About the role

Location: South East London, a short walk from Peckham Rye station (with some flexible working)
Salary: £26,000 – £30,000 per annum, depending on experience
Contract: Temporary (strong possibility of a temporary to permanent transfer)
Hours: 35 hours per week

You’ll be the go-to person for all things finance, working closely with the Director of Finance and Operations. From processing day-to-day transactions to supporting annual audits, you’ll ensure their financial systems run smoothly and in line with best practice for charities. Your role will involve:

• Processing accounts payable and receivable with accuracy and timeliness.
• Preparing monthly management accounts and variance analysis.
• Managing staff expenses and ensuring policy compliance.
• Assisting with budgets, forecasts, VAT returns, Gift Aid claims and payroll.
• Reconciling bank accounts and ensuring financial records are audit-ready.
• Tracking restricted and unrestricted funding streams to meet donor reporting requirements.

About you
You’ll bring at least two years’ experience in a financial role (ideally within a charity) and a working knowledge of VAT, Gift Aid and managing diverse funding streams. You’ll have:

• Great attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
• Confidence with Excel and ideally Xero.
• A knack for explaining financial matters clearly to non-finance colleagues.
• A proactive, problem-solving mindset and a collaborative approach.

An AAT qualification (or equivalent) would be great, but what really matters is your ability to keep the finances watertight while sharing their passion for the mission.

JOB PURPOSE

The Director is involved in every aspect of the running of INSPIRE, which includes raising funding from a variety of sources, formulating a winning strategy to grow INSPIRE, husbanding resources in the most effective and efficient manner and leading a small staff in their support roles.

SCOPE OF THE JOB

As Director, you will have a large amount of freedom to drive change, grow the charity, set the strategic vision going forwards and use your talents and leadership to ensure INSPIRE thrives. You are to ensure the charity has sufficient funds to cover all routine day-to-day expenses, to pay invoices quarterly for current projects and to plan for taking on medical research projects which are vetted by the National Science Committee (NSC) and agreed by the Board of Trustees. You should be qualified to degree level, ideally with an MBA or an equivalent business qualification. INSPIRE is based in offices at Salisbury Hospital, Wiltshire and you will have a small, dynamic team to help and advise you as you settle into the role.

This is a pivotal moment for FAST as the need for our work has expanded due to more young people falling into poverty and struggling in schools. Whilst capacity is a challenge with 60% cut in public youth programmes over the last decade (YMCA 2020). We are still growing strong and are able to work with 300 young people annually. However, our desire is to continue this work of establishing and growing a healthy youth organisation that provides excellent & vibrant youth work that makes a difference to young people’s lives and produces healthy staff that are equipped and empowered to do the job they love. Therefore, the need to grow our team is quite pressing. We are in search for someone with experience leading youth work and developing a healthy organisation who can help strengthen our work here in very significant ways, with a particular gifting in thinking strategically and working hard to get results.

Key Responsibilites:

Routine Financial Oversight

· Oversee all accounting, cash management, reconciliations and authorisation of payments.

· Monitor day-to-day financial operations: banking transactions, current and deposit accounts, payroll, and other transactions.

Role description:

We are seeking a technically excellent management accountant to play a central role in the finance team at this young and vibrant charity, preparing monthly management information to aid business decisions, and undertaking project work as requested.

Main Responsibilities:

Management Accounts preparation

• Account for accrued income and expenditure, including:

           - Accrued legacy income

           - Accrued trust income

          - Other accrued income

          - Accrued grant expenditure

          - Normal accruals and prepayments

• Reconcile all control accounts regularly
• Prepare and post journals as required
• Prepare monthly management accounts, including restricted and unrestricted reserves

Record keeping

• Contribute to the proper maintenance of book keeping records where necessary, to comply with statutory, financial and GDPR regulations
• Assist in gathering documentation for audit, ensuring necessary information is organised and available
• Assist in year-end statutory accounts preparation
• Ensure that all relevant finance processes and systems are adhered to

Other

• Liaise with fundraising team to assist in reconciliation of finance software to fundraising CRM software
• Produce ad-hoc reports as required
• Complete government and other surveys as required
• Represent the Charity in all dealings with internal and external stakeholders in a professional and efficient manner.

Person Specification:

Knowledge and experience

• Qualified or part-qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA

You will play a pivotal role in growing income across the Hospice and leading new, relationship-based approaches to fundraising.

With responsibility for Major Donors, Trusts and Foundations, and Regular and Mid-Value Giving you will create and lead a new strategy to develop these areas and manage and grow a portfolio of high-value relationships.

You will also work hand in hand with Hospice colleagues to identify and curate exciting fundraising propositions, helping to raise strategic funds for our services.

As a leader in the fundraising team, you will provide coaching and management to your team and deputise for the Director Fundraising.

• Fundraising Success: At least six years’ experience operating in a Major Gifts or Trusts and Foundations role and a track record of personally securing and stewarding five and six figure gifts
• Strategic thinker: Experience of researching, developing and implementing new strategies, and associated budgets and KPIs, and of developing portfolios, and prospect management tools
• Leading and inspiring: At least four years’ experience of inspiring, managing and developing 1+ line reports
• Proposition development: Creative in outlook and with experience of developing donor-centric fundraising propositions

About the role:
