Reporting to the Head of Programme Funding, you will work across the fundraising team, supporting programme set up and reporting, in line with key funding criteria and SOS Children’s Villages monitoring frameworks. You will work with colleagues in SOS Children’s Villages UK and internationally, building capacity in programme design, monitoring and reporting. This includes working with colleagues in multiple countries, collaborating on best practice MEAL work whilst being guided by local knowledge and expertise.

You will hold oversight of the portfolio of programmes being funded by SOS Children’s Villages UK, ensuring the UK based team have the tools, resources and processes to monitor programmes, in partnership with our international colleagues. You will manage reporting timelines, supporting your colleagues to ensure effective delivery of programme reporting, according to the needs of SOS Children’s Villages UK and external donors. You will provide hands on support for the monitoring, evaluation, learning and reporting of programmes, taking a lead role in the development of frameworks that will ensure effective capture of data enabling excellent reporting.

We are embarking on ambitious work around data analysis and research, and any experience you have in these fields will be highly valuable, and the appetite to explore them is essential.

You will be an active participant in networks, both globally and within the UK, contributing to our organisational knowledge on how to better monitor and analyse key areas such as gender and inclusivity within our programmes.

This is a home-based role, with regular travel within the UK as well as some international travel which you must be able to undertake.

We are looking for someone with comprehensive knowledge of MEAL systems and processes, and with at least four years of experience in a monitoring, evaluation and/or impact assessment role.

Working as part of the Yorkshire and the Humber team as part of a team of 20 colleagues you will combine hybrid working - either from home, our Leeds office adjacent to Leeds station, or project visits, to understand how and where amazing people and organisations are transforming neighbourhoods.

If you have previous experience for a funder, then that is great but it’s not a necessity. 

• You will need to be confident with comprehension and writing because you will be working with those applying for grants to advise and support them as necessary to develop proposals including project budgets. 
•  You’ll work with your colleagues to assess and recommend projects for funding. Some days you’ll be attending funders fairs, in person or online, whilst on others you may be meeting with Councils or other funders to share information about need and funding in a particular neighbourhood.
• You’ll also have responsibility for overseeing a portfolio of projects to ensure they are on track. If you have experience of the voluntary sector that would be ideal, particularly in South Yorkshire or West Yorkshire.
• Confident in writing, comprehension and with an understanding of budgets you will be passionate about supporting communities to build on their strengths to improve lives.

• Understanding of financial planning and business plans, ability to analyse accounts and numerical data.

As part of the Trusts and Institutional funding team of four you’ll work alongside the Head of Trusts and Institutional, Trusts Manager, Trusts Executive and the new Trusts and Institutional Funding Executive. The main task of the Institutional Funding Lead is to secure funding from UK-based institutional donors, with a primary focus on the FCDO.

You will drive forward dynamic and proactive engagement strategies directly with UK-based institutional donors and indirectly through consortia, as well as developing and supporting organisational positioning for contracts and grants.

This role will introduce innovative and agile funding approaches and models to enhance War Child UK’s competitiveness in a complex donor environment. You’ll achieve this by working closely with the War Child Alliance Foundation to research and analyse opportunities, enhance and support donor engagement plans, and drive forward engagement opportunities to maximise and secure funding.

About the role

• Develop and strengthen a network of contacts with relevant representatives from UK institutional donors and partners, primarily FCDO, institutional foundations and INGOs, to enable consortia to develop and grow.
• Identify funding needs within War Child and match them with institutional funding opportunities by engaging with country teams, the regional teams and the Alliance institutional funding coordination.
• Lead the co-creation, coordination, and design of complex and challenging proposals for institutional funding opportunities, including multi-country opportunities or large-scale consortium bids.
• Line manage the new Trusts and Institutional Funding Executive providing professional development and support.

