Role Requirements

• Your main objectives is to support the board and senior leadership team in ensuring the charity continues to deliver high-quality, safe, effective and financially sustainable services for vulnerable children now and in the longer-term;
• Under the guidance of the Head of Risk, Audit & Governance, and in collaboration with key stakeholders across the organisation, coordinate and manage the implementation and ongoing development of the charity’s risk management framework; risk policies, risk appetite statement; “risk universe” and board assurance framework / assurance map;
• Undertake deep dive risk assessments and provide assurance over the effectiveness of internal controls from time to time as required by Audit & Risk Committee;
• Undertake a quarterly review of key financial controls and report findings to the Finance, Finance, Investments & Resources Committee and Audit & Risk Committee;
• Monitor and report on the implementation of agreed management actions designed to strengthen risk mitigation strategies / close compliance gaps and provide assurance on these to SLT and trustees.
• Prepare the risk update for SLT, the board and each of its committees including risk heat maps and key risk indicators for the charity’s principal risks.
• Establish effective working relationships with other second line risk, quality and compliance functions and periodically monitor the effectiveness of their activities.
• Liaise with SLT directors to ensure departmental risk registers are in place and appropriately maintained.
• Facilitate risk workshops and provide online training on TCT’s risk management policy and procedures. Meet regularly with risk owners to review risk responses and progress with actions.  Ensure there is an effective process of escalation of significant risks to SLT and trustees;
• Prepare an annual review of the effectiveness of internal control and risk management for the Audit & Risk Committee;

Set up by Southwark Council, the Homes for Ukraine project supports families and individuals from Ukraine who have been granted visas to live and work in the UK. After an initial period living with host families or in temporary accommodation, the project helps households take the next step towards independence by supporting them to move into private rented accommodation, assisting them in finding employment, and linking them with wider community support networks, while working holistically to ensure their individual needs are met. Antenatal Results and Choices (ARC) are a UK-wide charity offering impartial information and specialist support to parents undergoing antenatal testing. ARC also partners with healthcare professionals to promote high-quality, equitable care. 

We are recruiting an ARC Project Coordinator, who will lead a project aimed at improving pregnancy aspirations and readiness in communities, particularly those less likely to engage with maternity services. The project will focus on healthy conversations, accessible and accurate information, and equitable access to interventions, helping reduce inequalities and support informed pregnancy choices. 

The coordinator will also be responsible for recruiting, training, and supervising a small team of volunteers who will help deliver some parts of the project.

Croydon BME Forum, in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support, is tackling ethnic inequalities in health and social care through this “Can You C Me Project”. The Macmillan Team offers personalised support, information, and referrals for individuals affected by cancer, including families and carers, across six South West London boroughs: Croydon, Merton, Kingston, Wandsworth, and Richmond. Working within a team of three, you will be responsible for two boroughs, Croydon and Merton while supporting colleagues as needed.

As a Project Coordinator for the Can You C Me project, you will play a key role in engaging BME communities to enhance cancer awareness and support. Reporting to the Programme Manager, you will lead outreach initiatives, community engagement, and the organisation of project activities across Southwest London. Each coordinator is assigned a specific set of boroughs, collaborating closely with community organisations, faith groups, healthcare providers, and individuals affected by cancer.

Key Responsibilities

· Engage and build relationships with local communities, faith groups, and voluntary organisations to raise cancer awareness and improve support networks.

· Organise and deliver cancer awareness events, workshops, and outreach sessions tailored to community needs.

· Facilitate steering groups with professionals and individuals with lived experience to shape service delivery.

✨Use the charity’s CRM to manage relationships and record key information.

✨  Develop a strategy and programme for identifying and securing the support of new businesses and potential major donors.

✨  Implement the strategy by proactively identifying, approaching and securing new corporate relationships in line with the Charity’s corporate and philanthropy strategy.

✨Create and deliver compelling proposals and pitches to prospective new corporate and major donor supporters.

✨Manage the pipeline through the charity’s CRM and record/update key information as required.

✨  Work to continue the development of a strong, person-centred, empathetic, supportive and inclusive culture at Cerebra.

✨  Build on excellent relationships between different teams and directorates for each other’s and Cerebra’s overall strategic goals and objectives.

✨  Collaborate across departments to align partner activity with service delivery and communications.

✨  Contribute to strategic, organisational and cultural development.

✨  Champion innovation, growth mindset and learning from failure.

✨  Working with the team and Director to set income and expenditure budgets for Corporate, Philanthropy, Legacy and Trust & Foundations.

✨  Monitoring and reporting on income and expenditure and KPIs throughout the year.

✨ Providing quarterly income and expenditure re-forecasts.

✨ Ensuring all relevant information is recorded in line with charity, fundraising and data legislation and best practice.

✨Provide effective, remote line management, support and performance management to direct reports to help them maximise their potential and effectiveness.

✨Provide practical and person coaching support to the Legacy and Trusts & Foundations fundraisers.

✨ Ensure there is a continual culture and focus on learning and development and wellbeing.

You bring:

1st Place is a local success story. Born out of the vision from parents and children in 2005, we are now the recognised voluntary sector provider of early years and Best Start Family Hub services in Southwark.

We are first and foremost a hub of support for families with young children, from birth to rising five years and beyond which enables both children and parents to thrive. This includes health, parenting, as well as early years education through open access services and our highly regarded day nurseries. 

The challenges facing the families and communities we serve are ever present. We live in economically difficult times, which impacts the greatest on people who are already disadvantaged.

We seek a new Director who can take us forward to achieve even more and expand our geographical reach within the borough. This will be done only through vision and by partnering with other local providers of complementary services, commissioners and other potential funders of who there are many and as yet untapped.

You will bring the inspiring leadership, strategic foresight, and operational oversight that ensures that 1st Place continues to be “the place where children and families come first, the place where caring for the environment is second nature” and that we continue to be the go-to choice provider for partners, commissioners and funders.

1st Place is now a complex operation with many moving parts. You will need to be both strategic and outward facing as well as be ‘hands on’ in interacting with the children and families we work with and provide the visible leadership to staff and volunteers to enable them to continue to excel in OFSTED inspection, contract reviews and charity regulation.
