The Biochemical Society and its wholly owned publishing subsidiary Portland Press Ltd (PPL) are seeking an experienced and influential leader to join us as our new Chief Executive, from January 2025 on the retirement of the current postholder Kate Baillie. We’re looking for an experienced Chief Operating Officer, to help us develop and implement business and
operational plans, review and develop policies that reflect our values and the needs of a diverse staff team,
and oversee HR, data governance and other key functions.

The COO role will be a key member of the senior management team, working closely with (and reporting
directly to) the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and the Senior Management Team.

Overview

The National Paralympic Heritage Trust (NPHT) has embarked on a new exciting five-year strategy – ‘Becoming Seamlessly Inclusive 2023-2028’. To help us on this journey, this is an exciting opportunity to join our team as the Trust’s Company Administrator, a key role within our organisation. You will be able to think on your feet and be confident to work autonomously. 

The NPHT is a young dynamic and diverse organisation, and a leader in accessible heritage. Over our first five years we have engaged with over half a million people with the ambition to reach a million over the next five years, with support from several major heritage funders including the Arts Council England (as an NPO), National Lottery Heritage Fund, Rothschild Foundation, Museums Association Esmee Fairbairn, Wolfson Foundation, Art Fund and Garfield Weston.

Role of the Company Administrator

The Administrator will be responsible for the key administration functions of the Trust; planning, directing, managing, and coordinating all operational functions including the office management, day to day finance records, events support and site maintenance.

1. Overall

1.1 To be part of the inspiring work of the National Paralympic Heritage Trust, supporting the wider team and often being the first line of contact to visitors and partners in person, online and via telephone.

1.2 Manage the provision of office services including the management of day to day finance and payments, staff rotas, stationary orders, supporting events and bookings and ensuring the smooth running of the office.

1.3 Organising the day-to-day maintenance of the Heritage Centre and the displays at the National Spinal Injuries Centre.

Main Duties

1.4 The management of office systems, operating practices, record keeping, policies and budget monitoring systems including supporting returns to funders, monthly invoicing records and payments.

1.5 Administration of training, Heritage Centre bookings, events and meetings, including organising catering when relevant.

1.6 Management of general correspondence, answering phone calls, managing the admin mailbox and processing post.

1.7 Oversight and coordination of environmental action plans.

1.8 Drafting, formatting, and printing of relevant documents for meetings as required.

1.9 Maintaining stock lists and ordering of office supplies as needed.

1.10 Coordinate agendas and take meeting notes for the Board of Trustees and the Finance and Development Committee.

1.11 Management of purchase orders and invoicing.

1.12 Photocopying and filing of appropriate documents as needed.

1.13 Maintaining databases, and the google drive.

1.14 Support processing of DBS checks for staff and volunteers as directed by the wider team.

1.15 Other

· To support communications, digital content and evaluation consultants.

· To support the commercial programme of work.

· Other project work as arises.

· To assist work placement trainees in areas where they require admin support.

2. Meetings and reporting

2.1 The Administrator will be employed by the National Paralympic Heritage Trust and be responsible to the Board of Trustees.

2.2 The Administrator will report to and be supported by the Head of Programmes.

2.3 The Administrator will have monthly meetings with the Head of Programmes, reporting on progress and raising any areas of concern.

3. Period of Contract

3.1 Permanent.

4. Contract fee/Pay

4.1 The proposed fee is £25,000 a year Pro rata 3 days a week (24 hours).

4.2 In addition to the payment outlined above the Administrator will be paid reasonable agreed expenses incurred subject to the supply of receipts/travel expense claim and a stakeholder pension.

5. Indemnity

Insurance is covered by the NPHT.

We're looking for a Senior Project Officer, to work in our Innovation and Practice team and support exemplary, agile project management across Involve. 

This is an exciting time to join the Involve team. Alongside increasing public and political interest in our approaches, we are increasing the size and impact of our project work. We have a couple of new multifaceted projects which need really effective and agile project management. As a Senior Project Officer you will contribute to all aspects of our delivery, with a particular focus on project and programme management of larger projects. Your main focus will be on:

• Project management and delivery - core project management and logistics, running onboarding for participants, event management, analysis and reporting, and facilitation

• Building our project management approach further - supporting Involve to build our project management capacity and resources that are appropriate for our creative, inclusive processes and culture

• Project and programme design - working with project teams to design entire projects and processes which use deliberative, qualitative and participatory methods

• Project impact - recording and monitoring how our projects work, the kinds of impacts they have, and the ways they contribute to Involve’s mission. 

This Senior Project Officer role sits in our Innovation and Practice Function. Our team’s daily work includes setting up, managing, designing, delivering and reporting on a wide range of participatory and deliberative processes, ranging from small scale, hyper-local community engagements to large, national, multi-event Citizens’ Assemblies and longer term projects. Our processes can be face to face, hybrid, or online, and often involve bringing together different groups from within the public with interested parties and experts from across government, business , academia and civil society.

In addition, you would work closely with our Capacity Building and Standards team to support their work helping others to deliver these approaches and contribute to our communications and advocacy work. You will also support fundraising for grants and projects, responding to tenders and writing proposals and building relationships with our funders, collaborators and clients. 

We are looking for an excellent project manager, able to manage fairly large projects and task manage others at all levels to ensure smooth delivery. You will be great at managing relationships at all levels and working with others to get things done. Given the nature of our work we are also looking for public participation skills, or relevant or transferable expertise and an understanding of deliberative practice. That will enable you to design and deliver project management, and support facilitation that fits our work and enables you to contribute to advising our clients on designing and delivering effective engagement. It is critical that you are open to new ideas, a good team player, committed to shifting power and addressing inequities in our society and that you are passionate about furthering our vision. Experience of building project management capacity, fundraising and staff management is desirable. 

Salary band: £38,975 - £43,584

Location: Flexible. Must be comfortable with committing to regular travel both for project work and Involve team activities. Must be able to travel across the UK.

Hours: Full time preferred, 35 hours per week, with flexible or part time considered.

• Manage, monitor and report on the bilingual web pages and Facebook page for Wales

• Maximise coverage for campaigns and fundraising communications in Wales, and produce creative content, including video

• Research and ‘sell’ stories to maximise coverage, involving people affected by Parkinson’s

• Provide Welsh language media interviews

• Conduct media and social media training for staff and volunteers and produce media briefings to support interviews

The Ian Karten Charitable Trust is looking for a home-based, self-employed administrator to cover the current incumbent who is going on maternity leave in July 2024.  The Trust is a grant making trust focused on disability and education.

The role is very flexible; hours required are generally between 8 and 16 per month. With the exception of two trustee meetings annually, which usually take place at mutually agreed times during office hours, most of the work can be carried out according to the postholder’s individual commitments and availability.

The administrator will report to the Chair of Trustees, and will be responsible for ensuring that the administrative processes necessary for the running of the Trust are smooth and efficient. This will include monitoring emails and communicating with grantees, processing payments, preparing and distributing papers for trustee meetings, taking minutes at trustee meetings and following up on agreed actions, and ensuring any necessary documentation is kept up to date. We have a very exciting opportunity for anyone who enjoys working on the front-line of patient support in the Wirral and Liverpool area. 

This role will deliver Kidney Care UK’s Patient Support and Advocacy service in Liverpool and the Wirral region. This varied role deals with every aspect of a patient’s life that supports better outcomes: welfare benefits, practical, emotional and social support. As well as directly supporting patients, you will raise awareness of the wide range of local and national resources available to kidney patients, and build strong relationships with kidney patients, professionals, and other stakeholder groups in the region. 

Based at home (laptop and mobile phone provided), you will be expected to travel independently across Liverpool and the Wirral area and manage your own caseload with the support of your line manager and other members of our national friendly, committed team.

We’ll provide the training, you’ll bring enthusiasm and your experience of working with chronically ill patients in a social, care or health role.

The role is a two-year contract initially. We can consider applications for a split role or job share, please indicate the hours you are seeking. Applications from those with experience of living with CKD in a personal or professional capacity are particularly welcome.