About you

• Experience of co-creating, leading, and coordinating complex proposal development processes, ideally for relevant donors including FCDO and humanitarian pooled funds.
• Strong understanding of donor compliance, with an up-to-date knowledge of relevant donors including FCDO, and humanitarian pooled funds.
• Experience in building networks, partnerships, and consortia to maximise programme impact and funding opportunities.
• Line management or leadership experience.

About the role:

Kinship are seeking to recruit experienced event co-ordinators with a whole range of skills and great energy to join our brand-new training team. They will be responsible for delivering this first ever programme of its type supporting kinship carers across England in their caring role. 

As a pivotal part of the team, you’ll be supporting delivery of high-quality in-person and online training events across England. You’ll be the first point of contact for the team and be experienced and responsive in dealing with enquiries. You’ll be used to working with suppliers and have proven experience of planning, co-ordinating and supporting the delivery of large events. You’ll bring significant working experience of using Microsoft tools, and other platforms and technology including Zoom. Key responsibilities include:

The Humane Slaughter Association is a unique charity which promotes the welfare of farmed animals ‘Beyond the Farm Gate’; at markets, during transport, at slaughter, and when animals must be killed in emergencies.

Our vision is of a world where all farmed animals are transported and killed humanely and our mission is to research, advance and promote the use of humane methods for the transport, slaughter and killing of farmed animals.

We do this by offering practical advice, education, ad training to all those involved in transport, slaughter, or emergency killing of livestock animals, as well as by funding scientific research to develop more humane approaches. Although we are based in the UK, the charity is international and works worldwide.

Technical Officer – welfare assessment

The postholder for this role will become a key part of the HSA welfare assessment and training team. The team regularly undertakes welfare assessments of abattoirs, livestock markets and transport facilities to provide advice and training to ensure high standards of animal welfare. We also provide in-person training in humane slaughter and transport to those working in the industry, as well as regulators, other NGOs, staff from farm assurance schemes and others involved in the industry. Participating in agricultural shows and industry events, sharing our knowledge and advocating for humane slaughter and transport with key stakeholders are also central to our activities. HSA conferences are also an important way in which we disseminate the latest animal welfare information.

The postholder will work with the small expert team at the HSA, using their expertise to deliver welfare assessments and training, provide expert advice and organise our external activities.

Key Skills, Qualifications and Attributes

Essential

· A degree in agriculture, life science, veterinary medicine (or a related field) or equivalent professional experience.

· An understanding of the basic principles of animal welfare at slaughter.

· Comfortable working with and producing material which describes the slaughter process in detail.

· Comfortable working in abattoirs and livestock facilities.

· A diplomatic approach to dealing with controversial issues in animal welfare.

· Willingness to obtain a slaughter licence.

· A demonstrable ability to summarise complex information for a range of audiences with different levels of technical expertise.

· Excellent written and oral communication skills.

· Strong IT skills ideally including experience with MS Office and SharePoint.

· Ability to work to targets, with excellent organisational skills.

· Team player, but comfortable working alone when necessary.

· Willingness to travel extensively around the UK and further afield to undertake assessments or provide training.

· Expertise in animal welfare at slaughter and/or during transport (this expertise could have been gained though working with the livestock industry or as an educator, veterinarian, animal welfare researcher, regulator, or policymaker). 

· A postgraduate qualification, ideally in animal welfare or a related area.

· Experience of animal welfare assessment or audit.

· Understanding of the laws and regulations relating to the welfare of animals (in the UK and/or elsewhere) undergoing transport and slaughter.

· Expertise in the welfare of farmed or wild-caught aquatic animals.

· Experience of using social media including Twitter/X, LinkedIn and/or YouTube to deliver animal welfare or technical information.

· Experience of event organisation.

Personal Attributes

The candidate must be comfortable with the charity’s approach to animal welfare which includes co-operation with the livestock and slaughter industries. Whilst the HSA wishes to ensure the highest standards of welfare for animals farmed for food or other products, it does not oppose the slaughter of animals per se. Candidates must be comfortable working within the livestock industry and other key stakeholders whilst striving to ensure the humane treatment of animals undergoing transport or slaughter.

