Ataxia UK is looking for a skilled and dedicated Specialist Ataxia Nurse for our new community-based nursing service, focused on supporting individuals with ataxia in the South West of England. The role is a significant development in expanding access to expert and joined-up ataxia care for the ataxia community, particularly in regions currently underserved by neurologists with expertise in the ataxias.
As a Specialist Ataxia Nurse, you will provide personalised, face-to-face, and remote support to patients, assisting them in navigating the NHS and social care systems. Your responsibilities will include supporting patients during medical appointments, coordinating essential therapies such as physiotherapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy, and building strong relationships with healthcare professionals to enhance understanding and treatment of ataxia. Additionally, you will contribute to the development of resources and information for the ataxia community.
We are looking for an experienced nurse with a background in neurology or chronic disease management and a strong commitment to patient advocacy. The ideal candidate will be a clear communicator, capable of working independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams. The Community Engagement Practitioner will be an essential contact and facilitator for existing scheme members. The post holder will provide consistency and enthusiasm across all activities while ensuring all practices are underpinned by co-creation, delivery and future development of the scheme by the members of Connect. This is an exciting opportunity to be alongside our members and to provide day-to-day practical support, signposting, and safe spaces for membership interaction. Whilst being homebased, the Community Engagement Practitioner will be required to work flexibly including regular evening working and occasional weekends as well as travelling for team meetings, member events, training and other in person events.

This is a mobile role which requires flexibility; you and a Teaching Assistant will work from a designated space in the family home, or at a local library, and offer personalised education for each student. MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Supporting the area Field Organiser, in their work with groups of local people in and around small towns across the county in which they are based, this role will both organise and mobilise members of the public to take actions supportive of overseas aid and international development, including the climate crisis. As part of a team, you will help build an active local community presence to support the Campaigns aims in key locations across England. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, excellent organisation, logistical and administrative skills, with a strong commitment to the aims of the Campaign.
