective leadership and line management of the Executive Services team.

Requirements:

• Strong experience in line managing and motivating a team.
• Excellent spoken and written communication skills.
• Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially.
• Solid time management and organisational skills.
• Ability to build personal networks at all levels.
• Flexibility to respond quickly to urgent issues and develop new systems to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
• Experience in a senior Personal Assistant role combined with solid line management experience.