Payscale: £30,493 – 41,737 (depending on experience and qualifications) Plus London weighting, where applicable.

The Role 
 
As our Communications Officer, you will be responsible for planning and delivering a wide range of communications that contribute to increased brand awareness of the charity, demonstrate the charity’s expertise and impact, educate the public about cancer prevention, signs, symptoms and screening and support the generation of income for the charity. 

Specifically, you will: 

• Plan, research, create and distribute creative media content, including press releases, blog posts, case studies and videos, to support research, services, cancer insight, fundraising, events, retail, corporate partnerships and campaigns. 

• Proactively seek, identify and engage in media opportunities, such as attending events, organising photo opportunities and meeting face-to-face with case studies.

• Manage third-party suppliers such as photographers and film production agencies, obtaining quotes, providing clear briefings and ensuring work is delivered on time and within budget.

• Respond to press enquiries efficiently and to a high standard. Understand which media enquiries are appropriate for the charity’s brand and key messages and those which are not, so that the charity prioritises only those which are value-adding. 

• Organise TV, radio and press interview opportunities for the Chief Executive, Directors and Heads of. Prepare clear briefings for interviewees. 

• Demonstrate and convey professionalism at all times and represent the charity when communicating with the media, members of the public, volunteers and supporters to demonstrate the charity’s core values.

• Monitor and evaluate the charity’s media coverage and the digital impact of PR content, providing a monthly media clippings report. 

• Provide PR input to the charity’s Leadership Team, Board reports and performance dashboards. 

• Maintain continuous awareness of industry news and regularly update colleagues on key developments. 

 
About You 

To be considered for this role, you will need: 

• To be educated to a degree or equivalent level of education or have relevant experience in a similar role at a similar level. 

• Previous media experience, whether through journalism or a PR / in house media assistant role. 

• Experience in building relationships with colleagues and journalists and managing media opportunities such as interviews, broadcast opportunities and photocalls. 

• An ability to write compelling copy for multiple audiences, and media channels, often translating complicated information into a format that is easily understood by readers. 

• An agile media mind, able to spot the key storyline that will maximise the possibility of media coverage and attract the attention of the media. 

• An evaluative mindset, supporting continual improvement by analysing coverage and associated data from media activity. 

• An ability to keep a calm head when faced with a reactive media situation in a manner that best protects the reputation of the charity 

• A thoughtful and empathetic outlook, able to engage with people affected by cancer with sensitivity and respect.

Compliance Officer

We’re looking for a dynamic and a highly motivated individual to join a new role in our Compliance and Data Protection team.

The Role

Reporting to the Compliance Lead, the Compliance Officer will drive the development of an improved Compliance culture throughout the charity whilst ensuring that we adhere to all relevant regulations and laws.

Key responsibilities will include:

· Acting as a knowledge expert on compliance and promoting a culture of compliance within the charity in relation to data protection, fundraising and the provision of support services, by the provision of advice, guidance, internal communications and training.

· Assist in the development of new training materials and communications relating to Data Protection and Compliance including overseeing the relevant intranet pages.

· Help to review existing processes and policies and assist in the updating/development of these, along with tracking changes in the external environment that may have an impact on these policies and procedures.

· Overseeing, managing and responding to queries from the departments different inboxes including those for Data Protection, individual data rights requests and data breaches.

· Project managing a number of key actions from an external review of the organisation’s Data Protection practices.

· Assist the Compliance Lead and Associate Director of Legal and Governance in producing ad hoc and annual compliance reports along with any annual submissions to regulators, 3rd parties or external bodies.

You will have experience in, or be able to demonstrate:

· Knowledge of Data Protection and willingness to learn in other areas of compliance

· Experience of working in charities, not-for profit or healthcare sector

· Experience of senior stakeholder management and confidence in communicating with senior stakeholders
